(I keep listening to “Something Stupid” and it’s making my heart want to burst so uhhh it’s pining!Kaiba hours now.)
One hour, two courses, and half a bottle of wine into a five-course meal, and Kaiba came to the euphoric, horrifying realization that he was in love with Jounouchi Katsuya.
He was almost certain he was the first between them to do so, in fact, a notion almost as absurd as the moment that made the realization hit home. One offhand joke that made Jounouchi choke and spit his wine back into his glass; a thank you spattered with laughter when Kaiba offered him his handkerchief; a smile that had frantic butterflies erupting in Kaiba’s stomach. His face went suddenly red, and it had nothing to do with the wine.
Jounouchi, luckily, incredibly, did not seem to notice that Kaiba had suddenly taken a figurative punch to the gut.
These ‘date nights’ weren’t really supposed to mean anything. Just a means of alleviating boredom and spending Kaiba’s seemingly endless well of money. He’d never be rid of it either way. The company was…unexpected, at first, but Jounouchi proved to be a rather…entertaining companion. To say the least.
Evidently ‘entertaining’ was no longer an appropriate descriptor. No, now Kaiba’s traitorous heart was supplying words like endearing and cute and kissable.
Oh yes, he wanted to kiss him. Kaiba Seto wanted to kiss Jounouchi Katsuya.
No, more than that. He wanted to make the night go on forever. After dinner, dancing. After that, more wine, looking out at the stars over a private balcony. Then he wanted to find out what sorts of beautiful, ridiculous sounds Jounouchi made when one made sweet, passionate love to him.
Disgusting. He needed more wine.
“Hey, what’s with the weird face? I didn’t make that much of a mess, did I?” Jounouchi frowned and searched the table, but he would only find a few specks dotting the tablecloth. By some miracle, the white dress shirt beneath his blazer had not acquired any wine stains at all.
Kaiba sighed, in a way that was unavoidably fond, and sipped his own wine.
“No, Jounouchi. You’re fine.”
He would just have to keep his revelation to himself. There was no sense in spoiling the night by saying something as stupid as I love you.
