Isabela, Queen of the Eastern Seas and sharpest blade in Llomeryn; but she wasn’t always pirate. Her past has been riddled with hardships and struggle, but she doesn’t let that drag her down. She is a forward thinker, concerning herself with the problems of the future and letting the past be past. Isabela lives in the present moment, and acts in ways that benefit her because at the end of the day, she only has herself to look out for.
As a captain, her true love is out on the sea. The salty air, the open skies, the guls screaming by. It is her true calling. Her interests include a good drink to share over cards and exploring the pleasures of the flesh. You will find she has little shame talking about vulgar topics. Isabela likes good company, teasing others, sometimes breaking the law, and like all pirates a good treasure to find. If not on sea, you could find her at the tavern or depending on the time the brothel. She is pleased to be dragged anywhere in the company of her friends, and above anywhere else she feels at home among the lower class–the real people.

Sleepy times- what’s a normal bed time for your character? Do they wear PJs? Skivvies? Nothing at all? How do they fall asleep– is it quick or does it take a while? Do they have a particular routine before going to bed?
Hawke doesn’t sleep well most nights. After everything that’s happened, he doesn’t really expect it to be any differently than how it is. If it’s not the nightmares that keep him tossing and turning all night long, it’s memories.
He prefers the nights where he comes home, stumbling and tired and sore. Those nights, it’s all he can do to stumble to bed, strip down to his underclothes, and fall into bed. The nightmares tend to be tame on those nights, and the memories usually don’t keep him awake if only because he’s so damned tired.
No, if Hawke’s being truthful, his favorite nights are the ones where he’s not alone. The ones where his lover is warming his bed, where he’s naked and sated and at peace for just a little while. On those nights, even if his mind acts against him, he can roll over and clutch the lifeline that is his lover, and usually his lover doesn’t mind.
But most nights, most nights he’s in his night clothes and tossing and turning, recalling the horrors he’s seen. His sibling dying in front of him, the abomination that was once his mother, the injustice, the slavers, the desperate mages turned to awful measures, the near-death experiences, the red lyrium, the betrayal, the pain, the fear… And when he finally manages to fall asleep, his nightmares show him horrors he’s yet to live through and hopefully never will. His nightmares show his lover dying, his friends and family dying, while he’s absolutely helpless to save them.
No amount of routine can help him those nights. No matter how many times he cleans his teeth, his face, his hair, his entire body. No matter the amount of wine or tea or whiskey when he’s truly desperate. No matter how often he writes letters- to the deceased or the living, and no matter how many letters he burns. Nothing will help, and he’s learned to just deal with it and make sure the next night, he’s far too exhausted to care.

Garret Hawke liked to think he was a simple man who got caught up in complicated situations, but in reality, he wasn’t nearly as simple as he’d like to believe. He had a heart of gold underneath his occasional snark, and his desire to help people was what really got him entangled in things he had no business dealing with. As a mage, he had a desire for people like him to have freedom, though he detested those who would use their magic to harm innocents. Though he was raised in Fereldan, after living in Kirkwall for a year, there was no doubt that he belonged in the Free Marches. He loved Kirkwall even as he hated the Circle, the Alienage, the way refugees were treated, and the Templar presence that seemed to loom everywhere. But that was the thing about Hawke- he saw the potential for goodness in everything.
On days where he wasn’t getting into trouble, and often on days when he was, he could often be found in the company of his friends. He enjoyed gathering at the Hanged Man, even though the people who frequented there could be as bad as his uncle- but he also knew that sometimes the rowdy crowd was his own group. Cheap, bad ale and a game or three of Wicked Grace often awaited him at the Hanged Man, and sometimes after a day of trying to fix everything or improve his situation, that’s exactly what he craved. (Even after getting back the family mansion and making a good name for himself, he still preferred going to the Hanged Man to anywhere else in Kirkwall, though the group often met at his home on those days when dealing with strangers was too much.) Hawke was definitely at his happiest when surrounded by his loved ones- and his dog, and when one of said loved ones hurt, he felt it just as deeply.
And the trouble he got into? It often came out of a desire to improve the situation for someone, be it himself, a friend, or even a complete stranger with a sympathetic plight. Maybe it was because there were times when he’d so desperately wished for someone to help him, or maybe it was because he was genuinely that good, but Hawke often found himself taking on other’s woes even when he had enough going on. Sometimes the weight of trying to fix Kirkwall felt too heavy for him, but Hawke knew that when it came down to it, he had only himself to blame for taking on so much stress. But Hawke could never imagine it being any other way.

People say that writing makes things easier to handle; you can put your thoughts in order, plan things better. To be honest, I’m not really sure why writing any of this down is imperative to anything, it is not as if these words will be used as some basis for the time or be looked upon as some important historical document. I certainly won’t be the Hawke that the historians will be looking for, but here it is anyway I suppose:
My name is Bethany Hawke. Yes, yes, the sister of that Hawke. There isn’t much about me and my history that isn’t already known simply because I’m related to the Champion of Kirkwall, so partially, this introduction seems moot, but what really is left of us but the memories and writings we leave behind? That seemed a little too poetic, maybe? Whoever is reading this probably already knows the basics; my family escaped to Kirkwall during the Blight, we lost my twin, Carver, while we were fleeing. I wasn’t...very involved with everything immediately prior to the Chantry being destroyed, as I was infected with the Blight in the Deep Roads and inexplicably joined the Grey Wardens in order to save my life. At the time...I was bitter, to be honest, that my brother escaped unscathed as always while I was left...well...as I was. I left after that, understandably, for further training and for...personal reasons.
I think I was angry for a long time after that. Or at least, it felt like a long time.
It wasn’t until I returned to Kirkwall that I really forgave myself and my brother for what happened. Not that there wasn’t anything for me to forgive him for, after all, nothing of what happened was really his fault. He was just doing what he had to to save me, and I should honestly thank him for that, so I suppose...it wasn’t really until I returned to Kirkwall that I was at peace enough with myself to apologize for how I acted and forgave myself for the things I’d said.
Not that that meant that everything was back to normal.
As with most things involving my older brother, we were smack in the middle of a civil war, which...I wasn’t exactly complaining about. Things needed to change, and by the Marker they certainly did.
Very obviously I’m very supportive of mage rights and...while I understand the need for the Circles, there very basic structure needs to change. Mages aren’t monsters. We’re people. We feel, we bleed, we love, just as anyone else does, treating us like monsters is just going to turn us into such. A person can only survive so long being told that they’re something before they embody that something after all.
Lets see...what else? I suppose I should actually say something about myself shouldn’t I? I like mabari, as any Fereldan would, but I do have a penchant for cats. Apparently I like things that are stubborn and act as though they don’t really want any attention while begging you for it. I enjoy long walks, and pressing flowers, though I don’t have much time for either hobby at the moment. There are few things in the world that are more important to me than my family, found or otherwise. Especially that idiot brother of mine. I suppose that’s it about me then.
Bethany leans back a bit, admiring her penmanship and reading over the words she’s scribbled onto a piece of parchment. It seems scattered, ranting without meaning to, but the words are already written, no sense in scrapping the whole thing now. Besides, she thinks to herself, I’m out of parchment.
Anders lived a long life of hardship. Ever since he was brought to the Fereldan Circle at twelve years old, the boy strived to escape the confinement all mages were forced to endure when they were discovered. Life in the Circle was intolerable - Anders yearned for his own personal freedom, and, after befriending an unusual bunch, the freedom of others like him.
Anders is notorious for his multiple escape attempts. His first only occurred eight months after his arrival at the Circle. After his last escape attempt (around the age of twenty-two), the Warden-Commander enlisted him as a Grey Warden. It was a short time before Anders abandoned his griffin armor for Kirkwall. There, he acted as Lowtown’s resident healer and as a member of the city’s secret Underground, a group of people who aided in the escape of several magical folk from imprisonment.
Despite the fact that Anders stayed in hiding for much of his life, he is a fairly open person. Details of most of his personal life can be uncovered with little struggle. His compassion extends from people to other living creatures, especially cats. Anders certainly prefers cats to any other companion animal.

“Me?” The dwarf had been nursing a tankard of ale most of the night, and the way his head whipped around to catch the stories the other patrons told did not go unnoticed. These parts didn’t get his sort of visitor often, and when they did, it was a newly surfaced dwarf, who seemed more jittery and tense than this laid back fellow. Asking him about his person seemed to be the right thing to do, though the Cheshire grin on the man’s face seemed to suggest otherwise. Whatever this man would say was, perhaps, not the most truthful of tales, the whole tavern had already decided.
“I’m a storyteller, Dot, plain and simple. A businessman who’s run the wrong side of business far longer than you’ve been out of short pants.” The man began, sitting up straighter in his chair. He looked almost… menacing, despite how his feet didn’t reach the ground. “A purveyor of rare people of all backgrounds, perhaps, with my own fair share of fuck ups and hard dealings. My good man, I am an author, as simply put as it could be.”
“Dot?”
“Now, now, I don’t name and tell.” Well, that was a lie, but generally it was well after the point of being too used to the name to object to the reasons behind it. “Since you asked, I’m a Marcher, Kirkwall specifically. Born and raised, though the family line originates from the depths of Orzammar.” Of course, that last bit was a given- wasn’t a single dwarf who didn’t lay claim to the underground city, though not all could be traced back reliably. The name Tethras, though, was still in the records of the shaperate, as was the stain across the family’s face.
“So, you know about the Qunari invasion? The mage rebellion?”
Varric just laughed. This guy, the big one this time, seemed to know the right questions, even if the guy looked more likely to run from the tavern with his figurative tail between his legs. He hadn’t seen a guy look so antsy since that shady fellow back at the Hanged Man. (He could almost hear Hawke snort and ask which one. Ah, good times.) “Knew them? Well, Fidget, I sure as shit knew about both conflicts. I fought in them.” An impressed silence fell over the table adjacent, and the dwarf took another smirking drink from his tankard like the smug bastard he was.
“Did you ever meet Hawke? His friends? Did you know the Champion of Kirkwall?”
Ah yes, his intuition had been right about Fidget. The right questions in deed. “My tall, antsy friend, you know how to really talk to people, don’t you?” He paused. “Yes, I knew the Champion. Quite well, in fact.” He took another drink, baiting the group, letting the suspense build before it looked like Stick was about to blow his curly top. “I am, after all, his chronicler.” There was a hush over the table, and this time, hie actually worried that Stick’s head was going to blow across the room.
