So I dated this guy 11 years ago....from the minute we met, before we ever said a word to each other, we just had a connection. When we eventually parted ways, there was no bad blood; we just were going different directions in life. 

And then, I ran into him a few months ago at a vape shop. He was dating someone at the time, so we made small talk, and I went on my way. 

Now, we’re back in contact and he’s no longer with the girl from before. It seems as though no time has passed, because we’ve just picked up right where we left off 11 years ago. Like we never skipped a beat. After all this time, we still have that connection that can’t be explained. I believe we can start over and no matter what comes our way, we’ll get through it because the bond we share hasn’t broken in all this time, and that counts for something. It’s some cheesy shit, but I’m truly happy.

I don’t know why I’m so surprised. I should've known when you told me (countless times) without words that I just wasn’t that special to you. I mean what did I expect, right? 

We don’t even live in the same state. I obviously couldn’t be anything to you other than someone to fill the time. I was stupid to think you’d be upset if we didn’t talk. I was nothing to you from the beginning, I just didn’t see it. You're selfish, just like the rest. And I’m stupid for thinking you weren't. 

Live your life. Don't contact me. You've already shown how easy it is to forget me.

Ode to the true blue

She took us in on short notice without being asked. 

All I did was tell her what was happening as I cried about it. I told her how I didn’t understand why my parents would do what they did and I told her that I wondered how they slept at night. All she said was, “You’re coming here. We have an extra room.”  And when I told her I didn’t know what to say, she replied with “Just say ok”;  so I did.

But if you really break it down, you'll see what this girl and her husband gave up to have us here...

- They have 5 dogs, and they gave up one of them (their 12yo son’s favorite), until we leave, because she’s too rough around small children and they didn't wanna take that chance with my 6yo and 8yo

- They rearranged everything in the room they gave us, and then set up a flatscreen equipped with cable in it for us

- They spent late hours coming to help me pack all of our furniture etc, and drove out to their property to get a 20ft trailer to get everything and unload it at my storage unit- while I sat at home because they told me they’d handle everything for me

- They make sure we have food when I get home from my 11hr shifts everyday, and even had our room set up for us when we came the first night. Beds were set up with sheets, clothes stacked in our closet (which has a ton of space BTW)

And last night, I came home from work and she’d done every stitch of laundry we had. Folded everything and put them in our room neatly. 

That’s a true friend, just in case anybody gets confused on the definition.

The Lost Friend

We've all seen this before. Your best friend of several years has to move away, and things get shitty once they've settled into their new life, in a new city. Before you know it, your nightly chat sessions via Skype have dwindled down to twice a week. A little further, you realize you haven't talked to them in two weeks. Eventually you're not even sure you exist to them anymore because they're tagged in 40+ posts on Facebook, with their new friends. Your texts routinely go unanswered, even when you've got big news or need support. They're just too busy. It's sad to know that your best friend has more important things to do than drop a line and ask how you're doing. You care about what's going down in their life, and want to share it with them, but what's going on in yours is a non-mf factor. In a world where good friends are hard to come by, you just can't afford to lose any more than what you've lost already.
