An Imperial ELINT ship on patrol in the outer belt. Crews hate being deployed this far out; the transmissions from nearby asteroids are a constant reminder of what is hibernating beneath the ice all around them, and some crew members even claim to hear voices calling to them in the static.

Ships of the Imperial Terraforming Company transfer indebted workers off an asteroid before it crosses the imperial border. Keeping their operations just outside imperial space allows them to avoid even the minimal protections provided to citizens of the imperial periphery.

A resupply ship arrives at the system's interstellar radio receiver. The accompanying transmitter was destroyed in the waking, but a few volunteers continue to man the station, listening to the increasingly rare transmissions from Sol attempting to re-establish contact.

Port Artemis, the empire's regional capital for the inner belt. Many were initially optimistic about the Imperial presence, but priorities soon shifted, and the people of the belt found their resources drained to terraform a faraway world they would likely never see.
