Travel diary Norway. Made in 2026 summer during a bike trip.

First drawing from our bike tour from Oslo to Bergen. I depicted a boat selling fish burgers in Tvedestrand. I added patterns inspired by Viking runes, floral motifs from Norwegian folklore, and a Viking longship prow drawn in my own style. ----

Munch’s *The Scream*—seagull style. These (very vocal) seabirds are an integral part of Norway’s splendid architectur.

A particularly inspiring building at the Bakaåno campsite.

For the left section, I drew inspiration from silver frieze patterns and the colors of textile belts from Western Norway (6th century AD).

The figures at the bottom right are inspired by a Viking wood carving seen at the Archaeological Museum in Stavanger.

The other black, yellow, turquoise, and white elements appear on the magnificent wooden church at the Oslo Folk Museum. Its oldest sections date back to the 13th century. Originally built in the town of Gol, it was dismantled and reassembled in the capital in the late 19th century by King Oscar II.

Finally, the central dragon—whose angular shapes contrast with the rest of the design—is inspired by one of the many origami figures decorating a bar in Bergen.

Nouvelle création !

Cette peinture, comme beaucoup d’autres avant, est restée un moment en suspens. Par manque d’inspiration, j’ai laissé le poisson central de nombreux mois seul au milieu de l’espace. Jusqu’au jour où je suis tombé par hasard sur un article d’un magazine géographique parlant des membracidés. Ces petits insectes aux formes étranges dont j’ignorais l’existence, semblent venir d’une autre galaxie. Je venais alors de trouver l’élément manquant afin de terminer ma peinture.

A noter que je me suis permis une certaine liberté concernant les couleurs de ces fascinantes créatures…bien terrestres.

New creation!

This painting, like many others before it, remained unfinished for a while. Lacking inspiration, I left the central fish alone in the middle of space for many months. Until one day I stumbled upon an article in a geography magazine about treehoppers. These small, strangely shaped insects, whose existence I was unaware of, seem to come from another galaxy. I had just found the missing element to complete my painting.

Note that I took some liberties with the colors of these fascinating…very terrestrial creatures.

Nouvelle création inspirée par un séjour à Séville. J’y ai regroupé différents éléments de la culture et architecture locale :

un magnifique lampadaire du centre-ville

des têtes d’êtres hybrides (griffons ?) ornant un vase et un azulejos (carreaux de faïence)

des oiseaux figurant sur une fresque et des azulejos de bâtiments du centre historique

une spirale empruntée à la splendide Eglise de l’Annonciation

une statuette de taureau recouverte de mosaïque rappelant l’art de Gaudí

une fontaine en forme de poisson située près de la Cathédrale

un lion particulièrement comique qui garde la Puerta de Léon de l’Alcazar.

Les couleurs jaune-vert-bleu de la face de félin évoquent celles qui reviennent de manière régulière dans les azulejos sévillans. Quant au cadre en mosaïque, il s’agit d’un clin d’oeil au passé romain de la région.

A new creation inspired by a stay in Seville. I've brought together various elements of local culture and architecture:

- a magnificent lamppost from the city center

- heads of hybrid beings (griffins?) adorning a vase and an azulejo (ceramic tile)

- birds depicted in a fresco and azulejos from buildings in the historic center

- a spiral borrowed from the splendid Church of the Annunciation

- a bull statuette covered in mosaic reminiscent of Gaudí's art

- a fish-shaped fountain located near the Cathedral

- a particularly comical lion guarding the Puerta de León of the Alcázar.

The yellow, green, and blue colors of the feline's face evoke those that regularly appear in Sevillian azulejos. The mosaic frame is a nod to the region's Roman past.

Voici une des raisons qui me pousse à persévérer dans ma vie d’artiste. Cette image raconte une histoire riche en émotions et extrêmement symbolique. Il s’agit d’un tableau représentant un martin-pêcheur qui m’avait été commandé il y a quelques années par Zsuzsa, une amie hongroise. Il y a quelques semaines, lors des élections nationales qui ont abouti à un résultat laissant espérer un retour à une véritable démocratie, cette amie m’a écrit plusieurs messages afin d’exprimer sa joie partagée par un grand nombre de ses compatriotes. Je lui ai alors suggéré que ce modeste oiseau pourrait désormais représenter la liberté et lui ai demandé une faveur : le prendre en photo quelque part en Hongrie histoire de célébrer la bonne nouvelle. Elle a choisi le Parlement hongrois, lieu hautement symbolique.

This is one of the reasons that motivates me to persevere in my life as an artist. This image tells a story rich in emotion and deeply symbolic. It's a painting of a kingfisher that was commissioned a few years ago by Zsuzsa, a Hungarian friend. A few weeks ago, during the national elections that yielded results that offered hope for a return to true democracy, this friend sent me several messages to express her joy, shared by many of her compatriots. I suggested that this humble bird could now represent freedom and asked her a favor: to photograph it somewhere in Hungary to celebrate the good news. She chose the Hungarian Parliament, a highly symbolic location.

Carnet de voyage – Córdoba

Ce dessin mêle de manière fictive des lampes variées aperçues dans des bars, une table de restaurant que j’ai orné de motifs évoquant les magnifiques azulejos andalous, des plantes et du mobilier qui décoraient le splendide patio de notre hôtel de Cordóba (ville réputée pour ses patios) … ainsi que des sculptures animales empruntées au musée archéologique de la ville qui rappellent le passé romain de la cité.

Travel diary – Córdoba

This drawing fictitiously mixes various lamps seen in bars, a restaurant table that I decorated with motifs evoking the magnificent Andalusian azulejos, plants and furniture that decorated the splendid patio of our hotel in Cordoba (a city renowned for its patios) ... as well as animal sculptures borrowed from the city's archaeological museum which recall the city's Roman past.

Travel Journal – Seville The building that inspired this drawing was located in the splendid gardens of the Alcázar of Seville. I retained its general form, to which I added various elements (azulejos tiles, friezes, sculptures, Arabic calligraphy) borrowed from other monuments in the city. The idea was to convey, through this illustration, the different influences (Roman, Arab, Italian, and Dutch) that have made Andalusia a unique region.

Carnet de voyage – Séville

Le bâtiment qui m’a inspiré ce dessin se trouvait dans les splendides jardins de l’Alcázar de Séville. J’en ai conservé sa forme générale, à laquelle j’ai ajouté différents éléments (azulejos, frises, sculptures, calligraphie arabe) empruntés à d’autres monuments de la ville. L’idée étant de retranscrire à l’aide de cette illustration les différentes influences (romaines, arabes, espagnoles, italiennes et hollandaises) qui ont fait de l’Andalousie une région particulière.

Pour le décor, je me suis inspiré des splendides vitraux Art nouveau de la cathédrale de Fribourg (Suisse). J'y ai ajouté une petite touche mexicaine.
