A Collaborative Jily Workplace AU

I thought I’d create a wee banner for this fic I started writing, and hoping to have you guys collaborate with me on by guiding me as I write it.

She checked the time on her phone – it was a very respectable 8.47, meaning that she was a good 13 minutes early. This, she hoped, her new boss would take as eagerness to start.

The doors of the lift opened, and she looked up from her phone just in time as out stepped - oh god. Oh god, oh god, oh god!

He had stopped in his tracks, too. His eyes wide behind his glasses, his hair messy and unkempt, slightly wet from the shower he had clearly taken himself after she had left that morning, and – she flushed violently, heat creeping across her skin. She had trouble breathing.

It appeared to be nothing special, just a room filled with desks and chairs pushed against the walls, but across from James was something else, something that looked like it didn't belong. A tall mirror coated in gold faced him, and James approached it, intending to fix his hair. Staring back at him, though, was someone else entirely. James’s eyes widened. No, not someone else. It was his own tan skin, his own tousled hair, his own brown eyes glinting behind his specs. But his face was lined, and his hair was greyed.

Nonetheless, he put a comforting hand on his daughter's shoulder, and said, quite steadily, “It’s fine to have questions, love, and I’ll answer. I just want to know where it’s coming from.” 

She looked up at him, the color of his eyes in the shape of Florence’s, with an apprehension he’d never seen there—not directed at him, anyway. 

“You were really, really angry,” she said quietly. 

It was a terrible thing to realise how badly he’d messed up, right in front of her. James could cry, probably would, later, after his run. He desperately needed to run.
