Character Sheets and character creation →
When creating a character, there’s a lot of questions you ask yourself. Whether it’s an original character or one you’ve been playing for a long time, using a character sheet to get to know your character better can always be a nice idea. With it’s help, you’ll be able to think about things you didn’t necesarily thought about, and ask some important questions to yourself that might activate your character’s voice, or help you to get your muse back with them. Everyone has their favorite character sheets, some people prefer to have a lot of questions, some others like it a bit more vague, so here’s a masterlist of the character sheets I found on various websites and found quite interesting, plus some other things that could be used to help you see, for example, how other character view yours.
Blank Character Sheet (+370 Questions)
Abridged Character Sheet (100 Questions)
Big-Ass Character Sheet
Character Creation Form
Character Sheet by Jody Hedlund
Creating a character Bio Sheet
Character Analysis Worksheet
100 Character Development questions for writers

Detailed Character Sheet
Character Sheet Template
Character Twenty-Question Worksheet
In-Depth Character Sheet
Character Worksheet
Character Interview Sheet (First Person)
Background Questionnaire (First Person)
Characters Perceptions (How do other people perceive your character?)
With these sheets, you could also try to find your character’s Jung and Enneagram Type or use the Moral Alignment tool. All of these things can be really useful to get a better grip on a character.
Then, if you’re trying to create a character, and do not have many ideas, or get stuck, I’d suggest for you to roam around TVTropes, which gives you a lot of tropes used for character creation. Maybe you could try to mix a few of these and create an original character?
Or, if you’re a skillful writer and know how to make your character different from another, make a list of characters in fiction you happen to find interesting and why. Try to keep it short. Then, maybe, try to mix and match things from two or three characters, take a character and change their backstory, to see what would change. Play with them to inspire yourself and create something new, original and truly yours.
Oh, and here’s a little guide to Mary-Sues and OCs, just in case you want to make sure your character isn’t going to become a Mary-Sue or a Gary-Stu
And last but not least, this article about building fictional character definitely seemed interesting to me, and is full of many other links that could guide you during the creating of your character and help you file one of these sheets.
I feel like the fandom wank is missing a vital point that was highlighted last night:
Tim forgiving Rachel for ghosting him, agreeing to be friends with one another, not needing closure...
This is EXACTLY what he's not able to do with Lucy.
Of course he can do it with Rachel (he reminds her he doesn't even need it, it doesn't factor into his life even if they do keep seeing each other around) BECAUSE RACHEL DOESN'T MATTER TO HIM LIKE LUCY DOES.
All the things Rachel said - closure, friendship, forgiveness... Chenford haven't managed to do that yet. They look like they're friends, but the only time we saw them outside work together at the food trucks, they nearly died of mortification when Nolan left them on their own. The very things Rachel got so easily, they can't get to because it's too important to do wrong, and they're frozen in their pre-relationship work collegiality.
If Tim could give Lucy that honest conversation; if Lucy could trust him enough to let her guard back down; if they could both acknowledge the hurt and find a way to build a bridge, then we might be getting somewhere. But they're gonna need some sort of shake up for that to happen.
And (thank all the goddesses) I'm excited to see that come down the line, however it rolls out!

Lucy turned around and standing there just as stoic as always was her ex-boyfriend, former TO, tentative coworker, and current love of her life.

Hello. I recently came to your page from a friend. I love your master list of the stelena stuff. I’m like halfway finished. It’s funny, on all the questions i mostly agree lol with all your responses. You answer them with such high intelligence. I did a search on your page on a show called Friday Night Lights and saw your responded to a few asks. The episode I’m on is when Matt has like a breaking point and coach drags him in the show and has the water hitting him. All Matt says is “everyone leaves me”. I guess what I’m asking Is, how do you feel the writers portrayed his character and his strugggles and do you like Matt with Julie? Thank you and have a wonderful day.
Ooh a Friday Night Lights question and about Matt no less, one of my faves. I thought the show did a wonderful job showing Matt and his struggles, I mean this sort of encapsulates his character
and you see his maturity particularly in relation to Julie who has the “luxury” or the privilege of a normal adolescent life, which Matt does not and a great example of this is when his father does return and they have this conversation
because Julie has a kind of typical teenage response to his problem
but Matt doesn’t
and then you know there are the episodes where you see how much love there is between him and his grandmother
but it’s difficult looking after by himself as a teenager
and when he tries to do teenage things like go on a date or meet Julie at the library, taking care of her and his adult responsibilities interfere directly with that
and you know in the beginning of the relationship he made some mistakes with Julie but for the most part, he’s been understanding and he’s been accommodating and he’s been a great boyfriend and she essentially leaves him because she got restless with his stability
and he has a father who just genuinely just doesn’t want to be in Dillon with his son
and then he had a father figure in Eric who gives him the encouragement and affection
he doesn’t get from his own father
who also left the team and therefore him and his mother left when he was a child and then Carlotta goes back to Guatemala and then you know even on the field, he’s not Jason Street and then Voodoo comes and he has to compete for his spot and then that new quarterback kid I forget his name comes and takes his spot, there is this relentless feeling of being second best and/or not good enough that Matt both exhibits the heartbreak of in a few moments but mostly represses because he doesn’t like feeling negative emotions,
and he also wants to be there for his grandmother so yeah, there’s going to be a final straw and it’s going to come out it in some kind of release, I think it makes absolute sense that it comes out through him drinking and having an attitude
because he’s tired but most of all he’s sad which is what that scene really conveys, he’s just really, really sad
Matt is a beautifully written and portrayed character and I rarely get defensive of characters but I would get defensive of him.
I don’t particularly like Julie as an individual character but I love her relationship with Matt, they’re adorable

I am on the fence about Lucy and TO thing. She really deserves a career that she can choose and not kind of a rebound career. I really want the writers to explore her mind about what she will do after failing detective's exam and I really really don't want her to be handed solutions from anyone.
And on top of that I don't want her reduced to be 1/2 of Chenford. With that in mind I NEED A HELL LOT OF MORE LUCY'S OWN PLOTS.
The thing that made me fall for Rookie, Lucy and Chenford was her very kick ass undercover story, where she, well, kicked ass. I want her back being good at her job and not only reduced to anxious (which she for sure falls into every now and then).
Say it louder 🙌🏽
The crazy thing is they put Lucy through SO much and do so little with it (DOD, Jackson, deciding to do UC work and all the implications of that FOR HER (not Tim), the bio dad SL, Rosalind’s return, the detective exam / her generally stalled career, dating her superior in a male-dominated job, being [brutally] dumped, Tamara moving out, a near fatal shooting resulting from a high risk decision she made, etc etc).
I’m going to be BEYOND disappointed if she’s just a supporting character to Tim’s arc and Chenford the rest of the season.

My issue with the way they’re writing Lucy’s career advancement, stems from how they wrote Nolan’s advancement. Lucy and Nolan started out the same time but Nolan gets treated better because he’s “a good guy.” “He’s not like the other boys.” “ He’s someone you can talk to.” “He’s older and has life experience.”
Honestly if he was a TO without getting a golden ticket, I would’ve been fine with it. But nooooo the “main character” has to get the golden ticket. He’s doing a terrible job as a TO but he still gets praised. He gets praised for disrespecting orders too. He gets treated as an equal to Tim, Nyla and Angela. That in itself is wild considering that Lucy and Aaron are closer to being his equal.
It boils down to it’s not fair how Lucy’s career is treated versus Nolan’s. It gets me heated each time I think about it. I could say something about how gender and race play a role in this but I don’t have the energy to debate that.
One more thing/rant…
I missed Jackson so much this season, mainly because I feel like Lucy has no support. I feel like she has had so many hits this season, one after another, but we barely know how she is dealing with any of that. (Lazy/poor writing-we don’t have time for that because we have to follow Monica around for 2 fucking episodes and a crazy slew of non relevant bad guys, instead 🙄). I feel like she has been so isolated and feel like none of the other characters seem to give a shit about the hits she took (Looking at Nolan, Angela and Nyla). Each story and hit was just dropped and never acknowledged again (again poor writing). She got teased by the entire station, 17th in detective’s exam (probably due to being blocked by Primm), she shot someone (that dude alive or dead, anyone know?-it’s like it never happened), Tim dumps her (anyone ask how she is, no, we rally around Tim instead).
Instead Melissa has to defend in an interview that she other friends outside of work.
I am glad we got to see badass Lucy Chen again though.
Question for discussion re Lucy's career in light of Chenford
In his interviews, Alexi kept mentioning S1, how Lucy was with Nolan and they made it clear even back then that female cops in relationships with other cops will pay the price with their career. And he said that they can't just ignore that now, that would be a 'cop out' (heh).
So is all of this - Lucy's current predicament - just because they're being stubborn and sticking to what they wrote 7 years ago?
Or are they saying to the shippers, ok you can have chenford but it will cost you Lucy's career? (Except right now we have neither 😫)
Also if it's such a big issue for women cops, why not devote a couple episodes to it? Call it out and how unfair it is and try to fix the system, instead of just being resigned to it because that's just how it is.
(and yes I know Lucy made it a little worse than just dating a fellow cop with her 5 player trade but still. If she was a guy it probably wouldn't have mattered.)
What do you think? And what are ways they could address the topic head on and have Lucy come out on top and maybe also make a difference for future female cops?
