summary: prince youngmin chooses you to be his personal maid
word count: 1,025
warnings: humiliation
It was so unbearably hot in the town square. Heat ricocheted off of the concrete ground making everything a little more miserable as time went on. Sweat poured down your back and face, making you look like a mess but you weren't alone. Other people looked as bad or even worse than you did. You tried to cool yourself off by fanning a piece of paper in your face, but nothing helped.
"Are you okay?" Daehwi, your friend of nearly 16 years, peers into your eyes. His eyebrows were furrowed in the middle and lips pursed in a straight line.
"Yeah," You shake your head, the air going through your hair felt good, "I just wish Prince Youngmin would hurry up and come on."
Daehwi pokes your stomach, "Are you that excited to see if you were one of the thousand girls to be picked as Prince Youngmin's personal maid?"
You bat his hand away, "I'm not excited because he is attractive like most girls are. I'm more nervous because I need this money," Daehwi nods in agreement, "Could you imagine how well my family will live off the weekly paycheck? God, I need this."
Growing up poor was usual in your county. Your county, Macazonia, wasn't the richest of all of the counties. It has its rich areas but the poor outweighed the rich tenfold.
You grew up in the really poor part of the county along with Daehwi. You went to the poor school, the poor supermarket, and the poor mall. The poor were never allowed to mingle with the rich. It was just apart of life.
Until today that is. There were poor and rich people alike crowding the center of the town, all waiting for Prince Youngmin to deliver the news of a lifetime.
After waiting for another couple of minutes in the sweltering heat, a long, dark-colored limo pulled up and the town center erupted into shrill screams. Even Daehwi popped up from his seat on the ground to see Prince Youngmin in the flesh. Your hands started to sweat more and it wasn't because of the heat, the nerves of the whole situation started weighing down on your shoulders.
Prince Youngmin gets out of the limo, shrieks of women and men alike bounced off the concrete walls, and he steps up on the little stage built for him. He taps the microphone and clears his throat before speaking clearly.
"Hello, citizens of Macazonia!" He exclaims brightly, smile blinding everyone, "It has come to my attention we will be selecting one of you from the audience to be my personal maid. It would be an honor to have anyone of you serve me and that is why I am here to choose the piece of paper with the fateful name on it."
You scoff and roll your eyes, tapping Daehwi on the shoulder, "Doesn't it sound like he is talking about an object? An honor? How rude..." Daehwi looks over at you, eyes wide and staring at you with shock.
You look around to see all of the people around you looking with either a snarl or scoff toward your direction.
"What?" Sass penetrates your tone when some of the women start talking about you.
"Y-you... were chosen!" Daehwi pinches your arm and pushes you towards the stage where Prince Youngmin was standing with his large hand extended. He pulls you up on the wooden stage with a forced smile and lifts your arm up like you were some victor.
"My new personal maid!" The town center applauded as you stood in shock.

The limo door closes abruptly after you were shoved in the back. Prince Youngmin scoffs immediately and crosses his arms over his chest.
"I don't get why we need to do something as idiotic and childish as hire a personal maid for me!" He punches the empty space between you two.
His butler smiles softly and calmly states, "If you weren't such a hell rod that needed constant attention and supervision we wouldn't have this problem," Your eyes widen as the two banter back and forth.
"What is a stupid maid going to help?" You whip your head around to face him.
"I am not stupid! I'll have you know I'm just doing this for-" His hand covers your face, halting your sentence midway through.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Save it for later, pauper."
Pauper?! Is it the 1800s? What have I gotten myself in to? You thought, leaning your head against the window
-
The palace was magnificent. Gold crested chandeliers hung from the ceilings. The floors were all marble that was so clean you could almost see your reflection in it. Everything was so huge and grand you couldn't help but rotate in your spot to take everything in.
"Are you a rotisserie chicken? Why are you spinning around like an idiot?" Prince Youngmin's cold voice puts a halt to your enchantment.
"Excuse me but I have never seen a house, no, a castle like this before. I'm amazed, that's all." Prince Youngmin chuckles a bit before grabbing your wrist and taking you towards the grandiose staircase.
You both start to trek up the spiraling stairs, "I forgot, I picked someone from the poor part of town." You jerk your arm away from his grasp. He wasn't wrong. You were from the poor part of town but the words burned like fire. He looks back at you unimpressed.
"Is being poor so wrong?" You ask and he rolls his eyes.
"Your people are the reason this county is so looked down upon. So, yes, it is wrong." It felt like a punch to the stomach when he said those words.
"Why don't you fix it then, Prince Youngmin? Don't you have all of the power?"
"I wouldn't dare waste my time on the repulsiveness of trying to help the poor when I could be out with the rich, having a good time," Tears fill your eyes as he continuously humiliates you in private, "Now, let's go up to my room and give you your first task."
All the money in the world suddenly seems so useless. You just want to go back home.
