[Callaskas] shockingly.

Liam smiled and nodded, “Work chair, got it. That’s good – You should use it t work when you need too, don’t wanna end up ruining all your good PT work, right? – The bus, oh yeah because you just love kicking it with the peasants – wait is kicking it, the right phrase? nevermind – – I am so not down with the kids.” Liam laughed shaking his head. Smooth was something this guy was not but Gus loved him anyway.
“Errands? – oh right! Yeah! Those – oh just y’know the usually, I had to pick up a couple of things at IKEA - things I needed I swear – – and uh, pick up some dry cleaning – for Owen, I said I’d grab it for him he had some meetings and stuff today, no biggie.” Liam replied nervously, he was no good at making things up on the spot and he hoped to god Augustinas would not see right though him. That was not part of the plan.
The two headed to the Park, it wasn’t far from Liam’s place, it was a warm evening, but the cool breeze kept the temperature perfect for a nice evening stroll. So far Liam was sure Gus had no idea what he had spend all day running around planning. With Perry on stand by making sure no one messed anything up, the ring safely in his pocket, what could possibly go wrong? “Oh two seconds. – I just need to remind Owen the dry cleaners didn’t have one of his jackets ready.” He mumbled as he stopped short distance from their destination and send Perry the approaching text, so she could leave. Liam’s nerves were at an all time high s she struggled to type the words into his phone “approaching, safe to leave. THANK YOU.” he hit send and slipped his cell back in his pocket, taking Gus’s hand as he lead him down to the secluded picnic bench by the lake where they had taken photographs on their first date. “You remember taking me here on our first date, it was a little colder that night, it was what late November right? You had that huge ass Camera you still point in my face with you – –” Liam smirked, biting his lip with nerves. as they approached Liam looked around at his hand work, the pictures strung up between two trees, the whole area covered in fairy lights and candles.
He watched Gus look around trying to figure out what he was up too, “I know you are probably thinking I am crazy right now, but I brought you here because this is where you met the real me, not the drunk pseduo confident guy in out that kisses perfect strangers – however perfect they might be – – so I brought you here because this place was our first date, our starting point – the last few months have been hard on you, on both of us, but it taught me something, it taught me that I never want to spend a day without you, I mean sure we will spend days apart because we both work crazy hours, but you get what I mean – – Augustinas Lukenskas I love you, every single atom of your being, so – –” Liam fumbled in his pocket for the small box before pulling it out. It was a simple white gold band, inside scribed with the date of their first date and the word “Always”
He pulled the box open and fell down on one knee, ever the true gentleman, “Augustinas Lukenskas – – will you Marry me?”
“I do, I’ve never appreciated my wheels more than I do now -- which doesn’t make any sense whatsoever but -- whatever? Also -- if you mean kickin’ it as in chillin’, this is a good expression indeed -- kid,” Gus chuckled, winking at Liam and taking his hand, for the overall pleasure and stability. “Oh, honey, I believe you totally needed that IKEA stuff. Our carrot plushie is lonely, we absolutely needed that broccoli one,” he nodded with the most serious facial expression he could possibly pull out. Liam’s love for IKEA crap was infinite and Gus didn’t mind all those decor things laying around their house. Which he started to call their house instead of Liam’s house without even noticing it. The new plant pots were particularly nice so their cactus collection looked great. “And I’m totally not saying anything about you being everyone’s errand boy because I truly believe Owen would pick up your jackets from the dry cleaning too,” he smiled. Liam knew well that Gus truly believed not only in Owen’s possible payback but also in not asking for favors of any form. Like anyone. Like ever. But it was just him and he wasn’t normal in this matter.
Walking to the park was great -- the weather, Liam being so close and finally having time for a random trip (because that’s how it looked like for him at this point) together and the simple appreciation of all the little things. The worst part of walking to the park was walking to the park but no-one, and surely not Gus, expected it to be the just like flying on the cloud of awesomeness to the land of pleasure. He appreciated Liam being patient with the snail’s pace and making it look like it was a regular thing for him to move forward so damn slowly when normally he’d just run around the place. After all he was able to keep up with Gus’ rolling and, let’s be honest, his wheels were too expensive to go slow. Now he’d probably die of boredom because of the world around them moving like it didn’t even have the will to live anymore but he was to busy trying to pay attention to both Liam and the sidewalk.
They made their way to the picnic bench, a spot in the park he remembered well from their first date. Gus looked around, amazed with all of the preparation Liam has done here for their, as he stated it himself, little evening stroll. “I know that making our way here without me crying for mercy is a big success but -- Should I shut up?” he asked, chuckling. Yes, he should. Yes, he should also ask himself that question on a regular basis. They sat down which didn’t help Gus a bit with gathering his wits and not simply looking around as if it was his first time outside. He noticed the photos and a wide smile spread across his face. “What’s going on, honey?” he asked absently, regardless of promising to shut up. There was too much going on in his head and none of those thoughts were making any sense. He looked at Liam and couldn’t read anything from his face.
When Liam started talking, Gus still wasn’t sure what the everloving hell was happening. Did he forget about some sort of anniversary? His own birthday? Any date he definitely should’ve remembered and now would end up looking like an idiot? No way, his birthday was in December, they started dating when the whole Seattle was a one big Christmas light and technically no-one knew when their relationship officially started but surely not in July. What the -- ?
As the monologue continued, everything inside Gus was slowly but surely turning into a one big knot. Normally, he was associating this kind of feeling with stress but this time it was as far away from that as possible. Perfect stranger? Oh, God, no, he was anything but perfect and the last couple of months proved that well enough.
When Liam dropped the bomb that the big question was, the knot loosened up in one beat but Gus’ eyes filled up with not so manly tears. What was he supposed to do and say? What was the right reaction to that kind of moment he’d never faced in his life before and hopefully never will again? The rationalist living inside of him, the very one that usually had everything under control, was screaming to trust the instinct and that there wasn’t any other way but how the hell was he supposed to trust the instinct when he’d spent his life believing in solid facts and having no intuition at all.
Oh, God.
“I will. I nine thousand four hundred percent will marry you. -- Oh, my God, I love you so much.” He finally managed to vocalize the one thing he was more than sure of. Not worrying anymore about crying like an idiot in public, Gus embraced Liam and didn’t feel like letting him go anytime soon. Or ever. Or ever and one more day. “You just mixed up one thing, y’know? -- You were the perfect stranger that night.”
