veritycalma:
Leave it to Benito to make an already horrible situation even worse. There she was, falling apart at the seams in front of him, and the only thing he seemed to do was ignore that with a solution that benefitted nobody but himself. “Did you not hear me?” Standing up from her place on the curb, rage filled eyes staring him down—disbelief being the forefront of all of it. “I’m not going anywhere. I said I wanted to find my friends and I want to stay with them. I’m going to stay with them.” Her hands rising up to wipe tears as they fell, even as more replaced them. It was no wonder the only emotion Verity was able to successfully express was anger. It was the only one that seemed to get anyone to listen to her. “If you want to leave then you’re more than welcome to, but I’m staying. You might not care about anyone else here, but I do. Get the hell of out my face and go since you want to leave so badly. Nobody is stopping you.”
"Here we fucking go again.” Benito was tired of her bullshit. Done with her irresponsible and entitled behavior who thought that she could do whatever just because she felt like it. “Had your friends gave a fuck about where the hell you were they would have been here looking for you too. But who the heck showed up?” His arms opened wide to motion to nobody else having thought of her in this situation. No one but him. Not Kat, nor her other so called friends, and most definitely not that little boyfriend she kept walking around on a leash like a pet. “I never said you had to leave them behind, I asked if after you knew they were ok if we can get out of this place. FOUR,” He raised four fingers up, “of your ‘friends’ were murdered tonight. Not one, or two. Four! And not for one moment you think that perhaps your brother may need you for a chance?” He didn’t want to fight her. Those words continued to haunt his brain from the moment he sat there with her, but that all seemed to be going out the door. “Family used to mean something to us once in a while. Not just get me a new apartment.” He turned to away from her.
veritycalma:
…
Her shoulders slump slightly as the sound of her brother’s voice—relieved. Nothing had happened to him, he was okay. It was silly to think of, knowing that he’d probably been in far worse situations than what happened here tonight, but her mind couldn’t help but wander to the what ifs. What if something happened to him? What if he would’ve been in one of those body bags? The thought alone being enough to have Vera’s heart racing, fingers clenching even tighter. “I’m not going anywhere,” she answered, immediately shaking her head at his statement. “Hana, Kat, Chi, Lu.. I need to see them. I’m not leaving without knowing that they’re okay.” Okay being an understatement, but the first word that came into her mind. She wanted to be there for them. Her best friends. “I can’t leave them.” But even as the words came rushing out, Verity could feel her voice cracking—could hear it. Those tears that she had been trying to hold back finally making their way down her cheeks. Crumbling right before her brother’s eyes. The only person she’d ever let herself break down before. Making it clear that she needed them. Aside from Benito, they were the only family she’s ever had since moving to Nightrest. Losing Monty hurting just as much as it had when they lost their father. Their mother.
-
It wasn’t anything that he didn’t already know. Before he even approached her, he knew that she was going to defy his wishes even in times where he simply wanted to keep her safe. For all of her life, he had been there to praise her efforts and lather her in comfort when things did not go her way. Benito didn’t know how to make her understand that at this moment he just needed to know she was safe. Being out here in the middle of a crowd with police officers all over and four or five dead bodies found made him anxious. His heart was heavy, and his body sweating because he could not in that moment protect her. They were exposed to anything malignant and anyone with the smallest vendetta. “There’s so many people here V.” Was all that he could get out for a moment. “Do you just want to see them quick? Can we head out after?” The entire situation was making him dizzy, and his mouth dry. He didn’t know how to control these emotions. He couldn’t care less for those killed, or the injured, or even his closest friends, he just wanted her out. “I haven’t seen any of them. Do you know where they are.” The faster they found them, the faster they could leave. Those words continued to repeat in his head as he stood once more and began looking at the faces around them. “Let’s make sure they’re ok.” He did not want to fight her.
She glared at him half-heartedly as he stole the drink, rolling her eyes when he finally gave it back. “That’s why it’s not your drink, idiot,” she muttered, but she nodded to the machine in the corner. “Knock yourself out.” At his words, they gave a dry chuckle, taking another sip of their coffee. “I’d be right there with you, you know that.” With a pause, they cocked their head. “Do you have any guesses as to who might be doing all of this?”
"Don't be a meanie, Ruby." He spoke, pretending to be offended by her words, "I am a quest here. I shouldn't have to go make my own coffee." He pouted as he finished speaking, but got up off the couch. "At first I assumed it was nothing more than an angry lover or Louis, or some bullshit like that. But this thing isn't letting up." Finally having grabbed himself a cup of coffee he turned back towards her, "It makes me question if this whole thing is more political than anything else. You know?"

“Thanks for the drink,” Jake let out softly, offering Benito a light smile. With everything that happened, in the few moments where his time wasn’t occupied with someone else who’d felt the pain he did, Jake wished he could forget how it felt. Losing his best friend was something he’d never imagined, the same fears he’d had when Monty was in an accident coming true. And for a second, just for a second, he wanted to be selfish and forget everything he’d lost. Forget everything that he himself had been put through. “And for the car too… I never got around to thanking you for that, even though you really didn’t have to.”
-
“No problem.” Benito said, stepping back and grabbing the stool next to him. With everything going on in town, Benito was surprised to see his dear Jacob pop in to see him. In truth the two haven’t spoken in a while since before the fires had started but he could tell that there was a lot in his mind. The boy before him seemed aged or dried up emotionally. “Ah, don’t mention that.” Benito swatted at the air, “It was the least I could do after not having gone up there to see you. It was nothing.” He took a swig of his bourbon before continuing, “What’s brought you around these corners today?”
“Hey, you.” She sighed, shaking her head as she took a small sip of the drink in her hand. Coffee, unfortunately—not liquor, as her hangover the other night was bad enough to keep her from that for a few days at least. “I bet.” They pursed their lips, staring out at the landscape in front of them. “When is it going to end?” they murmured.
“Got any more of that for me?” He motioned towards her coffee, then proceeded to take it off her hands. “A bit stronger, I’d say.” He took a sip before handing it back to her. “Please, and thank you.” Benito could not help but sign at her question, “I don’t know, but I can assure you that if anything happens to Verity this entire town will go down. I don’t mind dealing with the collateral damage.”
deanhadwin:
“That’s one way to put it,” but he was right, as much as Dean didn’t want that to admit it. They had no idea who to watch out for or who the next victim would be. “They didn’t do shit the first time, doubt they’d do now,” maybe it’s time for them to declare defeat, get used to people dying until they got bored or leave Nightrest. “I don’t know, weird? Should get used to it though, looks like this won’t stop anytime soon,” his brought the glass to his lips, emptying it again and filled both. “You? Did you know any of them?”
-
Benito took a swig, “Just make sure that you’re well prepared for any situation really. It’s why I got security on most all my properties. And the ones that don’t I usually have bodies in site.” If everyone had guns in the town, there wouldn’t be such a dramatic number of deaths. Or so he would assume not. Most people now a day’s were to scared to hold a weapon to the point that they allow themselves to get mugged and killed. “I knew a few of them certainly. Mostly because they were closed with my sister, but that’s about all. You know I don’t go out of my way to meet every Tom, Dick, and Harry.”

This was their personal version of hell, that’s what Dean gathered from everything. Nothing else made sense. Someone wanted them to suffer, that was it. Why? He could care less at this point, the only thing he wanted was to see whoever was doing this go through the same thing. Suffer in their own hell before life slowly leaves their eyes. “Don’t even know what to talk about,” he sighed, pouring himself yet another drink. “What are we supposed to do now?”
“Sit around like turkey’s in November.” Benito spoke without a trace of amusement in his tone, yet the words did make him want to scuff. He knew, though, that the time was more inappropriate then not. His friend needed someone to talk to, and he was more than willing to sit and listen to him. “I don’t think the pigs know what to do themselves, let along tell us anything.” He coughed after taking his shot then continued, “How are you doing?”

“Glad to see you’re not dead.” Benito walked up to the girl and sat besides her. He didn’t bother pretending to be upset over the deaths, as Ruby knew him too well. He’s been surrounded by death since he was a child, and although bothersome these deaths were nothing if not an inconvenience to him. “I’m starting to become really annoyed with this place.”

There she sat on the curb outside of Rhee’s diner. Red and blue lights from the police cars reflecting on her face, the sound of those who surrounded her muffled out as Vera remained seated—lost in her own thoughts. One of the body bags from the night containing one of her closest friends. Someone she’d grown to love. Someone who had been more family than friend. Monty was gone. He was one of the five dead. Five people gone in a blink of an eye; unexpected. Unaware. Five people in one night. Ten people in total. How did they get here? How was it possible that it had gotten this far? So many lost by the hands of people who continued to go unnoticed. No indication of who was behind it.
Tears burned the rim of her eyes. Fueled more by the rage that was igniting with her—fist clenching and unclenching, furious. The longer Verity thought about everything that’s happened, the more pissed she seemed to grow. She wanted yell. To hit something. And yet, all she could do is sit there. No outlet or release. Just her, her thoughts and the blur of those who surrounded her.
Benito had taken a good time to wait for most of the people to rush and leave the building so that he had some time to scope out the area. He was surprised at how brave this murderer was in attacking so many people in the middle of a party. For sure the person had to have been there and simply slipped away to come back like nothing happened. He couldn’t trust anybody, and most certainly needed to get himself as well as his sister away from this place. Without a second thought he began looking around and pushing through people so he could find Verity.
When he did found her, he knew he had to approach her carefully. Most of these people whom had died had been her friends for most of her life. These were people that she hung out with, and spent most of her time with while he was elsewhere. “V?” He approached and sat beside her on the curve. “I know that it’s probably the last thing you want to hear, but can we get out of here? We don’t know who’s behind these murders or even if they are still hiding around here” He wanted to put as much distance as he could between her and the people of this town. Wanted nothing more than to pick her up and ship her to an entire different state if he could, but he knew she would never abandon her friends. He held no loyalty for any of them but her, but she was different.

It had been a while since their last encounter, and Benito couldn’t help but make her way towards the women. Grabbing his drink from the bar, he made his way straight towards her looking around to see if he caught Nicola around as well. He hadn’t seen her in a while, and wanted to make sure she was doing well after the fires. “How’s it going?”

"Let me get some cognac on the rocks.” Benito asked the bartender as he took a seat. Glancing to the right, he noticed a beautiful women beside him with what seemed to be a watered down cocktail. “And another of whatever she’s having.” He continued, before turning his attention to her. “Benito Calma.” He extended his hand out to her. Something about her seemed familiar, but he couldn’t tell if they had met before or not. “You look. . . ravishing.”

Benito walked around the bar with his drink in his hand. He had gotten there late, and hasn't really found anybody that he wanted or rather felt like speaking to yet. As he scanned around his eyes locked with Yuto, and he made his way towards the other man. "Been here long?" He asked settling in beside him.

B: Most definitely. Get Mr. Lukas to come out too, that little booger. B: Yeah, I’m still messing around to see what would work, and whether the girls would like to do it as well. B: Get some business in the door and maybe some extra cash for em.
S: I’ll tell him! S: It’s a really good idea, Benny! Look at you and that big brain of yours S: Will you being to Rhee’s? I couldn’t care less about basketball but I wanna see what all the hype is about
B: Yes, I should be there soon. B: Had a couple of errands to run and then I'll be on my way. B: I'm supposed to meet up with Dean over there as well. Maybe we could catch a table together. B: Are you there already?

B: Heyo Deana, did you make it to the bar yet? B: How's the score looking? B: I'll be heading there soon, just got to see to a few things first

B: Nah, nah. Don't make excuses for me. I do have a cellphone. I need to take you out for breakfast one of these days. Bright and early, maybe over at the beach.
B: It really has been. I don't know how much more I could take of the incompetence of the pigs.
B: Crazy crazy. I've been thinking of having like a chill night at the club. Maybe an amateur's pole dancing lesson free to the public. Something to liven up the town a bit, and give the girls a bit of time to enjoy themselves as well.
S: I'd love that a lot, Benny. Can't wait to catch up with you over some good breakfast. At the yacht club? Our usual table?
S: That sounds really good, actually. I don't know if I know anyone who'd take a pole dancing lesson but hey, it sounds fun, and it's free too so there'll definitely be a few takers. Maybe after the March Madness thing?
B: Most definitely. Get Mr. Lukas to come out too, that little booger. B: Yeah, I'm still messing around to see what would work, and whether the girls would like to do it as well. B: Get some business in the door and maybe some extra cash for em.

her first attempt of trying to catch the benito calma was a failure. hye-jin did not know what went to her head, thinking he'd be in sirens at this hour. she looked over at her phone, sighing as she realized that he actually told her his whereabouts. thankfully, his location would not require her to be on her bike for more than half an hour.
soon enough, she was gliding through his neighborhood and immediately spotted him. "there you are." she says, now getting off of her bike. "job's done, by the way." her arm extended towards him, handing paper bags that has food container, money, and weapons in it. "i hope you enjoy korean cuisine." she grinned mischievously.
Benito honestly didn't know whether to laugh or send her straight to an asylum as she rode down his street on a bicycle like a ten year old child as if she weren't carrying illegal weapons on her. "Where else would I be?" He asked her tilting his head to side. He had told her earlier that day that he'd be waiting for her at his house.
"Yum." He exaggerated taking the paper bag and feeling it's weight. Did she really place a gun in a paper bag? At this he smiled and turned to walk towards his front door once more, "Get inside before I close the door." He said taking a look around his neighborhood to ensure no one had followed her. "What did you end up getting us for lunch?" He asked, taking the items out of the bag and placing them on his countertop.
