The reason Qifrey is so awesome and relatable is because he wants to live. Man in his twenties being ominous as hell and breaking laws left and right and messing with forces beyond comprehension and lying to the cops and doing horrible things to the people who love him most and constantly destroying his own mental health and you peel back the layers and the motivation is "God I want to grow old someday."

so. so when qifrey was searching for a quiet, wide expanse under the stars as a kid he was following the subconscious beckoning of the silverwood to root and he was going to fucking die had olruggio not been present. and his atelier is known for being a surprising distance from the rest of witch society in a beautiful scenic expanse of open land. and his desperation for this was so intense that he walked straight into the ocean through that door to do so but with his loss of memory being so intense who’s to say he even understood the gravity of that decision/action. something something suicidal tendencies without it wholly being his intent which is so painful to read and that man is a mille-feuille of tragedy holy fuck

Something that I think sets witch hat atelier apart is the fact it never measures character by strength, instead always opting to use terminology relating to artistry. Magic isn't a power, it's artisanship. Instead of being preoccupied with the strength of characters, it portrays magic as an art - as a medium one can weave the most magnificent of tapestries from through their own creativity. And it's something I wish more people understood. Witch hat atelier is full of captivating artists.
