We are going to Brazil, we are going to Brazil, we are going, we are going, we are going to Brazil!! What a game, what a crowd, what a great three point victory! Century Link was bumpin' after the US's crucial 2-0 victory over Panama Tuesday night. US dominated the game for most of the game. Michael Bradley was brilliant with Cameron, Eddie Johnson, and Altidore also having fantastic showings. US started the scoring in the 35' with a great pass from Bradley to Fabian Johnson on the wing who delivered a picture perfect cross to Altidore on the far post who put the ball in the back of the net for his third goal in three games. US went into HT 1-0 and feeling good. You can see it in their play; they had a swagger to them. Jozy gets the biggest swag award tonight. He was feeling it; you can just see it in his play. For instance, only moments before his first goal, he was clearly fouled in the box for a penalty. The Mexican ref doesn't give anything, and Altidore just comes back one minute later and gets that goal he deserved. Starting the second half the US was a little slower, but in the 53' Geoff Cameron lofts a beautiful ball to Eddie Johnson who put it away oh so calmly in front of his hometown fans. Must have been an awesome moment for him. US rode the rest of the game out with a huge chance from Beasley, hitting the post. US could have scored a few times, unfortunately just not having the luck, but the important thing is the US got three points. Now for some defensive talk. Brad Evans got beat too often, but he didn't give up a goal. He's a serviceable RB. Timmy Chandler will most likely be the RB, but I would have no qualms seeing Evans at RB. Omar Gonzales played well, but nearly spoiled a great performance by letting his man through on goal only saved by a Tim Howard stop. Great play from Timmy Boy. He didn't have to make many stops, but he did save the ones that came near him, and that is what's important. Besler played well, nothing sticks out in my mind really all that good or bad. Beasley nearly scored and was quite the force bombing up and down the wings. Unfortunately he picked up a yellow and will miss the game against Honduras, next Tuesday. So what will Klinsmann do? I have to think he'll move Fabian Johnson to LB, and Eddie Johnson to LM as Zusi will be back in action. Want to hear some midfield ratings? Cool beans. Michael Bradley was solid as usual, both offensively and defensively. The first goal started from a great pass from Bradley to Fabian Johnson. Geoff Cameron played about as solid as he could, replacing Jones. He had a few miss-passes, but ultimately he was solid defensively and got the assist on Eddie Johnson's goal. So think about that. Klinsmann is forced to make two changes in the lineup for tonight, and both were involved in US goalscoring. Cheers for Klinsmann. Now moving farther up the midfield. On LM you had Fabian Johnson, he played fantastic. His cross to Altidore was absolutely World Class. Dempsey was quiet in play, but not so much with the ref tonight, jarring with him often. Dempsey also had one solid chance that just went wide. Not a great performance from Dempsey, but good enough to get a result. Eddie Jonson played well. He got a goal, and was pretty successful in getting around players on the wing, but the final ball just wasn't there for him tonight. Lastly, Altidore. Great game again. He drew a penalty on a power turn, but the ref just missed it. He scored his third goal in three games, and set up two fantastic chances later in the game, one for Beasley and one for Dempsey. Altidore is my man of the match. He played so solid, and nearly played all 90. He was taken off going into stoppage for Stuart Holden. So how about the subs. As I said, Holden came on for Altidore. Joe Corona, a substitution i've been calling for, for ages, came on for EJ, while Davis came on for Fabian Johnson. All three subs can't be evaluated very well as Davis and Corona came on in about the 80' or so and Holden came on in the 90'. Great game for the US tonight in front of a great crowd. Two games, six points. Can't really ask for much more. With the Costa Rica and Mexican draw earlier in the evening the US are now atop the Hexagonal table. 2-0 vs Panama is not bad. Three points is three points.
US couldn't have asked for a better result in the Mexico and Costa RIca game, and couldn't ask for a better result in their own game against Panama. The goal was to walk out of these three qualifiers with nine points. They have played 2 games and have six points. Things are looking well for the US. On to the next one.
