Atin’la leaned back ever so slightly and crossed her arms over her chest. She’d wanted to be a tease, and she figured she’d get a rise out of Alexander, but this wasn’t quite the reaction she was hoping for. And in her opinion, this look was pretty tame. “Honestly, Alexander, I can’t have a Kit Kat bar? Is it because I’m too old? That’s all I wanted, some actual sugar…I guess I understand, though, from your perspective. Beer’s still on me later if you want one when your shift here is done.
The brunette’s hand lingered above the candy bowl, almost daring him to stop her. The candy that she wanted was within reach, but if she grabbed for it, Atin’la was certain she’d be dealing with an unhappy Alex later and even more disapproving stares from parents, and her day had already been long enough at this point.
“Atin’la,” Alex spoke once more, his tone warning. He could already see the people around them starting to stare. Some were whispering too. He looked up at her, his gaze pleading. Of course he cared about her, but he didn’t want to have everyone in town thinking something was going on between them... Even though it was.
As her hand hovered over the bowl, he bit his lip and turned his head a little. “Go ahead and take a piece... Then I think you have to keep your distance for the rest of the night.” He lowered his voice again. “I’ll see you at home?”
