As some of you were likely not wondering: “Gee, whatever ever happened to that girl who was always posting about dobermans??” “Is she okay?, Did she ever get the dog of her dreams???” “What is she even up to?”

Fear not! I am here to answer all your nonexistent questions!

My life has been rather hectic lately, after I graduated college I got a college working at a YMCA camp and I normally work around 10-12 hours a day, sometimes more. I did not get a dobe, as I just don’t have the money or time for a dog at this stage in my life, but I still have that goal of owning one soon enough. Right now, as a part of my job I get to work with the camps hobby farm and mainly care for our rabbits. I absolutely love my job and getting to teach kids outdoor education is very fulfilling!

About 4 million dogs dying in shelters every year, apparently.

No reason to get a dog from a breeder unless it is going to be a working dog. And even then, you can often make a working dog out of a rescue.

i know how important it is for shelter animals to have a home, i got my lovely cat from the shelter a few months ago and she’s amazing. i’ve only ever had mixed breeds or dogs from shelters, and none of them have fit my needs in what i want from a dog. i need a sturdy, socialized puppy that has known genetic background and health tested parents. i can’t get that from a shelter dog, because guess what: they’re not all the same!!!

dogs from responsible breeders don’t end up in shelters, they don’t contribute to the shelter population. it’s because of people who impulse buy dogs from craigslist or a family member, or from strays that were unplanned from the beginning. 

saying they’re all the same contributes to the fact that 30% of shelter dogs that are adopted are returned because people don’t do their research. instead of pushing an “only adopt” agenda, maybe try to educate people that there ARE options, and to do it responsibly and after thorough research. Because there are also a ton of shitty shelters out there that don’t care about screening or finding good homes and will sell unhealthy mutt puppies for $800.

it’s not as black and white as you think it is, and saying there should only be one option just makes you look ridiculous.

I know a lot more breeders who do actual work to get dogs out of shelters and into appropriate homes than adopt-don’t-shoppers.

Oh man this is so true. You know who found Murdock and donated the majority of his fundraiser? Dogo Argentino breeders and enthusiasts. Every day these people are working to pull Dogos from bad situations and rehome them.

I didn’t get a single penny from “adopt don’t shop” people. Stop using a catchphrase and alternative facts to justify your superiority complex.

Are you interested in a natural dobe or one that's cropped/docked and why? Sorry if you've been asked this, but I've never seen a natural one in person, and it doesn't seem as popular ): (I think they're just as cute)

Sorry it's taken me a few days to answer this, for some reason I don't get notified if I get an ask.As for natural or cropped/docked i will most likely have a cropped/docked Doberman when I'm able to get one. I really like the look of both and one day I do hope to have a natural dobe, but for my first one it probably won't happen because I'd like to get a showline dobe from a responsible breeder and responsible breeders breed to standard, which is that Dobermans are cropped and docked. You'd be pretty hard pressed to find a responsible breeder that will let a pup go naturally (which is why most dobes you see are all c/d) and the ones that do are workingline breeders, which I'm not planning to get for my first dobe for a variety of reason. If I really wanted I could easily go to a byb or rescue and get a natural puppy or dog but I'm pretty set on a responsible breeder for a variety of reason including titling, health testing (which is sooo important in this breed), knowing what to expect temperament wise, and so on. This is really long winded, but I'm with ya in that i'd love to see more well bred natural dobes, but the current AKC standard won't really let that happen.

So since it will likely be another year until I can actually get my own dog, I’m thinking about fostering a dobe. I think it could be really helpful for me to learn a bunch of hands on stuff without the lifetime commitment (and a bunch of money out of my pocket while I’m still getting on my feet)

I was just looking for some foster stories/experiences if anyone is willing to share! Do rescues normally cover vet costs?

Not the very first to try it, but potentially the very first all natural doberman to be awarded anything in the AKC conformation ring. She did not get points as she was the only bitch. Still, all others that have tried (that we are aware of) have been dismissed or denied award due to having a tail. Phoenix is owned, handled, and loved by Meejin Pike of Firefly Dobermans, bred by Bell'Lavoro (for @dogwithupears, bred by the same woman who produced Payton).
