Just got back from 4 days in Hawaii before Clarke starts his new job and before Dolly gets too far along to not be able to fly. We had time to just relax and go with the flow, exploring Honolulu and Oahu’s north shore. Met up with some old Long Beach friends Dan and Tiffany + their kid Julian! We got to try some Hawaiian staples: Malsadas at Leonards, shaved ice at Matsumotos, and some of the best poke we’ve ever had at Maguro Brothers. Our favorite was the garlic shrimp right off the food trucks on the north shore. Feeling recharged & inspired!

Progress Post #8: We’ve spent the last 5 weekends working on our ipe deck. We’re really pleased with how it’s coming together. On some of the hotter days we cooled down with icees from our local ice cream man. Clarke got the tamarind and I got strawberry...tamarindo is the way to go.

Progress Post #7: We hacked these IKEA cabinets to hide the murphy bed! It was a challenge, but we’re really happy with how it turned out. With the interior pieces coming together, the space is finally starting to feel like a home.

Progress Post #6: Kitchen cabinets are done, and after a 7-week delay, our door was finally delivered! We have 4 walls!

Bench Interlude: Clarke made a bench out of the leftover piece of the header beam! He even added a piece of the salvaged redwood as an inlay on the top.

Progress Post #5: Month 4. We have light and it’s awesome! Work is picking up and we are checking things off the list every day. We’ve finished and sealed our concrete floors, built in the base kitchen cabinets, and we started our wood siding with redwood salvaged from the original garage! Our one setback was a winter storm that exposed some serious grading issues. Clarke dug an emergency moat that got the water flowing in the right direction but a more permanent fix has been added to the to-do list.

Progress Post #4: Three months down! It’s been a whirlwind but electrical, plumbing, framing, roofing, insulation, drywall, hot mop, and stucco all passed inspections! We almost have a working studio. On to the finishing work... !
