The feast was great...
And I am glad to be back.
Four days...
Whatâs your obsession? You learn mediocre generalities, not anything thatâs truly going to get you by in life. I taught myself everything I ever needed to know. I have every right to talk about it that way.
Maybe it's the fact that I respect the school and everything in it. You wouldn't be half the wizard that you are if it weren't for Hogwarts. Don't let yourself get too cocky about self learning, now.
Four days...
Oh, yeah. Itâs a real hoot if youâre into learning how to pull a rabbit out of your hat by a crack-pipe old geezer with an addiction to disgusting muggle sweets.
What's your problem with Hogwarts anyway? You learn a lot of things from that place and you certainly have no right to talk about it in that way.
Sore Throat and a Sundae || Doe&Alice
 Returning from the queue with a very delicious-looking sundae in hand, Alice took her seat with a smile. It really was nice to see someone again other than the healers and her family. While the healers had been wonderful and nice and her parents and sister were always great to visit with, she had definitely felt the seclusion that came with being in St. Mungoâs and later on bed rest. âAuror, ice cream consultant, they both sound good,â Alice laughed softly, picking up her spoon. At the moment, an ice cream consultant sounded like a fantastic profession to her, but she really did love what she was doing.
The raven-haired girl scooped a bit of the sundae into her mouth, lighting up when she realized just how tasty the treat was. It felt like it had been longer than she had remembered since she had last eaten ice cream. She nodded enthusiastically, finishing her bite as she formulated how best to reply. âItâs great. I havenât been in a little while, unfortunately, but I am going back tomorrow and I cannot wait. Itâs hard work, rather exhausting, really, but it is rewarding and I feel like I have already made definite improvements. I just hope that I will be able to help the wizarding world when all is said and done.â
"Extremely good, I tell you." Nodding with a laugh, it couldn't escape her thoughts. Dorcas Meadowes - Ice Cream consultant extraordinaire? No. It didn't sound right. It sounded more like... Auror Meadowes. There. It sounded better. "If one could be both, you know, a day job and a night job, I'd be totally up for it." Grinning widely and deciding to go back to her already melted sundae, Doe scooped a spoonful of the once frozen cream and put it in her mouth.
Seeing Alice light up, it made Doe smile. An ice cream after all that happened in that alley brightened up her day, and now Alice's. It was a great thought. "Oh yes. I see." Nodding, Doe scooped another bit of her sundae into her mouth, savoring the taste first before talking again. "I've heard around it is quite the training session. But it's worth it, too." It was nice to talk to an auror in training, to get a grasp of whatever she was going to go through. "Exactly what I was thinking. But... My uncle, he was an auror, and he said it was like jumping on a moving train and hoping not to die. Is it really that bad, with all the consequences and all?"Â
Four days...
 Why anyone would want to go back to that hell-hole is beyond me.
Hey, don't say that. The castle is nowhere close to a hell-hole. Hogwarts is a great place.
 Your house shouldnât have anything to do with what you want to eventually do post-Hogwarts. At least, thatâs what I think. Itâs ultimately your decision at the end of the day. Anyway, I know plenty of other Ravenclaws who have joined the Ministry of Magic to become an Auror. So, you wonât be the first, and probably not the last, either.
Exactly what I've been telling the lot of them. I know I'm going to be accompanied by a few of my friends in this auror business, but to be honest I'm not sure if they can pull through with the whole thing. Don't get me wrong, they're great, but they just aren't the type for that kind of work... I more see them in somewhere like... Owning a little shop or something.
Four days...
 Iâm really looking forward to getting back into my work.
You are? I'm thinking Quidditch... Though I have to do some good studying for NEWTs this year!

Sore Throat and a Sundae || Doe&Alice
 A smile spread across Aliceâs face as she listened to Doe describe how she had been relaxing and recovering lately. âThat sounds very enjoyable,â she nodded, thinking of how much she enjoyed listening to the muggle record player in her parentsâ living room. Alice really loved music, and hummed and sang to herself all of the time (though she tried to avoid it in public so as not to be rude), so her friendâs methods of getting better sounded very nice to her. The thought that she should get a place of her own still floated in and out of her mind, and she wondered if she might have some means of playing music wherever she eventually moved.
Giving a nod of agreement, she settled her mind on something more pleasant. She did not want to dwell on the memories that still managed to plague her, even after weeks had passed. âI hope you have a wonderful final year,â Aliceâs smile was enthusiastic and honest, and she thought briefly of her own last year at Hogwarts. After standing in line for a small bit, she returned to the table with a sundae and spoon in hand, pulling out the chair and taking a seat. âThis does look fabulous,â she commented, taking a napkin and folding it out over her lap. âI am lucky to have seen you with one before I ordered because it was an excellent choice.â
"I think I'll have a fairly good last year," Doe sounded nonchalant with her reply, adding a shrug too for extra effect, but there was something eating her up in the back of her mind. Was she scared because shew as gonna leave the castle in a year? Most definitely. Was she ready to have her final year? Er... Maybe. All summer long she'd been musing about skipping out on her final year then go back the next. But one thing was for sure - she was glad to be going back.
Seeing Alice come back with the sundae in hand, Doe crossed her arms over the table, pushing her sundae to the side. It was slowly turning into a melting blob of chocolate and vanilla in her bowl, and she promised to herself she'd have more of it later. She laughed when Alice complimented her choice in ice cream. "If there were such a job as being an ice cream consultant, I would take it up, But unfortunately I want to be an auror." Grinning proudly, Doe cocked her head to the side, remembering a little something about Alice. "Hey, Alice, aren't you an auror in training? What's it like?"
 I really have no idea what Iâm doing. I enter the muggle world and Iâm completely lost.
Really? It's quite the same, actually... except there are no magic folk and they don't accept galleons... They tend to get all greedy when you give them gold. But if you find a bookshop I bet you'll find what you need... And maybe... Get your money exchanged?
Four days...
..'Till we go back to Hogwarts. Unlike last year I can't seem to wait.
I have no idea where to go to get my books for my muggle art classes this year. Or how to use muggleâs version of money.
Really? She almost laughs. I'm willing to help.Â
Sore Throat and a Sundae || Doe&Alice
 Alice gave a small shrug. âFor a little while,â she underestimated her visit. âBut I am nice and healthy now, which is the important part. Were you⌠were you okay after everything that happened?â She really did not want to pry, but it was frightening to think of who else might have been hurt. Having been shielded from news by her Healers had not helped her maintain a piece of mind, though at least she had Grace give her a small briefing when the girl came to visit her room one day.
A frown creased her face and she sighed slightly. âIâm sorry to hear that you were there at all.â She hated that other people had been hurt, even if it had been inevitable. At the same time, the topic was not a friendly or very conversational one, and so she understood the desire to change the subject just as well as anyone else did. âWell, thank you,â she nodded with a slight smile. âI finally got to go back to work and see people, which was a relief.â Her smile growing, Alice uttered a thank you in reply, promising to be back as soon as she could, before going to get on the queue.
"That's always good to hear." She shrugged lightly, spooning another spoonful of fudge into her mouth. "Yeah, just stayed home and listened to some songs. It's a little like self therapy, you know?" Doe laughed lightly, tapping her spoon on the rim of the glass bowl. It was true. The weeks after the Diagon Alley attack she'd cooped herself up in her room endlessly playing Rolling Stones and Led Zepellin so loud she was lost in the music and her mum had to bang on her door ten times to get her down for dinner.
"Thing of the past now, I like to say." Dorcas waved her hand in the air dismissively. Of course there were still the occasional bad dreams and unwanted flashbacks but she tried her best to push the whole ordeal to the back of her mind, and like most people, tried to move on from then. "That's great. I'm off to Hogwarts in a little less than a week and needless to say I'm extremely thankful." Doe grinned at Alice. "I don't feel any safer than I do that Hogwarts, I'll tell you that." Watching as Alice went off to join the queue, Doe pulled the chair with her free hand to her side and taped her fingers on the table, waiting for her friend to come and sit down.
 I wouldnât know, not being in that Department. Youâre probably better off asking somebody else rather than myself. And yes, wait and see. Iâm sure a lot of them will suddenly change their minds once they know what the job truly entails. He chuckled lightly. Yeah, itâs not bad. I mean, itâs good. You know, really good.
Oh I've asked around. And frankly, I was a little scared at first. She laughs. Then they'll change to wanting to be some sort of reporter or Ministry worker. Some people question my want to become an auror because I'm a Ravenclaw and they say I should use my smarts somewhere else. But I figured being an auror wasn't all brawn, you need brains too.Â
Sore Throat and a Sundae || Doe&Alice
 Ever since the attack, even though Alice had been cooped up at St. Mungoâs and even her own house, she could tell that people had been skirting around saying certain things. They had avoided discussing their feelings, their state of mind, how well they felt, and many such topics. But she understood that. She really understood it because she had been doing the same exact thing, and it looked like she still was.
A small laugh fell from her lips, just barely lighting up her eyes, and she nodded. âNow that I understand. My mum is not too far off the mark from yours, it sounds. Even once my bed rest time was up, she still hasnât wanted to let me out of her sight. It is a wonder she finally relented and agreed to let me return to work, though I suspect she might have just gotten tired of my constant nagging on the subject.â She gave a guilty smile. Shaking her head immediately, Alice waved her hand with a smile, âno, no, that is quite alright! I will go get one for myself. I came here in search of a treat, and after seeing your sundae, I donât even have to look at the menu. Save this seat for when I return?â her hands tapped the rim of the chairâs back as she smiled lightly.
"Bed rest? You mean... Well, from what I gather, you went to Mungo's, eh?" Doe asked, propping her elbow on the wooden table and resting her cheek on her hand. She remembered her hospital stay at Mungo's and it was quite the strange time, visited every so often by her parents and stuck in bed all day. And by the time she was out, her back was sore from all the laying around.Â
"I'm glad I just stayed for a week..." The words came out of her mouth without much of her control, then she looked at Alice with an almost guilty expression on her face. Dorcas remembered at some people were already getting better from the attack and they're much rather not talk about it... Just like herself. And she didn't want to have some sort of an awkward pause between her and Alice, so she tried to find some sort of a normal sounding continuation. "...How... How have you been from then?" There. Good enough. She thought to herself, giving Alice a thoughtful look. Then she perked up when Alice mentioned about herself getting a sundae as well, then she tapped the chair beside her and smiled broadly. "Yeah! I'll keep it safe for you. You go get your ice cream."
