He’d lost interest in the book on his blue ipad a long time ago, so Dr. Smith decided stretching his long, aching legs might be a better idea. So he went to a vending machine for a little snack. It would just be his luck that the candy bar got stuck, causing him to bang on the thing, hoping to make his treat fall. “Stupid machine,” he growled, mid-banging. “You don’t get to keep my candy. Not today.”

Dr. John Smith often sat at the bar, eating and drinking alone. He wasn't the youngest guy in the bar ever, so nobody tried to hit on him much. His hair was grey, and usually these women seemed to go for blokes with a better head of hair. But that was alright with him, because he mostly just people-watched, or remained lost in his thoughts. But tonight was different. If there was one thing he couldn't stand, it was idiots, and the man hitting on her was an idiot with a capital 'i'. So he stood and walked around the bar to them, his eyes hard and narrowed. "Excuse me. You're in my seat. I'm her boyfriend, you see."

And he had worked there a very long time, if the lines on his face and the grey hair was any indication. He was a brilliant neurosurgeon who was also eccentric and terrifying. The eyebrows alone were unnerving, really. But he had a good bedside manner, and he was a good teacher. Still, interns were usually nervous about working under him, but they really didn’t have any choice. Today, one Clara Oswald was with him. When he approached the group of interns, his eyes narrowed on her almost immediately. “You. Miss Oswald. You’re with me today. Come on.” And then he was going, not even waiting for her to catch up.
