something really interesting about this scene in the trailer is the color choices! in the manga, other plants refer to the twins as the red brother (vash) and the blue brother (knives); here we can see that the red plant is dead while the blue one is alive and thriving. vash spends a grand majority of his time in both the original run and maximum absolutely denying the side of him that is a plant; for him, being only partially human is a source of agony -- not only does it make him feel completely alienated when it comes to those around him, it is an aspect that he views as dangerous to those he cherishes. meanwhile, knives clearly has no issue with what he views as making him genetically superior to other life forms. both brothers deny a facet of themselves; vash his heritage as a plant, knives his heritage as a human. i’d also like to tie this into the end of maximum, so spoilers from here out. although vash eventually utilizes his abilities as a plant in order to defeat his brother, i think it would be wrong to say that he accepts that part of him. vash pushes himself to the absolute limit by the very end: his hair has turned completely black, symbolizing that he, as a plant, is at the end of his life source and, should he continue to try and use those abilities, he will most certainly die. despite this, it is vash that outlives knives, remaining in a human form while his brother takes on the form of a tree. it’s an interesting parallel: vash’s desire to stick so closely to his humanity, something he strongly associates with rem, is what allows him to continue on living, while knives’ rejection of that aspect of himself ultimately results in him being placed in this state of limbo. all of this makes me really interested to see what other tidbits stampede will be tying into their story. i feel like, since it doesn’t seem this will be an exact presentation of maximum, we will at least get a lot of references and easter eggs.

thinking back to how vash felt powerful and pleased when he hurt rem as a child, only feeling terror afterwards, and considering how that probably is a constant struggle for him. i think vash fully believes in his whole ‘love and peace / you can never take the life of another human / pacifism’ shtick, but i also think that there IS another part, deeply hidden away, that is far more similar to knives than he would care to admit. we as a reader do get to see this struggle occasionally, but he does such a good job of controlling it, keeping it under lock and key - except when it comes to knives. i’ve said this so many times before, but vash truly was so close to becoming an enemy of humanity just like his brother, and it was only because of that strong connection to rem and her beliefs that he didn’t; i could also truly talk for hours about how their paths were mostly predatermined by rem - her obvious favoritism for vash, the way she truly only sought to comfort him and didn’t bother to question knives’ seemingly instant acceptance of what was done to tessla, the fact that she was already at ends with knives morally to begin with. but the temptation to make a verse where the rolls are reversed…. where it was knives who was saved by rem while vash fell into that darkness… 👀 👀 👀

Yeah.#i think that's a great example of that sort of inner battle vash has #because like. most people would probably agree that sometimes there are people who truly would be better off dead #for the safety of everyone surrounding them yk?#and i think that was one of those situations where vash was like 'oh. this is one of those people.'#but he still sticks so hard to rem's teachings which is both admirable (ig...) and just. so incredibly painful.#rem you fucked up two perfectly good twins that's what you did

#✩ —— ; ooc.#✩ —— ; history.#me whenever it comes to rem ever: you fucked up two perfectly fine children is what you did #also don't get me wrong - rem's grip on vash very obviously ALSO caused horrible trauma to him as well #i mean LOOK at him. look at all of the scars he has and what he has to go through in order to honor her.#imagine if she hadn't forced him into such black and white thinking. the series would have probably ended a lot quicker than it did!#ANYWAYS THAT LAST BIT: i still think knives would be far more aggressive than vash. i don't think he'd follow rem's morals and i think that #there would be WAY more bloodshed #i think vash would take a similar 'savior' role that knives takes when it comes to his fellow plants but i don't think he would be as #aggressive towards humans - i think he'd moreso so follow the idea that by taking away the plants aka the only way they can survive #(which would result in all of the human's obvious death)#then their deaths would technically not be by his hands. all he did was save his people. he'd be willing to turn a blind eye to the others

reminder to never let vash drive anything because it’ll end up in disaster. he will crash and burn and take you down with him!
