the idea that self-harm urges can and do manifest in sexual ways and that feeling a compulsion to do something isn’t the same as healthy enjoyment are revolutionary concepts and tbh just examining, identifying, and acknowledging the forces at play in your own relationship with sex can help make that relationship a healthier one.

like even just understanding, ‘the reason i feel like doing x thing is bc i’m feeling worthless/triggered/etc and i don’t know where to go with that feeling except to feel a more immediate pain/make someone else feel good at my expense/etc’ – just that understanding helps even if you still do the thing.

because now you KNOW that you’ve just self-harmed and that’s why you feel like you do about it. now you KNOW why you felt a compulsion to do this thing, now you can identify the specific needs you don’t yet know how to fill in a healthy way.

and that’s a start. and it’s so much better than doing sexual stuff that makes you feel worthless or like just an empty body etc etc and feeling so empty or wrong after and not knowing why or even fetishizing that feeling for further self harm in this endless cycle that never quite works out to a healthy relationship with your own sexuality
