Dracula Daily Reactions

1. What is this project?

To record this collective experience, I'm setting out to reblog and catalog, in order, every Dracula Daily-related post tagged either #dracula or #dracula daily during the 2022 season. I started from April 27, 2022-ish, and the last email comes in November.

Dracula Daily may happen again next year, and I hope it does. The goal, however, is to capture this year's incredible, first-time-ever (as far as I know) wave of synchronously paced interest in a classic novel.

I hope the resulting archive can be a source of joy and interest for Dracula readers, tumblr users, scholars, and the many people who are all three. 🧛🏻‍♂️🦇🖤

2. What if I don't want my post (or my tags) here?

No problem! The goal is to capture the overall fandom activity, not to invade any individual's privacy or overstep anyone's personal boundaries. I truly appreciate every time a person has said, "Hey, can you delete this?"

If you’d prefer for your #dracula daily- or #dracula-tagged post not to be included here, you can tag it ‘don’t archive’ or 'don’t reblog’ or similar, and I’ll be happy to skip it.

Excellent question. I'm working on a list of the tags I'm using.

5. Is there a way I can help?

Absolutely. Aside from help with technical questions (described in this post), you can send me your favorites of either of these two types of posts:

reblogs that add especially interesting/funny things to the original posts, or

posts from before May 2022 that have been revived as part of the Dracula Daily conversation. (Here is a great example, sent by a lovely Dracula Daily reader.)

The way that I'm going about this (methods), I only see new, original posts, so I miss these kinds.

I love how Dracula's entire reason for wanting to move to England is that he thinks it would be fun to be live near a bustling city where no one knows him so he could walk in crowds of people unrecognized & get away with SO much murder. But also he makes sure to pick the creepiest half-ruined old house available because he knows he would get bored if he couldn't be incredibly spooky and scare people. He wants some fresh hunting grounds but he'd never abandon his style, what a man <3

It’s so funny seeing posts like “lol Jonathan’s got a phone in the 1800s” and “Jonathon’s got the latest technology”, ‘cause that’s a big part in the book. It mentions a lot of advancement to technology at the time like typewriters and phonographs and how it effects communication and such. So, honestly, this would have been on brand!

All in all i think Dracula is a pretty polite vampire like Yeah he might eat our bestie but damn if he doesn't make sure his stay is comfy . he's good company he likes him

ok but we know that that’s not what jonathan is actually most upset about. bc he opened his entry expressing his fear and dread. but he can’t help but try not to act too fazed. and so while his fear increasingly leaks through he tries to put on a brave face and is all ‘yeah my host doesn’t have a reflection and tried to grab my throat but it’s fine. it’s fine. yeah. im totally cool with it. i mean i’m a little put out that i can’t shave obviously but otherwise im good.’
