You had employed the services of the man to help you locate your father’s will. He’d been recommended by a friend who had used him for a similar reason. When you had first arrived at his establishment - you weren’t sure you could call it an office as such - you had not been entirely impressed. He looked like he hadn’t slept in days, his clothes rumpled, his hair mussed up, at least three days growth of stubble peppering his chin. He walked, limped, over to you and shook your hand.
‘Thank you for seeing me, Mr Bannister,’ you said, and introduced yourself.
He explained what the process was, showed you all the equipment, introduced you to his assistant, Watts, and asked if you were ready to start. You were. As you lay in the water, warm and comforting around you, he started to speak.
‘All you have to do is follow my voice.’
His voice. His voice was low, rough, but soothing. You guessed that was one of the reasons why he did what he did. It did help you on your journey and it helped you to locate the will. After all the legal matters to do with your father’s estate were tied up, you paid his bill and gave him a healthy gratuity on top. You could afford it now, of course. And that was that. You have no more reason for his services or to seek the man out and yet one afternoon you found yourself doing exactly that. You’d been walking aimlessly around the city, one of the idle rich now, with no job to tie you down, and found yourself outside his building. His voice still moved through your head from time to time. On impulse you pushed the door and went inside. You had no idea what you would find, what you would be interrupting, to assume he didn’t have a client there was rude. He was, you had discovered, a busy man. People wanted the comfort of their pasts, if only temporarily.
As it was you found him alone, sitting in a chair, feet on the desk, writing in a small book. He looked up at the sound of your feet.
‘Sorry to interrupt,’ you said, smiling and raising an apologetic hand.
He stood and walked over to you.
‘I have a rare free afternoon, you aren’t interrupting anything,’ he said.
You nodded.
‘That’s nice. Um...’
‘Anything I can help you with?’ he asked.
‘Not really, I was just passing by and felt compelled to come inside. Now I’m here I feel a little foolish,’ you admitted.
He smiled, small, lightly crooked. He still hadn’t ironed his clothes, or shaved or combed his hair. All of which you found oddly comforting and even more oddly attractive.
‘I’m sorry,’ you said and turned to leave.
‘How about a drink?’
You stopped and turned back to him.
‘What?’
‘Would you like to go for a drink? You came all this way after all.’
And so you and Nick found yourselves tucked into a gloomy booth at an equally gloomy bar. You chattered away to him, not realising that you were entirely monopolising the conversation. When you did, you apologised. He just chuckled.
‘No need to apologise. I like hearing you talk. I spend all day talking, it’s nice to listen for a change,’ he smiled.
You supposed that made sense.
‘Do you enjoy what you do?’ you asked.
‘I do. I like to help people.’
‘How does it feel, seeing other people’s memories?’
He shrugged.
‘Like I’m intruding sometimes, but if they didn’t want me to see them they wouldn’t come to me.’
You supposed that was a fair assessment.
‘What about your memories?’ you asked.
‘What about them?’
‘Are there any that you want to relive?’
Nick looked down at his glass, swirling the amber liquid inside it. It took him a long while to answer.
‘Some, but not anymore. As ironic as it sounds, some things are best left in the past.’
He downed the rest of his drink and asked if you wanted another, signalling this conversation was over.
You and Nick began to see each other regularly, just for drinks, just friends. He never made any attempt to make a pass at you and neither did you towards him. Did you even feel that way about him? You weren’t sure. He was good company, handsome, but he was guarded. He would not qualm about changing the subject if you started getting too personal. It wasn’t deliberate, you were just interested in him, this new friend. He knew almost everything there was to know about you and things felt a little one sided. Even so, you decided that you should stop pushing and prying and just let him open up to you in his own time. Time was one thing you had plenty of after all. That and money.
One such evening, you were both watching a singer on stage at a club. She was just going through the motions, singing a dirge to a room full of people who barely even registered her existence. Nick seemed unable to take his eyes off her. You felt a small pang of, what, jealousy? A ridiculous notion. Despite that you couldn’t help but poke the bear.
‘Do you know her?’ you asked.
He seemed shocked that you had spoken to him.
‘Um, no. No, I don’t know her. She just reminds me of someone.’
‘Oh,’ you said, looking at the woman on the stage, ‘an ex lover?’
Nick was looking at the singer again.
‘Yeah,’ he said, without really thinking.
‘What was her name?’ you asked.
He didn’t reply and shifted his gaze away from the singer and back to you.
‘Doesn’t matter,’ he said, his tone making you very aware that this was not a conversation he wished to continue. In fact, that seemed to be the end of the conversation for the evening. You sighed and after another half an hour of silence, you picked up your bag and walked out of the club. You didn’t bother contacting Nick for a few days. You were starting to wonder if it was even worth continuing with a friendship that was so one sided.
It was a few days later when your phone rang. You were at home, quietly reading, when it went off. You looked at the screen. Nick. You answered it, ready to hear some pointless excuse.
‘I wanted to apologise,’ he said.
‘Oh.’
This was not what you were expecting.
‘I’ve been…I’ve not been a good friend to you.’
As he spoke you started to get a hint of a slur in his words. He sounded, likely was, drunk. You sighed and let him talk. Clearly a drunk Nick was an honest Nick. He told you all about Mae, about their relationship, how it ended, how it affected him. You felt sorry for him, of course you did. It also made you cautious about taking your relationship with him any further. It was clear to you the man was damaged – wasn’t everyone to some degree – fighting in the wars, his work taking him into so many people’s memories and his own, haunting him. You didn’t want much out of life, didn’t need much, but peace was something you valued. You weren’t sure Nick could give you that. By the end of the phone call you’d decided that you would start to let him down gently, leave him be to his memories.
At least that was the plan. When you saw him next, he seemed like a man reborn. You wouldn’t call him happy as such but he seemed more energised, like finally talking about his past had freed him from a burden. He showed up at your house with flowers, a wide smile and the desire to make it all up to you. One last chance you decided.
One chance turned into two which turned into three and you found yourself back into your regular habit of meeting up. Things were different though. As he escorted you home one evening, Nick leant forward and kissed you, just softly with the scratch of his stubble against your chin. It was almost chaste but it made a spark shoot through you, one that you were not expecting. He smiled softly at you as he stepped back. You smiled at him and turned to walk into the house. As you did so, you felt compelled to look back at him. He was just standing there, watching you. Not something he had done before either. You were confused but also intrigued as to where he thought this was all heading.
About a week later, you asked Nick if he wanted to accompany you to an event. A charity fundraiser, black tie. When you glanced at him, he looked like he would rather stick rusty nails into his eyes than attend such a thing. Yet he said yes.
‘Do you have a tuxedo?’ you asked, smiling a little.
‘Yes, I do,’ he replied, taking you by surprise a little, ‘haven’t worn it for a while though.’
You handed him a card.
‘Try it on and if it still fits take it here, they’ll clean it for you.’
He took the card and nodded. You were still a little bemused by his reaction.
‘I wouldn’t have thought it would be the sort of thing you’d like,’ you said, voicing your thought.
Nick merely shrugged.
‘I’m always open to new experiences,’ he said, ‘and, you know, could be a good place to do a little networking.’
You rolled your eyes and laughed.
‘Of course.’
He looked at you.
‘Won’t that be what everyone else is doing?’ he asked and you couldn’t deny it.
When the evening of the event rolled around, you were not expecting Nick to show up in a beautiful vintage Jaguar.
‘Where on earth did you find this?’ you asked.
‘Pulled a few strings. I know someone who knows someone…you know how it goes,’ he said with a small smile.
He opened the door and you slid in. You weren’t unaware of the way he was looking at you. Your dress was long, sleek, fitted to every curve, giving everything away while showing off nothing, aside from the long slit that allowed your leg to peep out from time to time. You couldn’t deny that he looked very handsome in the tux, which while a little tight across the shoulders, fitted him well. You were pleased, though you couldn’t exactly pinpoint why, to note that he hadn’t shaved, that the permanent dusting of stubble he sported was still there. It added a roguish edge to his outfit.
Nick drove to the venue, one of the few high class hotels still operating. As he helped you out of the car and handed his car key to the valet he scanned the building.
‘What are you looking for?’ you asked.
‘Just looking,’ he said, ‘don’t see many buildings like this anymore.’
Inside it was opulent, gilded, rich. The irony that this event was raising money for the less fortunate was not lost on you. Just one of the guests here could have written a check and provided any number of families with a safe home and food without breaking a sweat. You looked at Nick as you walked arm in arm through the rooms, your heels clicking on the marble floor.
‘It’s beautiful, isn’t it?’ You said.
‘Very,’ he replied, still looking around. Then his gaze fell on you, ‘not as beautiful as my company for the evening though.’
He smiled. He rarely smiled but when he did it was dazzling. You caught your breath and had to force yourself to look away.
‘Mr Bannister, you flatter me,’ you said, hoping that in the low light your blushing was not noticeable.
‘It’s true,’ he said, still smiling.
You were about to say something else when a friend approached, giving you polite air kisses and looking pointedly at your date. You introduced Nick and you both found yourselves the centre of attention for a while. You could see a number of business cards being pressed into Nick’s hands, while he handed out many of his own. He was right, it was a good chance to network. That many of these people would simply come along for the novelty of it all didn’t seem to bother him. At the end of the day, they were paying him and he was profiting. He’d be their little sideshow attraction for a time if necessary.
Breaking away from the crowd, you headed towards the sounds of music. A band were playing a large ballroom, many people dancing away either on their own or in groups.
‘It’s always fascinating to me how badly rich people dance,’ you said, ‘all the time and money in the world to learn how to do it properly and they all look like jerking marionettes.’
Nick gave a small laugh.
‘You won’t be joining them in that case?’
‘No,’ you said, cocking your head to one side and looking at him, ‘at least not in these heels. And not unless it’s a nice slow dance. Haven’t slow danced since I was back in high school.’
Nick laughed again.
‘Leaving room for the Holy spirit, I take it?’
‘Of course. I was a good girl,’ you smiled. Your tone indicating to your date that you were, in fact, anything but.
When Nick disappeared a while later you didn’t think anything of it. You were starting to feel weary, wondering if it was time to head home and get to bed. When you saw Nick weaving his way back through the crowd to you, you stood up, about to suggest that very thing, when he took your hand and started to lead you to the dancefloor.
‘Nick!’ you protested as you felt yourself being pulled against him.
‘I asked the band to play a nice slow one,’ he grinned.
You felt his hands on your waist and then felt him starting to move, just slowly, swaying from side to side. You grinned too and loosely wrapped your arms around his neck.
‘This is silly,’ you said.
‘No,’ he said, pulling you closer so that you could feel his breath on your neck, ‘this is nostalgia.’
The song felt like it lasted for days, the closeness of your body to Nick’s making your feel hot, your dress felt tight, you couldn’t breath, his breath still on your neck, your cheek, the faintest feeling of something against your hip as he pulled you closer to him. You felt your breasts against his chest and you felt your hand start to slip up into his hair. When he looked at you, his eyes sparkled under the coloured lights. He smiled, a little crooked, and you wanted nothing more in that moment than for him to kiss you. As you started to move your head, the music stopped and the dancing stopped as well. You stepped back and smiled at him.
‘Thank you for that,’ you breathed.
He simply nodded.
***
You could not even blame alcohol for what you did because you barely drank. No. This was all you. All what you wanted. It had started with the dance, then him holding your hand as you left the venue, then him draping his jacket over your shoulders, then Nick driving you home. Your feet ached and your face hurt from so much fake smiling. As well as divesting himself of his jacket, Nick had removed his bow tie and unbuttoned his shirt sleeves, rolling them. You watched him as he drove, the shift of his body, his muscles, beneath the material. You found yourself squirming in your seat a little. You tried to focus on the road ahead but your gaze kept going back to him, his profile, his arms. You chewed on your lip a little then decided.
As Nick pulled up and stopped outside your place, he went to get out of the car to open your door. You put a hand on his arm.
‘Don’t,’ you said
Nick looked at you.
‘What’s wro…’
He barely got the word out before you had skipped over from your seat to his and were kissing him. As best you could you straddled him, your crotch and his meeting. You ground yourself against him, feeling the first twitch of something happen. You felt his hands on your waist, not moving just holding you. He was responding to and returning your kisses, his tongue snaking its way into your mouth, making you groan. Then you felt his hands move and start to cup your backside. You also felt his erection growing. You started to grind on him harder, the feeling of his hard length against you through your layers of clothing making you want more.
‘We shouldn’t…’ he began but the rest of the sentence disappeared into a groan as you started to move on him faster. You could feel him starting to move his own hips, pushing himself up against you. You felt his hard cock against your clit and you just wanted to keep going, keep moving, keep humping him. You felt his hand on the back of your neck, then into your hair.
‘Are you going to come?’ you asked breathlessly.
Nick couldn’t speak but nodded. You felt his hands grab at your waist again, pulling you harder against him, then something wet, his strangled groan the only sound other than your own ragged breathing. It didn’t take long for you to come too, pressing yourself hard against him one last time.
You sat there for a while, your heart beating fast, the feel of this man beneath you, his hands caressing your back. You put your head on his shoulder.
‘You’ll have to have your pants cleaned again,’ you said and for some reason that was the funniest thing you’d heard all evening.
‘I guess I will,’ he said, slightly more serious, then, ‘why?’
‘Why what?’
‘Why did you want to do that?’
You sat back and looked at him.
‘Because I wanted to,’ you said simply.
You smiled at him and opened the car door. Stepping out you removed his jacket and placed it on the passenger’s seat. You walked off towards the house, not knowing if you wanted Nick to follow you or not. A brief glance back and you could see that he was out of the car, standing beside it just watching you walk away, a somewhat dumbstruck expression on his face. You smiled a little to yourself as you heard the sound of two car doors slamming closed and the sound of heavy footsteps coming up behind you. As you reached your door, searching in your bag for the key, you smiled again at the feel of a large warm hand on your back.
Sooo this is my first Nick Bannister fic. I actually don't know if it's any good or not, but I think there will be a few parts to it. Hopefully you like it!

New York State, USA
16th August
The second your flight landed, you went straight home and slept off the jet lag. It felt so unusual to be back in your own bed after so many different hotels, though with Logan’s arm around you, it felt no different.
You were woken by the smell of coffee and a heavy weight on your bed. Logan sat on the side of your bed and took your hand. “Morning sunshine.”
“What time is it?” you asked.
“About 10:00.”
“I really hate jet lag,” you commented and sat up, taking the mug of coffee.
“Yeah, that’s why I let you sleep in. Twelve hours on a plane and a nine-hour time difference tends to knock you sideways. However, I started your laundry. It was easy since most of your clothes were light coloured.”
“Thanks, that’s one less thing to do.”
“And I ordered breakfast since you don’t have any food.”
“I love you.”
“However, we do need to go to Westchester this afternoon. Movie night.”
“That’s fine. It’ll get me moving. I do need to work on my notice letter, but that should not take long.”
You spent the morning sorting through your suitcase, separating the gifts for your family and everyone at the school. Logan put the bottle of Maker’s Mark in your alcohol cabinet, along with your limoncello, while you typed your notice letter and ate breakfast. By lunchtime, you were ready to leave.
“Wow, aren’t you both well-rested?” Ororo commented when you walked into the lounge.
“Yeah, you could say that,” you replied sheepishly. You handed a small bag from Amarni. “I got you the perfume you wanted.”
“Ah, brilliant. So, are you guys hungry at all?”
“I’m good. I just had breakfast. So what happened while we were gone?”
As Ororo and Jean debriefed you on the Mansion gossip, Jubilee arrived, anticipating her souvenir. Logan handed her the Vespa ornament.
“You did say surprise you,” Logan pointed out.
“I love it,” Jubilee said, attaching herself to his side. She took the ornament and went to show her friends.
“So, Logan, get anything special while you were away?” Morph asked.
Logan moved his head in a motion to indicate that they should move to a quieter room away from you. Kurt followed them to the hallway.
“Okay, I have bought something, but you need to keep it quiet, especially from [y/n],” Logan explained. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a velvet box.
“Is that…” Kurt began before Logan opened it, revealing a white gold, infinity twist, princess-cut sapphire ring.
“Wow, Logan, I would, but you're taken the last time I checked,” Morph said.
Logan ignored them. “I got it while we were in Milan.”
“We're paying you too much,” Morph added.
“It's beautiful,” Kurt commented. “So are you going to propose?”
“I did think about asking her in Venice, but it didn't seem like the right moment,” Logan explained. “I want this to be perfect.”
“Okay, are you sure about this? Not that I am talking you out of it, but are you ready?” Morph questioned.
Logan peeked through the kitchen door to see you helping one of the younger kids with their colouring. He smiled softly as he watched you smile and talk with the child.
“Never been more certain of anything in my life.”
The next fic won't be long; let's just say that poor Logan is fighting against fate.

When you were offered the use of a friend’s beach house for a weekend, you jumped at the chance. An opportunity for you and Logan to get away together, just the two of you. Spend all day lazing on the beach or wrapped up with each other in bed. When you mentioned it to Logan he couldn’t have said yes more quickly. It was going to be amazing. Some much needed R and R. Logan was so keen, you spoke to your friend and managed to get the house for a few more days, taking some time off work to make a long weekend of it. Four glorious days of just kicking back.
Then Wade saw you walking into the building with a suitcase. Logan didn’t have one so you’d borrowed one from your sister.
‘Going somewhere?’ he asked.
‘Oh. Um, yes I am,’ you smiled and kept walking to the elevator.
‘Where?’
‘Nowhere special,’ you said, still smiling, wishing the damn elevator would arrive sooner.
‘Don’t you have a suitcase?’
‘Yes…’
‘Why do you need another one?’
You shrugged and smiled and walked into the elevator. You tried to close the doors quickly but Wade squeezed himself through just in time.
‘You’re being mysterious,’ he said.
You laughed, a fake laugh if ever Wade heard one.
‘I’m not being mysterious at all! I just needed another suitcase.’
‘For some reason.’
‘Yes. For some reason.’
It wasn’t that you didn’t want Wade to know where you and Logan were going…no that wasn’t true, you absolutely didn’t want Wade to know where you and Logan were going. You just wanted to take Logan away, to quietly enjoy each other’s company and, maybe, make a start on that baby you’d been talking about.
***
A few days later as you were sorting through stuff to take with you, you realised you didn’t have any sunscreen left. Logan offered to go to the store to get some, which ended up with you giving him a list of other things he could get. He sighed and smiled and said he wouldn’t be long. Walking back into the building, he too was caught by Wade. You’d already told him about the third degree you’d gotten after he saw you with the suitcase, so he was prepared.
‘Fuck off,’ he said, slapping Wade’s hand away from the bag he was holding.
Wade continued to peer.
‘Sunscreen, insect repellent,’ he started to list off things he could, and could not, see, ‘after sun....no condoms...ooh...’ he looked up at Logan, ‘why aren’t you buying condoms anymore?’
Logan snarled.
‘Stop talking before I make you stop.
Logan could see Wade’s brain working overtime. He zipped past him, taking the stairs two at a time. He could hear Wade not too far behind him.
‘Now that I think about it, there hasn’t been any birth control pills in your bathroom cabinet for a while. Why?’
‘None of your business!’ Logan said from several stairs ahead of him and giving himself a mental reminder to put a lock on the cabinet.
‘Well, I mean, I can guess why....’
Logan stopped and turned.
‘Do you want me to throw you down the fucking stairs?’
‘Not particularly.’
‘Then shut up and leave me alone.’
He ran up the rest of the stairs and Wade winced at the sound of your apartment door slamming shut.
In the apartment, Logan was riled up and pacing the bedroom. You knew telling him to calm down wouldn’t help so you just continued packing. Logan eventually stopped and sat down on the edge of the bed.
‘Feel better now?’ You asked.
‘No.’
You sighed and sat next to him.
‘Maybe we should tell him.’
Logan looked at you.
‘No way,’ he shook his head, ‘he’ll end up inviting himself along.’
‘I don’t mean that. The other thing.’
Logan thought.
‘No,’ he said eventually.
‘At least he wouldn’t try and invite himself to that.’
Logan laughed, an edge of bitterness to it.
‘Don’t count on it.’
You grimaced.
‘I mean he’s worked out something is going on.’
‘Because he’s a nosy piece of shit.’
‘Yeah well I’ve not told him anything and he won’t know where we’ve gone so sucks to be him!’
Logan smiled and kissed you.
**
‘Do you need any of this put on your back?’
Logan waved the sunscreen at you. You sighed and smiled. You didn’t but you knew why he wanted to. You would sit patiently while he very slowly applied it, stroking and rubbing your skin. You were glad you’d decided to spend the day at the house rather than the beach as you weren’t sure the neck kisses and nuzzles that you would be treated to were entirely a required part of the process. You didn’t mind them though. Logan’s hand drifted and rested just below your breasts.
‘Front and back,’ he whispered.
‘I don’t need any more sunscreen,’ you smiled.
You turned your head to see Logan pout and laughed.
‘You’ll need to reapply it in a few hours…’ he said.
‘Well if I need help then I’ll be sure to ask you,’ you smiled.
‘Good,’ he smiled back.
You turned your head and continued to smile as Logan kissed you softly. Then a little deeper, then deeper still. You wove your fingers into his hair and felt his big hands on your waist, pulling you to him. You sighed a little, making Logan slip his tongue into your mouth. You were just about to slide into his lap when…
‘DO YOU GUYS WANT MARGARITAS?’
***
You’d arrived at the house early, escaping the city (and Wade) before rush hour and the day had barely begun. You’d made love even before you’d unpacked, Logan sweeping you up into his arms and striding off into the bedroom. After Logan finally let you up, you unpacked and after explored the town, finding numerous quiet and quaint coffee shops and stores. You’d both spent a couple of pleasantly silent hours rummaging around a bookstore, the bag Logan carried back to the house bulging with new finds.
You hadn’t wanted to cook so after showering – with Logan of course – you found a nearby restaurant, made a reservation and both dressed up smartly. You loved how Logan normally dressed and would never want to change him but seeing him in the suit and dress shirt he’d brought with him made you beam with pride.
‘Where did you find this?’ You asked, brushing down the lapels.
‘Thrift store,’ he said, preening a little in the mirror.
You opened the jacket and caught a glimpse at the label.
‘Wow!’
‘What?’
‘This is an Armani suit, Logan!’
‘So?’
‘So! It’s a designer suit, they cost thousands of dollars. How much did you pay for it?’
Logan looked down at himself and shrugged.
‘I dunno. Like, fifty bucks or something.’
‘Well,’ you said smiling, ‘bargain of the century. I’d say. Very handsome.’
Logan smiled and kissed you.
‘Looking pretty good yourself, sweetheart,’ he smiled.
‘Oh this?’ you said, smoothing down your dress, ‘just a scrap I had in my wardrobe.’
The ‘scrap’ was not in fact just something you had but a dress you’d gone out specially to buy, knowing it would drive Logan crazy. It hugged you in all the right places, giving you a bust, waist and ass to die for. Logan couldn’t take his eyes off you. Which meant it was working exactly as intended.
The restaurant was busy, but still quiet enough to talk. It was fancier than anywhere you normally went, but you were on vacation and there was no harm in treating yourselves. You both sat and talked for a while, enjoying the food, the wine, the ambiance.
‘Need to use the ladies' room,’ you said, standing up. You smiled as Logan did the same. Beneath all the gruff and claws and violence he was, when he wanted to be, a very chivalrous man.
‘I won’t be long,’ you said and walked off, making sure Logan got a good look at you as you walked away. Just as you were about to turn the corner to where the bathrooms were, you looked back and he was still watching you. You gave him a little wave and disappeared. Logan let out a breath and sat down. What was this life and who were you, this beautiful creature who put up with him and his bullshit? For the first time he actually felt like thanking Wade for dragging him out of his pit and bringing him here. Meeting you, being with you, was like living in bright sunshine every single day. He smiled to himself, waiting for you to return. Eventually he heard the sound of your footsteps coming towards him. He turned to watch you, the slight but deliberate sway of your hips making him feel like maybe you could skip dessert and head home for ‘dessert’. As you sat back down, it seemed that you had had a similar idea.
‘Want to get the bill and we can get out of here?’ you said.
Logan gestured for the waiter.
As much as you wanted to run home, you didn’t. In fact, it took you longer to get back to the house than you’d thought it would. The main reason being Logan pulling you into a side street then behind a row of shops and pushing you against the wall. As you wriggled your dress up over your hips, he was undoing his pants. You’d not fucked outside like this before, and Logan had to push his hand into your mouth for you to bite down on in case your screams attracted attention. You were sure, a hazy thought at the back of your mind, that there were any number of security cameras watching what you were doing it, but all you wanted in that moment was Logan and his cock inside you. Emerging back onto the main street, Logan took off his jacket and draped it over your shoulders, then took your hand. You both continued your pleasant stroll home, hoping that none of the people who passed you had any idea what you’d just been doing.
As you approached the house, you noticed Logan slowing down. You grinned a little.
‘Logan, we’re nearly home, I think you can wait,’ you said.
‘No,’ he said, sounding serious, ‘someone’s here.’
You tightened your grip on Logan’s hand.
‘What do you mean?’
‘Someone’s been at the house. I think they might be inside.’
‘Oh shit!’ You said, ‘we should call the police.’
Logan turned to you and shook his head. You heard the sound of his claws being released.
‘Wait here,’ he said, his voice low now. He motioned you to stay on the sidewalk and stealthily moved towards the house. You could see that the front door was indeed ajar. Your heart pounded in your chest. Logan reached the house with his one fist raised, the light from the streetlamps glinting off his claws, and he pushed the door open slowly. You watched him creep inside. The silence that followed was tense and you had to stop yourself from running in after him. It felt like hours before you heard Logan calling you. He sounded annoyed.
You stepped into the house and went into the lounge, immediately seeing the source of his annoyance.
‘Wade,’ you said, your tone flat, ‘what…..?’
Wade was sitting on the couch, lounging on the couch to be correct, a beer in hand, a bowl of chips resting on his stomach.
‘Hi!’ he said brightly.
‘Did you break in? Why are you even here??’
He moved the chips and sat up.
‘Well it’s a long story…’
‘I don’t care,’ Logan cut in, ‘get out.’
Wade stared at him.
‘It’s very late,’ he said.
‘I don’t care. Get out and fuck off.’
You looked at the time. It was very late.
‘Can we deal with this in the morning?’ You asked, wrapping your arms around Logan, ‘I’m tired and my feet ache and I need….’
You stopped yourself before saying too much.
‘Need what?’ Logan asked.
‘….you to rub my feet,’ you finished, hoping that Wade didn’t see the wink you gave Logan.
‘Sure, sweetheart, whatever you need,’ he turned to Wade, pointing a finger at him, ‘tomorrow, you’re gone.’
Wade slept on the sofa. Well, he tried to sleep. It was hard what with the ‘foot rubs’ Logan was giving you for hours on end…
***
‘DID YOU HEAR ME? I SAID DO YOU GUYS WANT MARGARITAS?’
Logan groaned and dropped his head to your shoulder.
‘How the hell did he manage to persuade us he could stay?’ he asked.
‘I genuinely don’t know,’ you replied.
Logan raised his head and looked at you.
‘Sorry,’ he said.
‘Not your fault,’ you smiled and kissed him. Logan pulled you back with him onto the sun lounger, and he was still kissing you when Wade emerged from the house with a tray laden with drinks.
‘How you two ever get anything done is beyond me,’ he said, taking a drink and laying back on another sun lounger. You stared at him. He had on a pair of the shortest shorts you’d ever seen and an extreme vibrant Hawaiian shirt.
‘Do you want some sunscreen Wade?’ You asked.
‘Don’t need it, sweet cheeks,’ he said, sipping his drink through a twirly straw.
Logan glared at him.
‘Don’t call her that,’ he said.
‘I don’t mind.’
‘I do,’ Logan grumped.
‘So can neither of you get sun burned?’ you asked, ignoring Logan and his sulking.
Wade held out his arms and waggled his fingers.
‘Healing factor, baby!’ he said.
‘Lucky,’ you said, ‘I can’t stay out too long otherwise I just go bright pink. Not a good look.’
You snuggled back against Logan. Part of you wondered if you should be more discreet now Wade was here but he was the one who gate crashed your vacation, he’d have to deal with yours and Logan’s public displays of affection. As you lay back against him, you had your hand rested on Logan’s leg, the shorts he had on showing off his extremely muscular thighs. As you chatted, you idly scratched at his leg, the rough hair and muscles shifting under your gentle touch. Lounging against Logan as you were, you could also feel the effect it was having on him. You turned to look at him. He was slowly going red, and it had nothing to do with the sun. You grinned and snuggled back against him a little more, maybe wiggling your ass against him, listening to the strangled groan that came out of him. Wade continued to chatter on, oblivious.
‘So when were you two going to tell me about the baby?’ Wade said suddenly.
‘What baby?’ Logan asked.
‘The one you two have been trying to make. Judging by the excessive amounts of noise last night, you’re both putting in maximum effort.’
Logan glared at him. You squeezed his thigh, hoping to forestall any sort of attack. You sighed.
‘Yes we are trying, but, y’know, if it doesn’t happen it doesn’t happen.’
You felt Logan’s hand slipping into yours. He and you both hoped that it would indeed happen. But hope was a fragile thing.
‘Well,’ Wade said, sipping his drink, ‘practise makes perfect.’ Then he slipped his sunglasses onto his face and settled back on the sun lounger.
***
Later, after you worked on Wade and persuaded him to go and take in the sights of the town and beach, you and Logan were messing around in the pool. Your swimsuit had been discarded, as had Logan’s shorts, and you were currently pinned against the side, Logan planting kisses up and down your neck. You could feel him hard against you.
‘We should be quick,’ you said breathlessly, ‘before Wade comes back.’
Logan continued to nuzzle at you.
‘I ain’t rushing,’ he said.
And he didn’t. You couldn’t help but feel a little excited by the idea that Wade might walk in and catch you in the act, but you didn’t tell Logan that. Like the other night when he’d fucked you behind the building, that there might have been someone watching you...your mind wandered back to your first date and the couple you’d seen getting off in public in the restaurant. You’d told Logan then that you’d never had sex outside…and now you had you found yourself lifting your legs and wrapping them around Logan’s waist. He looked at you.
‘You okay?’
‘I’m very okay,’ you smiled and urged him to continue.
Logan fucked you against the side of the pool. Then again on the sun lounger when you got out of the pool. He was always pretty insatiable but he seemed even more so now. The combination of being away, somewhere warm and sunny, private...well, it had been until Wade showed up. You’d seen the weight that Logan always seemed to be carrying disappear since you’d been here. Maybe he deserved a quieter life than the one he led, at least when he wasn’t with you. Working for the TVA was not without its dangers and healing factor or not, he still got hurt.
You eventually found your swimsuit and Logan’s shorts, along with a couple of towels. You tried to get Logan to cover up but he refused, preferring to walk back into the house completely naked.
‘What if Wade is in there?’ you asked.
‘Then he’ll see me naked,’ he shrugged.
‘Alright,’ you said, ‘but you know he will never shut up about it if he does.’
‘He never shuts up anyway so why would me being naked make any difference?’
He had a point.
Wade wasn’t back so after showering – successfully shutting Logan out of the bathroom this time – you pulled on a loose dress and wondered about making a start on dinner.
‘I’ll cook,’ Logan said, now wearing his shorts again though little else, searching through the cupboards. You gave him a kiss and took the bottle of beer he proffered you. As you walked away to the lounge he smacked your ass. You gave it a wiggle as you disappeared into the other room, making him laugh.
When Wade returned he was full of effusive praise for the town and sat next to you holding forth while Logan crashed about in the kitchen.
‘What IS he doing?’ he asked.
‘Cooking dinner. He’s not normally this noisy but I think he’s making a point.’
‘Oh.’
You rose an eyebrow at Wade but clearly the ‘point’ was lost on him, most likely deliberately.
‘So what did you two crazy kids do while I was out as if I can’t guess?’
You shrugged.
‘We’re on vacation,’ you said, ‘what else is there to do?’
‘You could have joined me on the historical walking tour,’ Wade suggested.
You shook your head.
‘We tried that once. Logan starts heckling if they get something wrong,’ you said.
‘I ain’t paying to be told historical inaccuracies, especially if I’ve lived through them,’ the man himself grumbled as he wandered back into the room. He dropped down on the sofa beside you, ‘dinner won’t be long.’
‘What are we having?’ You asked.
‘Lasagne.’
Logan’s repertoire was small but good. You asked him once who he learned to cook from but he couldn’t remember. ‘Just picked stuff up’ he said. Not that it mattered. When Logan got the urge he’d spend the whole afternoon in the kitchen filling up the freezer with meals – with more heading to Wade and Al if he’d really been on a tear – which meant neither of you had to think too much after long day at work. A small moment of normality that helped ground Logan, helped calm him, give him a sense of belonging in a world that he genuinely didn’t belong in.
The three of you sat, idly chatting, while waiting for the oven timer to go off. As annoyed as you’d been when Wade gate-crashed you were starting to find that you didn’t really mind him being there. It was clear he was as in need of a break as you and Logan. He’d already chattered on about what he’d planned to do the next day. It was nice to see both men relaxing for once.
‘I think it would be great if you had a baby,’ Wade piped up.
Logan glanced at him.
‘Glad we have your approval,’ he grumped.
‘Offering to babysit, Wade?’ You smiled.
Wade laughed.
‘Like he’d ever trust me with a kid of his!’
'Not a chance in hell,’ Logan agreed.
‘I’m thinking more of being the fun uncle. Funcle, if you will.’
‘Of course you are,’ Logan grumbled.
‘Well thank you Wade, we shall keep that in mind,’ you said.
After dinner, and after you’d refereed the washing and drying of the dishes by Logan and Wade, you and Logan went for a walk. Wade had been left splashing around in the pool. You felt the warmth of Logan’s hand in yours as you strolled along.
‘Are you enjoying yourself?’ You asked.
‘Aside from the gate crasher, yeah,’ Logan said.
You let out a small laugh.
‘I’m honestly surprised it took him a whole day to work out where we’d gone,’ you said.
Logan shook his head.
‘Probably broke into the apartment the second he saw us drive off.’
You felt Logan’s arm move around your waist. You leant into him and wrapped both of yours around him.
‘I don’t mind him so much,’ you said, smiling, ‘and he has to suffer hearing us have sex so…’
‘I’m not sure he’s suffering much,’ Logan grimaced.
You moved away from him and stopped walking.
‘Do you find it a little bit exciting?’
‘What?’
‘Being overheard. Being caught.’
‘Not really…’
You looked at him.
‘You didn’t seem to mind pulling me into an alleyway the other night,’ you said.
‘No one was around,’ Logan said.
You pointed up at the side of the building you were passing.
‘No one, huh?’
Logan followed your finger.
‘Ah…’ he waved up at the security camera then turned back to you, ‘if Wade didn’t want to hear us he should have stayed home.’
‘Hmmm. In case you were wondering,’ you said, sidling up to him and wrapping your arms around his neck, ‘I did find it a little bit exciting.’
You felt Logan’s hands move to your waist.
‘I can see that,’ he grinned.
***
‘Sooooo, what were you charged with?’
‘We weren’t charged with anything,’ you sighed, ‘it was just a warning.’
‘Oh okay,’ Wade grinned. He noted Logan’s fierce look but it was too delicious and he just couldn’t help himself, ‘but what would you have been charged with if you hadn’t sweet talked the cop?’
‘We didn’t sweet talk anyone! And public indecency, as well you know.’
‘Drop it,’ Logan growled, ‘now.’
Wade made the zipping motion over his mouth and threw away the imaginary key. He would drop it for now, but rest assured both he and Logan knew that there was no way on earth he was never mentioning this again.
As far as you and Logan were concerned, the spot you found was perfectly private, albeit outside. It was a quiet evening, late on, most people well on their way home. The small shelter in the park was hexagonal in shape, enclosed except for one side which was open. A small bench ran around the walls inside. It was a place to go and sit for a moment to reflect, take a breath, and judging by the used condoms on the ground, you and Logan were not the first ones to use it for your intended purpose.
You pushed Logan down onto the seat and pulled up your skirt, straddling him. He grinned up at you, grabbing your hips and pulling you harder against his crotch. You smiled and kissed him, feeling his hands starting to move into your underwear. You gasped as his fingers brushed over you and then slipped one inside.
‘So wet already,’ he said, ‘the idea of this really does turn you on.’
You shrugged.
‘It’s a surprise to me as well....oh....’
Logan had started to stroke your clit, his fingers slick with you. You ground yourself against his palm. Against your thigh you could feel his erection growing. You reached a hand down and squeezed him. He grunted and you felt him press himself into your hand. You then felt the cold metal of a claw against your skin, and your underwear was in shreds on the floor. You rolled your eyes.
‘You really need to stop doing that, it’s costing me a fortune.’
Logan chuckled and moved to flip you onto your back. The wood felt warm and smooth. You watched as Logan unbuckled his jeans and shoved them and his underwear down. He moved on top of you, lining himself up. He was just about to thrust into you when...
‘Would you like to explain to me why you are about to commit an act of public indecency?’
Logan looked round and held up a hand against the beam of the flashlight the policeman was holding. You rapidly pulled your skirt down, yanking on the hem, very aware that you had no underwear anymore.
‘I’d suggest you pull up your pants and go home, sir,’ the cop said.
Logan did so.
‘We can explain...’ you began.
‘I’m a married man with three kids,’ the cop sighed, ‘I don’t need anything explained to me.’
‘Yes but...’
‘Baby, it’s not worth it,’ Logan said, ‘let’s just go.’
Logan stood and helped you up, taking off his flannel and tying it around your waist.
‘I’ll let you go with a warning but I won’t be so lenient next time,’ the cop said.
‘There won’t be one, officer,’ Logan said.
He grabbed your hand and you both ran from the park and most of the way home.
When you finally explained to Wade what had happened it was the greatest moment of his life.
***
The next day started a little subdued. You lounged in bed, listening to the sounds of Logan in the kitchen making coffee. You’d woken up feeling a profound sense of embarrassment. The thrill of getting frisky outside with Logan had somewhat worn off. You looked up as he walked in carrying two mugs of coffee. He put them down and bent down to kiss you.
‘You okay?’
‘Yeah. Just feel foolish.’
Logan sighed and slipped back into bed.
‘Don’t. We knew the risk.’
‘I guess,’ you sighed, ‘kinda glad my mom’s not around. Not sure how I’d have explained it to her.’
Logan laughed a little.
‘She’d have found it hilarious, let’s be real.’
You smiled. It was true, she probably would.
You both sat quietly sipping on your coffee for a while. Logan put his mug down and sighed.
‘What do you want?’
Wade’s head peeped around the door.
‘Hi,’ he said, holding a tray, ‘I made breakfast.’
Next thing Wade was sitting in bed in between you and Logan, each of you with a bowl of cereal in hand, munching away. You smiled a little at Logan’s exasperated expression and were glad that you had at least not gone to bed naked the night before.
‘What are the plans for today?’ Wade asked.
‘Not sure I want to go out,’ you said, eating a spoonful of cereal.
‘Why?’
‘You know why,’ Logan growled.
Wade shrugged.
‘No one out there is going to know what you did,’ he said.
True, but it didn’t make it feel any less embarrassing.
‘And,’ Wade continued, ‘are you really going to make me go to the railroad museum all by myself?’
Logan looked at him.
‘Why the fuck are you going to the railroad museum?’
‘To learn about the railroad.’
Logan shook his head and went back to his cereal.
'We could go I suppose,’ you said, ‘it would be a nice safe thing to do.’
‘Unlikely to get this one,’ Wade cocked a thumb at Logan, ‘all riled up and horny.’
‘Wade, you make him sound like a dog,’ you chided.
‘I am sat here,’ Logan complained.
As the day went on, you realised that Wade was chaperoning you, always ensuring that he was stood between you and Logan, making some excuse to show you another exhibit whenever Logan reached for your hand. Like a fierce aunt in a Victorian novel, it made you laugh. Logan was not finding it as amusing but you would make it up to him later. The sheer absurdity of it made you forget your embarrassment from the night before and despite yourself you enjoyed your day.
‘Wade,’ you began.
‘Yes?’
‘May I hold Logan’s hand? He’s looking a little murderous and it might help you not get stabbed in the head.’
You realised you probably shouldn’t have said that last part out loud in public but you didn’t think anyone heard. Wade sighed and nodded, moving back to let you take Logan’s hand and bring him close to your side. Logan glared at Wade, wondering if you could both make a run for it, but knowing full well the asshole would catch up with you.
‘Hi,’ you said quietly to Logan, bumping against his side.
Despite himself, Logan smiled and said hi back.
‘They have scones in the cafe!’ you heard Wade call.
‘Holding hand AND scones in the cafe!’ you grinned, ‘could this day get any better?’
Logan shrugged.
‘We haven’t been arrested so...’
On the walk back to the house, you felt Logan’s arm snake around your shoulder and you leaned into him more, wrapping your own arms around his waist.
‘We need to pack,’ you said sadly.
‘I know,’ he said, planting a soft kiss on the top of your head.
‘It has been lovely,’ Wade sighed.
Logan glared at him, but even he couldn’t deny that the time away had been very needed. He looked down at you as you walked. He wondered if anything was happening, if any of the sex you’d been having was having the desired biological reaction. He smiled a little at the thought of it, and silently said a little prayer. He wasn’t a religious man by any means, Logan Howlett, but he understood the power of faith, of believing in something. He and Kurt had talked about it many times, late at night when Logan’s nightmares were too much for him to bear. He’d been a dear friend, Kurt. Logan looked around at where Wade was walking beside you, talking ten to the dozen, while you smiled and laughed at what he was saying. He hated to admit it but Wade was also a dear friend, a good man, though he knew Wade would likely never agree to the last part. Logan squeezed your shoulder and you glanced at him, smiling. He smiled back then looked over at Wade again and gave him a small nod. A little recognition. Wade nodded back. You soon spotted the house and pointed at it up ahead. You broke away from Logan and turned to both men
‘Race ya!’ you said and sped off down the sidewalk.
Logan looked at Wade and he at Logan and both of them started to run.
