Recently stories like this started popping up about rentals in Toronto.
The recent rent control debate in Toronto has at least got to be a logical one.
That time Forbes apparently got butt-hurt over a twitter comment I made.
August 2016 Mixtape - Side B is finally available for your listening pleasures.
August was proving to be a bit of a beast so this month's mix is going to be double sided. Side B will be available at the end of the month. In the meantime enjoy.
Last Minute Gifts for under $20
Searching for some last minute gifts for under $20 here’s a list to satisfy your needs.
1) $20 Gift Card for the Bulk Barn with a note that says “Enjoy some Almonds this year”.
2) A used sock with 2 rolls of quarters in it. This is a total win as it has so many uses. You can use the quarters for laundry. You can keep them rolled in the sock and keep it as a weapon. Also so many games you can enjoy like heads or tails. The fun can’t stop with this versatile gift. (This idea is from my friend Mike)
3) The Game of Thrones colouring book with every shade of red pencil crayon or maker. We all know you’ll need some crimson, mauve, maroon, etc.
4) A free copy of your $20 podcast. Just set up a free site on Squarespace. Make sure you choose the template that contains a store and design it based around the podcast you are doing and sell each episode for $20. Then simply steal your favourite interview or interviews and cut and paste your questions with whatever celebrity you’ve chosen answers. Put it on a thumb drive that costs under $20 and have all the info linking to the site. Not only is this a great value but think of how impressed the person will be that you have a very successful podcast. If you can actually convince someone to sponsor it you could even make your $20 back.
Banana Coffee
The combination of a banana flavouring in my coffee has been something I've been thinking about for a while. The process for how to follow through with this idea has eluded me; until now.
Make Your Own Banana Extract/Essence
I had tried doing this with banana flavours and syrups but it always fell short. It never really lived up to the idea of what banana flavoured coffee should taste like. So here's how to make it.
Boil 4 cups of water.
Cut a banana in half length-wise (leave the peel on and you'll probably want to cut off the ends or maybe you don't).
Add to the boiling water, cover and continue to boil for 15-30 minutes (the water should look murky when you're done).
Pull the remainder of the banana out.
Let cool.
Next make your coffee as per your preference (mine is a french press). Fill your coffee cup up to about 2/3 of what you normally do and then fill the remainder with the banana extract and stir.
As always the amounts to add can vary depending on your tastes and the strength of your coffee and extract.

3 Vegetarians Walk Into a McDonalds
My daughter just had her 3rd birthday and coming back from a Toy Store extravaganza that left her less than impressed she requested we go to a restaurant. As it was "her day" my wife and I were inclined to grant her wish. Unfortunately there wasn't many options around and my wife offered the suggestion of McDonalds.
Neither my wife nor I am a fan of fast food or McDonalds in general (although I will admit to a secret admiration of their fries and hashbrowns). I do however remember the joy of going to McDonalds as a child. So not wanting to rob my daughter of the experience, my wife voicing the opinion that she was old enough to go and the proximity to instant gratification and wish fulfillment for my daughter we went.
Did I mention we're all vegetarians? I was a bit concerned as to what kind of "fun" experience this would lead to, but I didn't want to be the bed wetter so I went with it. I had thought some of the food choices would be a problem. I thought maybe the staff's ability to fulfill our order correctly would be a problem. For instance, my wife secretly desires meatless Big Macs for some reason (that's right sugary bread with lettuce and ketchup and mayonnaise - yeah I don't get it either). Let me just say that my concerns shouldn't have been the things I was thinking of. The staff were great and very accommodating.
What I wasn't expecting was the experience of eating with the clientele of the particular McDonalds at that particular moment. While trying to find a seat we found that out of the many available seating areas the people that would vacate would leave the areas a complete disaster. It looked as if it was done on purpose. Almost all tables had ketchup smears everywhere. It almost looked like people were putting ketchup on the table (no not the tray, not the wrappings) for dipping. That's crazy right? Nope saw 3 sets of teens doing just that.
OK so let's swing over to the other side of the restaurant to see what the seating is like over there. My daughter and I had to pass through the queue to get there only to be accosted by two homeless dudes asking for change. I don't really mind this but the problem was how aggressive they were about asking for it and how the staff seemed to treat them like "regulars".
We push past that to find the holy grail of tables. Clean and available. My daughter sit down and just as we do some teen girl who was right behind us comes running over and drops her tray on the table in the same way you would do in a high school cafeteria to claim your space. I met her disapproving gaze with my own and she speaks first "I'm sitting here" (please apply a snotty valley girl type tone to that statement). I responded with "so are we high school". Then nothing. I'd had it I told my wife who was waiting for food that we'd be in the car.
What I want to know is when did McDonalds stop being a fun place to go?
The Joe Rogan Kale Shake Recipe (SMKultra Mod)
Hello Tumblrinos,
I know this is old news but I thought I'd share my recipe to make this nutritious shake go down a little easier.
Ingredients 2 Handfuls of Kale 1 Pear 4-inches of Cucumber 3 stalks of Celery 2 thumb sizes of Ginger 1 Banana 1 Carrot 16 Grapes 1 handful of Sprouts 1 - 1.5 cups of Hemp Seeds 2 cups of water
Now I don't have a fancy Vitamex or Blendtec blender. Just a good old fashioned blender that really shouldn't be forced to endure the abuse of chopping up things like carrots into a liquid form. I am however not going to let that stop me from trying to eat healthier. In case you're in the same boat here's how I handle the process. Remember water can be your best friend, chop things up as small as you can beforehand and grind slow homey. You don't want to overburden the engine on your blender so don't feel like you have to throw everything in at once and pulse blending can help you get through those tense moments.
-Wash everything and peel where applicable. -Strip the Kale leaves from the stocks add hallf the amount into the blender with 1 cup of water (you can keep the stocks if you want I just like stripping the leaves to get more leaf into the concentration) blend. -Blend second batch of Kale along with the grapes. -Add (peeled and chopped) pear and (peeled and chopped) ginger and 1/2 cup of water and blend. -Add (chopped) celery (I get rid of the tips and roots) and (peeled and chopped) cucumber and blend. -Add (peeled and chopped) carrot and sprouts and the remaining water and blend. -Add the (peeled and chopped) banana and commence the final blend. -Stir it up (add more water if necessary) and mix in the hemp seeds. -Serve, Store and enjoy.
Meditation by Chief Tecumseh (1768-1813) of the Shawnee Nation
So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none. When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.
