Nah, brah.
“Ah. Yah?”
he seems a little slow. idris decides to back up, to give the boy some room for his brain to breathe. "then repeat to me what I just said and what it means."
”No seriously. I’m serious.”
"Lemme tell you how our fight would go. You'd try to punch me. I'd break your arm, like, snap, it's in two pieces." He smiles his wannabe shark smile, like this is comedy. "Kinda like two stick. Except, uh, how much good is two halves of an arm gonna do ya, huh?"
”Then you’re fighting me. Not the stick. And I can kill you dead so.”
"that's real cute, babe. i'd really, uh, i'd really like to see you try."
( shrill ‘eeeeeeeeee’ whining like an old kettle. he needs those hands. for things. )
”Just checkin’ out the scene man — sir, man-sir, came up from Louisiana, backpacking brah —”
"now, i am an honest man, and so i must confess something to you right quick: not many people come here just to, ah, check out the scene. visits are usually long term. are you understandin' me?"
”Okay so what do the marines do next. They break the stick again. Then they have three stick to fight.”
"find a stick and fight me with it right now."
”No because if you break the stick then there're two sticks. Face it. You lose.”
"two sticks. one thousand marines. did they ever, uh, did they ever teach you math? probability? 'cause all reason says i'm right."
”Nuh-nuh-nuh-now Mister Knight, I can see where you’re comin’ from, but trust me, nobody is more concerned with nice girls like your daughter — ??? — abiding by the word of God. I swear to G — I promise you sir, I did not have sexual relations with that woman.”
"nobody is more concerned with nice girls like my devoted follower abiding by the Word Of God than me. you best be tellin' the truth, outsider, else i'll cut your heathen hands off and burn the stumps. and if it ain't the truth--which i doubt--just what else are you doin' here?"
”Whuh, no, that’s not true, you’re totally warped.”
"name one boy who isn't also a fuckboy. all the trippy lsd skin pigment is getting to your head, sweetie."
She makes a strangled noise between ‘ha ha ha' and 'ew ew ew’.
”Uh, yeah, I lived kind of Middle Of Nowhereish for a while, but I’ve seen a zillion photographers in the past like, six months. I’m probably on like six hundred different Flickrs.”
another knight would take this as an opportunity to wax poetic about the benefits of the isolation of knight, georgia, but cassandra is too disillusioned to be much of an idris's advocate.
"flickr? i haven't heard of flickr in ages. do you not like having your picture taken?"
❝ oh my god. where is my uber car. i’m not fuckin’ with weird creepy boys in the middle of the night. ❞
"uber car? sounds excitin'."
❛ Who’s that. ❜
"He's, uh, in that band. Y'know? They've got a leprechaun, a rat, some homeless guys, and one brown guy."
(☾☆) — Rosemary giggles but it’s hardly malicious or mocking in tone. She is relieved that she isn’t the only one feeling embarrassed. Rosemary takes her hand with a hint of blush on her cheeks. Now it really looks like they’re on a date. ❝Alright Helena. I can pay if you’d like.❞
What would Elijah think of her now? Hopefully he never has to know. If he goes looking for her, his eyes would dust over the lesbian couple getting coffee--Helena would never. "No--no. I'm paying, definitely. Just get what you want."
(☾☆) — ❝No, I wanted to hold your—…never mind.❞ Considering she did the action after introducing herself she thinks it’s reasonable that she misinterpreted her intentions. Awkwardly she looks to her feet and remains silent until she is spoken to again. ❝Yes miss.❞
she's mortified. absolutely mortified. swallowing down instinctive apologies that would surely only make this even more awkward, helena attempts to hold out her hand for the other to hold. "you don't have to call me that. i'm helena."
‘ not really. ‘ imagine if gabriel were an atheist(?) who spent a good portion of his life drowning his sorrows. no need to imagine.
"now, i do hope that you don't join these folks on certain evenings. i'm not sure there's a prayer for that type."
”Uh, uh-huh.” To answer all three questions. She realizes only after a delay how unhelpful her reply is, and babbles like a goldfish. “That — I mean — yeah, I’m still in school, and yeah, it’s mutation, that’s what it’s called. I don’t have any like, powers though, so it’s more like one big birthmark, or a skin condition or whatever.”
suddenly, it occurs to her that maybe, just maybe, this constitutes as being too forward, and that not everybody is as gay or suppressed as she is. "i'm surprised i haven't heard about you before. somebody like you should have a documentary or a magazine article or something."
(☾☆) — ❝Oh! Okay, sure.❞ This situation is confusing and she has been thrown into it rather quickly but she can go along with it. ❝I’m Rosemary.❞ Chirps the dreamer while holding out her hand.
from what helena has seen, people don't usually shake hands on first dates, but she's in no position to complain. she shakes the outstretched hand, then looks around for the nearest place they can duck into that won't cost her too much money.
"--there. that doughnut place. do you like coffee?"
