Iâm breathing, but why?
â Hela, Thor: Ragnarok (2017) dir. Taika Waititi
Heâd noticed the glamor, it didnt sit well with him as to why she would waste such energy in hiding her form. Heâd never thought anything wrong with his children or their various forms. True they had all been babes all born the same way, all the same small squalling infants. Fenrir had spent to long in wolf form though and Jormungandr preferred his form. It happened with shapeshifters sometimes. It was perhaps a reason why he spent his time in every different aspect so as not to get stuck.Â
âJust because youâre form is that of what it is does not mean you are rendered half dead or any form of deadâ, he responded. âYou are in fact very much alive. But it is good to hear you are fairing quite wellâ, he said as he followed her. He nodded though at her admission of being unfair. He understood that perhaps he was no longer wanted given circumstances. âIt is understandable my childâ, he said though a faint chuckle fell from his lips at Baldr. âYes well he was never interesting even in lifeâ, he mused.Â
He thanked her for the food and drink and sat at the table. The way her subjects seemed to respect and obey her only told him that she was a fair and good ruler. At least there was that. He lifted the goblet and sipped its content. Leaning back in the chair he looked to her.Â
Ah, the question he knew would come. Why? Why had he not visited? What would he tell her? What reason? He set the goblet down and thought for a moment. Lips pressed in thin line as he for once needed his thoughts to say the right words. âI wanted to. Believe me I wanted to. To be honest I could not bare the guilt of you all blaming me for what happenedâ, he said his voice quiet.Â
âI could not bare the thought of my children hating me for something that was out of my hands. Then there was the issue of not being allowed. Even now Iâve no doubts Iâm being watchedâ, he said as he looked at her now. âI know you loathe me Hela, you might think you can hide it but I can see it, smell it, feel it. I know you harbor resentment but I want you to know that if I could have done somethingâŚ. if I could have done something if your mother could have done something donât you think we would have?â, he said as he looked at her now.Â
Hel looked slightly distraught at the answers that she was given. Rage and bitterness had burdened her heart for so long that she didnât want to see any logic in what he presented. He claimed that she had wanted to do something but it was too much for her to cope with. âI do loathe you, I blame you for leaving me alone! I blame you for leaving me here in the dark! I blame you for keeping my brothers from me,â Hel hissed her anger boiling over. She clenched her hands into fists and then closed her eyes for a moment. âI...I think that my mother would have done something,â She admitted. Her mother was a strong woman and would no doubt have torn down the walls of Asgard. âYou? I donât know if you would have done something,â She admitted.Â
Her shoulders were hunched and then bit down on her lip for a moment. Hel was being unfair again but she didnât care at the moment. Years of keeping things to her chest were over. Hel needed to air out her grievances that much was certain. Hel refused to look at her father and then focused on the table. âNot if it meant that you would have to risk your own hide,â She admitted sullenly. She could feel tears hot in her eyes but she didnât let them fall. She was far too proud for that. She blinked quickly and then took a calming breath. She could see that some of the shades around them were getting restless.
Hel then met her fatherâs gaze and scowled at him she did not feel sorry for her words at the moment. âIf you really wanted to save us then you would have,â Hel spoke softly. She then shook her head slightly and ran a hand through her hair. She could feel slight stirrings of guilt but she would not give into it yet. âI am sorry, but you have left Fenrir and JĂśrmungandr to suffer terribly. I may be stuck in the dark but their fates were worse than mine,â Hel spoke gently. Her eyes were soon torn away from her father once more.Â
She then moved so she didnât have to face him. She calmed down and then reached out and drank some of the drink. Her mouth was thinned and then looked around her at the shades. âWill you save them or will you abandon them again? I will protect them in my realm as much as I am able,â She promised. She looked carefully at her father and wondered if he would agree to help. Hel felt that was the only way that he would regain any honour or for her to forgive him. Her eyes were now fixed on him to watch what he would say to her.Â

Starter Call
Like this post for a starter! I am open to OCs and I am open to cross overs, if youâd want to plot thatâs brilliant too!Â
âYou are a f r e e woman.â âThatâs impossible.â âYet it has happened.â
MYTH MEMEÂ â Â ten goddesses: HEL
Hel is a giantess and goddess of the underworld, which is known as Niflheim, or Helheim, the Kingdom of the Dead. Hel is generally presented as being rather greedy and indifferent to the concerns of both the living and the dead. She is the daughter of Loki and Angrboda, sheâs an ugly half-dead hag with gangrene legs and a hideous face. In return for giving her Niflheim, Odin gave Hel certain responsibilities that she had to carry out in that realm. He charged her with caring for the souls of people who had died from sickness or old age, and for the souls of any other people whose deaths had not occurred through violence or in battle.
The anger was there, like her siblings they had inherited that from him. Fenrir had inherited most of it though, the boy had always been in some state of rage even as a babe when he came screaming into the world. Jormungandr had the least though and here his only daughter also carried it. It didnât surprise him though. He would hate himself as well.Â
His gaze fell to the dog a low growl from his own lips, not human, more wolf like than anything as if warning the dog. He fixed his gaze now upon her. He was saddened by her features. Had she been a normal child she would have grown into a beautiful maid. Her motherâs wild beauty mixed with his own. But the Norns had been cruel. The mixing of jotun blood tainted with Ăs had been suspected cause or so he and Angrboda both thought.Â
âThat I am not so sure ofâ, he answered at her inquiry of length of stay. He inclined his head though at her offer. âThat would please me daughter mineâ, he said as he motioned for her to lead. He sighed at the mention of his eldest. âYes, I have seen him. Bound like some sort of monsterous beast. He barely moves but let it not be said my children are weak, he took Tyrâs handâ, he said though there was no joy in that.Â
He stiffened at the mention of the creature. Sleipnir though his child was one that he wished to never mention nor acknowledge. Loki loved his children but he held no feeling for the one he so easily gifted to Odin. The beast had been an unwanted outcome. He could feel the bile form in his throat at the very utterance of its name. âWhat care do I have for Odinâs mountâ, he spoke the nausea building in him.Â
When she wrapped her arms around him he returned the gestured resting his chin atop her head. He could feel the lack of sincerity in it though and it only saddened him. âYes I suppose we doâ, he answered as he almost dreaded it given her tone. âHow are you fairing?â.
Hel took a deep breath and pursed her lips at his words about Sleipnir. She supposed that he would not wish to speak about him or even consider him so she said nothing more. At his question her face was morphed into an expression of anger for a moment only before it smoothed out once more. She didnât want to really answer that question but supposed it would be the polite thing to do and the best course of action. Her glamour dropped to reveal her true features. Half her body was withered and corpse like and half was fair. âI fair as well as someone half dead can,â She spoke softly. She supposed that she was being slightly unfair to him. She didnât put the glamour back up just yet.Â
She moved to walk back towards her hall and she felt a little calmer knowing that she would find comfort in her hall. âI was being unfair...I am well. I have my realm and my subjects. I have Baldr for all the good he does,â Hel spoke. Hel offered her father a thin smile and could feel the wet nose of the wolf press into her hand. Hel was glad that he was here. Garmr was the only companion she had with her here. âIâll try and get you something to eat and drink,â She spoke softly. Hel walked into her hall and felt much better. Shades of dishonoured warriors and the dishonoured dead were close by watching with pale eyes.Â
The hall was brightly lit and had every comfort that any mortal or immortal would need. Hel was making sure that her subjects were treated with the utmost respect and for that they would do anything for her. Hel soon had some decent food and drink for Loki and then set it on a nearby table. She sat down and then took a goblet herself. âI...â She paused. She wasnât sure how she should begin. She found it difficult to talk of her feelings especially with her father.Â
Her mouth was pursed into a thin line and she remained silent for a moment. What she wanted to be able to see her brothers. She wanted to be able to leave the realm behind even for a short time but she knew that was never going to happen. âWhy didnât you come sooner?â She thought sheâd start with.Â

Nature was a domain of peace and prosperity when compared to the concrete jungles that mankind called home. It had been one of the rare days that he had some time to himself, that heâd been allowed to retreat off into one of the far flung hideouts of the woodlands. Everything had been going rather well, the trails had been rather relaxed in their shape and style. Nothing challenging had presented itself just yet. That was until the creeping darkness silenced the song of the woods, birds grew silent, insects suddenly became mute. It was as if everything had suddenly died.
Pale fingers fell to his hip, gripping the hilt of a blade. No demon had followed him, nor was he being tracked. This evil had suddenly appeared out of nowhere, almost as if it was newly born. A part of him was driven towards it, drawn closer with every step as he fell off the beaten path. Gingerly and slowly he approached what appeared to be a woman standing out among the trees.
âAre you alright?â He called out from a ways away, pale blue eyes taking in the creature that rested a few yards away. She was neither demonic nor unholy, still an unnatural darkness clung to her aura. As if death himself had claimed a part of her soul.Â
Hel turned when she heard the voice and her eyes landed on the other. Her face was curious but she didnât say much to begin with. She moved so that she was facing him properly. âI am fine...â She spoke. Her tone was guarded as she let her gaze rest on the other. Her mouth was a thin line but she soon smiled and then let her arms cross over her chest. She would be able to defend herself if needed but she was still new to this realm so she wasnât going to use violence as her first method. âI simply came for a walk...â What she had spoke was only a slight lie but he didnât need to know that was the case. She didnât have the skill her father did when it came to lying but she hoped it wasnât obvious.Â
Her gaze looked up to the trees once more and she could feel the warmth around her and she felt happier than she had been for a long while. Her realm was always cold and friendless. âAm I not supposed to be here?â Hel asked with an arched brow. Her blue eyes were glittering with slight amusement as she moved to lean against the tree to watch the other. She made sure that a basic shield was wrapped around herself for protection. Hel was always expecting some sort of attack on her person.Â
Hel took several deep breaths and then moved so that she was closer to the other with a frown on her brows. She could still sense that strange feeling and he was even stronger. It made her spine shiver and she wanted nothing more than to travel the secret paths and find somewhere else to explore on this realm but for now she managed to control the impulse.Â
