Usually, I am very "live and let live" when it comes to fan interpretations, but, like, why is everyone reducing Fuyumura to "that gnc character" or "the she/they ever".

Like, she's intersex. This isn't even subtext, y'all realize she's all but stated to be intersex, right? And she's both demonized and fetishized for physical traits related to her intersex condition, right? Are we all on the same page here? Do you understand that she's an intersex teenager that is left intentionally in the dark about what condition she has, and as a result feels disconnected and repulsed by a body that, she feels, is uniquely wrong? Do you understand that these very same traits that she feels shame over are also used against her, either in the form of subtle and/or overt exclusion (Amaya's inability to see her as a fellow child, her almost instinctual usage of her height as a "method of intimidation") or in the form of (albeit unconscious) fetishization.

You can't really blame amane. She was punished before for helping the cat, she got the doctrine literally BEAT INTO HER, of course in a situation where she has to choose between breaking the rules or staying loyal to the doctrine she's going to choose the latter. If she can just let the adults break the rules she literally was tortured for breaking with no consequence then to her it would mean her suffering was for nothing, that her loyality to the doctrine was for nothing.

Amane's parents are gentle with her when not punishing her, theyre loving and kind, at least at first glance. I think that's why she was so uncomfortable with how shidou treated her, at least subconciously she associated that gentleness with danger. It's common for child abuse victims to feel suspicious of kindness after all.

Dunno how chill tumblr is with sh headcanons but i really like the hc that Nami used to sh when she worked under Arlong, considering how quick she was to hurt herself twice during the arlong park arc. Since she lacked autonomy even over her body it was like the one thing she could do to feel in control. And now she's in a much better state and isn't ashamed of her past or her scars. Ah. Cute.
