A comic character who hasn’t had a starring role in a story since 2005 is a kind of dead wife
Your friend’s unpublished fic idea is kind of a dead wife
does anyone have a picture of that beautiful letter to the editorial in which a green lantern fan threatens them with exploding the hqs or something like that
It's so much better than just that
there are donna troys everywhere for those with eyes to see
started reading the bartsch translation of the Aeneid and wow. Donna Troy truly is everywhere u look
dip shit you are not turning into the joker. you are barely even turning into the penguin or th e ice guy
I am an unfaithful wife 2 comics
Nothing has made me want to read fantastic 4 comics more than finding my old mf doom cds I can’t even lie
there are 1milllion+ comics and yep you have to read all of them.
what this post is not (❌🚫) saying: you have to read all of the comics from one specific franchise/series/publisher/etc.
what this post is (✅💬) saying: you have to read every comic ever.
the actual order you read comics in doesn't matter as long as you read all of them. as for what the first official comic is and what can be considered a comic, that is more flexible. since there are different interpretations for the definition of a comic, you will have to choose one and read everything that is considered a comic by that definition.
mad at gorbachev not for western propaganda reasons not for his actual policy failings but bc he let the ussr fall and now my favourite obscure teen titans character is defunct.
Was going to make a post where I said that my second order of business when I become editor in chief of dc would be to bring back leonid kovar in a good way (unlike in a bad way as he has been) (second only to Donna solo. Ofc) but upon further reflection idk if that’s possible.
sorry for being such a pre crisis donna backstory hater. It’s just that it’s my truth #mytruth
something about donna being named for the city of troy is like. the way donna’s identity is constantly shifted and torn apart and rewritten really closely resembles the way the city of troy itself is rewritten and destroyed again and again in literature. im thinking specifically of the way it’s reconstructed repeatedly as a kind of ghost city in the aeneid—to borrow goldschmidt’s phrasing, carthage and the other literary cities modelled off troy are “undead” and “always already annihilated”. im still thinking over the way this connects to donna but it really sets a tone for her identity and sense of self that that sort of destruction is written into her very name
#wait wait wait aeneas seeing the depictions of troy on dido's wall#and donna seeing the history of the dcu play out in visions in return of donna troy#here too the praiseworthy has its rewards#and her first memory being of fire and her apartment building being destroyed#and that time when she's forgotten and then wally's memories of her are used to bring her back#but is she still the same person?? or is she the memory of a person?? what's the difference#if you replace every piece of the ship of theseus is it still the same ship#op this is really cool and i'm obsessed now#i do think hmmm how to put this#the *mourning* for troy is an essential part of the aeneid#it's already annihilated but that's part of the metaphor for grief#you're denied a part of the poem where troy exists just as aeneas is denied a world where troy exists#he can't make it exist again and neither can you the reader#it almost lives again as he tells the story and then when he stops telling the story it's gone again#but the story is still a kind of conjured ghost#you can never touch creusa (via @silverwhittlingknife)
Thinking about Donna who values honesty more than anything, who can't know who she is, if she is every single origin story or none....
thinking about donna troy in titans (1999). thinking about only knowing yourself through the lens of someone else. thinking about not remembering most of your life. thinking about not remembering why you loved your husband. thinking about not remembering the little things about your child. thinking about being thankful for him bringing you back to life except was it even you who was brought back? thinking about whether or not you'd even be thankful because how much of you did he really know? thinking about how maybe the real you wouldn't think these things. maybe the real you would be perfectly happy and not angry inside. thinking about how maybe the real you would've hated him but he just thought you were nicer than you were. thinking about how you'll never really know who the real you was. thinking about mourning the loss of yourself while everyone around you thinks you're alive.
