āOkayā¦ so out with it. What did you do?ā I ask as we walk. āWhatās going on?ā
āI, uh,ā I take a deep breath. The nerves are running through my veins and finally I just shout it out, āI applied to medical school.ā
"You what?! That's amazing! I'm proud of you! How exciting!"

"Okay... so out with it. What did you do?" I ask as we walk. "What's going on?"

āOf course. I just finished rounding on everyone.ā I nod as she leads us to the elevator. āWhatās up?ā
āSooo,ā I trail off as the elevator dings open and we wait for it to clear out. We walk into the the elevator after two other staff members. I smile as I think about what I did only a few minutes ago, āI did something.ā
"Ooookay?" I say. "See when Chloe tells me that, she's done something that will get her into trouble. You're scaring me, what'd you do?"

"Of course. I just finished rounding on everyone." I nod as she leads us to the elevator. "What's up?"

Finished. I did it. I canāt believe it but I did it.
I check the time and thereās only three minutes left in my lunch break. I log out of my motherās computer and I make my way over to the peds wing. I stop by little Jessicaās room first. She broke her leg and has had a hard time finding the strength to get back on her feet. Iāve had the opportunity to get to know the little girl and have come to find out that sheās quite the little artist. Every day I come to hang out with her, I see her growing a little stronger every day. Rounding the corner towards her room, I hear a familiar voice coming from the end of the hall.
I look up from my cell phone to see that blonde ponytail and huge happy smile that I canāt help but smile myself as I run up to her, āArizona! Youāre back!ā
"Hey! I am. Not full time yet, but I'm back." I nod and smile. "How's it going with the art therapy? I keep hearing nothing but good things from parents and fellow staff. I got an email from a board member telling me they were noticing an impact in morale on our wing."
Looks like Little Timothy Owen will have mommyās eyes and daddyās hair.

Yeah? It looks like he posed for the picture! My mom says when I was a baby that I was like a sour patch kid. I was really sassy and always making messes but at the same time all I did was cuddle!
I think he sort of was. For just a little over a month old, he's a little character. He will smile and coo when we talk to him.

Lena calls for our attention and we both look. "He does." I smile, "he feels safe with you, kiddo. Think maybe your sister could hold him for a bit?" I ask.

āIāmā¦.Iām good.ā I smile and nod to Dylan. āThereās a bit of peace that Timothy has brought to us. My anxieties over Owen and Chloe are quieter, Iām trusting that there isnāt another crazy person out there waiting to hurt them. We had a moment, where Owen and I spoke to Timothy about his big brother, and weāve decided to try and celebrate his birthdays too.ā My eyes have since filled with tears which I quickly wipe away. āIām sorry, Iām sure you didnāt want all of that unloaded on you.ā
The sight of Arizonaās tears makes my own swell up. I wonāt let them fall though. I just take her in a long comforting hug that we probably both needed. She apologizes for telling me all of this but I shake my head as I pull away, "No, itās okay. Itās fine. Thatās what Iām here forā¦ Iām so happy for you and Owen. The way you two fought your way through these past couple of years really inspire me.ā
"We're just.... living our life. That's all. We've had some difficult things thrown our way, but we're both from Military families.... we don't lay down and quit." I nod, hugging her in return. "I speak for both of us when I say thank you, for sayinf that."

Today will be a much happier motherās day, than the last one. Not only do I get to celebrate helping raise Chloe, I get to celebrate Timothy Owen too.
