“Nah, born and raised in Galway.” There was a sense of pride in Dolly’s voice. “Just got ‘ere a month ago, rather like it here actually.”

“That;s how we Irish are,” he agreed with a dip of his head. “We’re born, we live covered in these itchy woolen clothes, hold in our emotions.” He paused and nodded towards his drink. “We drink, then we die.” He laughed to himself. “And our only hobbies are shitting on the British and shearing sheep.”

Dolly snorted with laughter and clinked her glass against his. “Too fuckin’ right!” She laughed a bit more before calming down with a sigh. “So where abouts from this fair isle are ya from love?”

“I think there’s plenty to see,” he told her shaking his head. “There’s a cryptozoology museum in America I’ve had my mind on for a bit,” he said with a smile. “And of course, all the natural wonders and shit on the other side of the planet,” to that he added a flippant flick of his wrist. 

“Never much cared for all that.” Dolly admitted. “I was born Ireland and more than likely I will die here too, the good Lord willin’ of course.” She shrugged. “The world never really held much splendour for me, but then nothin’ much ever really did so no ‘arm no foul.”

“Can’t argue with that logic,” Atlas sighed with a shrug. He watched her order the shots and shook his head. “Nothing good comes outta it,” he agreed. “Just a reminder the world is much bigger than Dublin, humbling and all that.” He narrowed his eyes, before nodding slowly. “You say that with the absolute confidence of someone who never stops for the flowers.”

“The world is big as all shite love, and must of it ain’t worth lookin’ at the stars over.” She knocked back one of the shots before sliding the other over to her companion. “I’ll stop for flowers once I’m dead.”

“I’ve been thinking recently,” Atlas said, speaking to the person who had sat near him. Their mistake. His eyes were stuck on the television above the bar as the Hurling game played on. “I want to drive out of Dublin, mountains probably.” He paused long enough to take a drink from his beer. “I want to get a telescope and go check out the stars.” This had been a recurring thought of his in the last month, to get out and see more. He also knew that because of how he was, he would either fall in love with the stars, or think himself an absolute bonehead for doing it in the first place. “What do you think?” He asked, looking at the person he was subjecting his ramblings to for the first time.

“If ya want my honest opinion love it sounds like ya need another drink.” She signalled the bartender to pour two more shots. “Why ya wanna stare at stars anyways? What good will come of that? Just have ya drinks and then go ‘ome, ya enjoy the stars from there too.”

“Ya can pay me back by buyin’ me a drink.” Dolly grinned, her eyes twinkling. “Now onto shoe shopping! This place looks alright.” She directed Val into the nearest shoe store, not at all bothered by the looks the two were getting.

Valerie laughed, looking up to the girl and back down to his own feet. “Nah, I just felt that I looked like I was crazy out here. At least I’m wearing cute socks today, yeah?” He asked, looking down to the brightly colored striped socks. 

“Those socks are nice.” Dolly conceded. But this really was beginning to be too much. “‘Ere, let me buy ya some new shoes yeah? Just so ya don’t look so insane.”
