Venezuelan-american with an Iranian boyfriend here. He left because his brother was on death row. His crime was being in a music shop without a t-shirt.

My parents have been here for a generation so not psyched about the assumption that we are here because we are sad our servants were taken away.

My aunt fled because she was accused of being a terrorist on "Con El Mazo Dando," a program I doubt you've heard of but should probably look up. That's the equivalent of being put on a death list.

7 years ago I tried to join my local DSA and was put off by their pro-Maduro stance. I didn't get why you needed to support the regime suppressing Venezuelans to be against American imperialism. I told the story about my aunt and someone characterized her as deserving to be hunted as an enemy of the state.

Maybe leftists shouldn't heap together a whole bunch of different ethnicities and tar them with the same brush. Maybe it's not as anti-racist as they think.
