donatella aquato has gripped me in ways you cannot imagine. i am obsessed with her. sometimes i will draw a different character but if you follow me you're signing up for 99.9% donatella fanart. also a lot of donagus fanart. and also the kids i do draw them on occasion.

The way raz says “really, why?” To donatella saying she blames herself for raz running away is so interesting to me because he sounds genuinely confused as to why she would blame herself. While her answer is just another gag expressing how she’s clueless about her actual culpability and how overprotective she is I do think it’s telling that Raz seems surprised because to me it says that even Raz doesn’t blame his mom for why he ran away. Her attitude almost definitely added to the atmosphere that forced Raz to leave, but to Raz he’s viewing it as the one incident being the kicker and the reason being his dad.

Donatella’s next steps are like.

1. Very loudly express to your children that you love them and trust them and they can use their psychic powers and it’s all good. Even though you’re still sick with worry every time they’re out of your sight. They can take care of themselves you just need to start believing that.

2. Stop insisting the curse was real and listen to your son’s explanation. Realize it was all fake. You did all that shit for no reason. There was no danger.

3. Anger.

4. Don’t kill that old man. You can’t kill that old man. No. Don’t. You can’t go to prison, Donatella. Don’t do it.

5. Apologize to everyone. Also you still aren’t allowed to kill that old man.

6. Water spectacular. O by Cirque du Soleil eat your heart out.

Anyways I do think Donatella will probably be the first to apologize to Raz but I do think she still has to process what happened and the fact that, even though she felt justified in her parenting thinking that it was the only thing keeping her children safe, it was still harmful. So like, it’s gonna be a process. She still hasn’t even accepted the fact the curse wasn’t real what do you want from her

#like shes coming around. but that’s a lot of deconstructing to do #you gotta remember she didn’t have a meat circus moment. it’s a different process for her #shes showing raz that she trusts him and giving him freedom first but she has to work on her viewpoints

Real talk I think a lot of people get hung up thinking the fact the aquatos didnt verbally outright apologize to raz is a plot hole or loose threads when I think it’s intentional and makes sense. I don’t think it would make sense for this family who have intensely messed up inter-dynamics and inability to communicate their feelings to suddenly be able to communicate their regret overnight. I think, while they may eventually apologize, they did just experience horrific trauma and are trying to redirect years of backwards thinking in order to fix their family, so that’s their immediate priority. They’re messy people, the healing process is not going to be as straightforward or linear as you might want it to be.

If the game ended with Dion going “hey raz my baby brother I’m so sorry for what I did to you” then I would be like who the hell is that

Anyways all this to say it doesn’t mean they’re NOT sorry, I just don’t think apologies are the end all be all of making things up to someone and I think actions speak louder. And actions are clearly happening.

#IN FACT THERE IS A LINE WHERE DION APOLOGIZED BUT IT WAS BC HE WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF BOTTLED EMOTIONS #YOU WOULD HAVE TO LITERALLY FORCE HIM TO OVERLOAD ON FEELINGS TO GET THE WORDS OUT #anyways this is like the biggest hang up I see people have with the aquatos and I think we need to like. examine who they are

wait sorry pausing my archeology session because i saw the dialogue in the tag.

i think donatella may have seen nona lucid more times than augustus has. because augustus clearly views her as very frail and another family member he has to protect, while donatella clearly thinks she can handle herself. i think this honestly might be a side effect of what ford did to her where she's specifically playing up a role when it comes to augustus but with donatella she was not part of the original programming and maybe there's more room for her to snap out of it in front of her.

#which also makes more sense with how donatella thinks she's very odd
