Left Claw

Over the molten plain looms the Erstwhile Ridge, a bustling center of commerce. It is home to the dragons of the Left Claw, an accidental army turned a fierce fighting force loyal to their ever-reluctant matriarch, Tennebris. Brought up from nothing, with nothing but the hides on their backs, they rule the surrounding territory with great pride and accomplishment.

What if

Instead of just being spider webs or whatever

Smirch is like. Scarring

Healed by magic and taking the color of either the magic used to heal, or the color of their tert

No scarring to the touch, but permanent nonetheless. It shows how severe the wounds were, if the dragon had to be healed in such a way

They do look like scars! I love this idea. But then how would they be heritable? Hmmm. Maybe the magic used to heal such massive, life-threatening injuries actually scars the dragon’s DNA as well.  

Lineages could pass on the scars and it would be an honor, that one of their ancestors was so strong they survived something they should have died from.

What about hatchlings who don’t know their family history, and they don’t know if the scars they bear are from a really heroic act or a really shameful act?

Ok so I would imagine the ‘scars’ passed down (since the offspring themselves wouldn’t posses the scars, but more of an echo of them) would be a bit fainter and have some minor differences. IT COULD BE LIKE A SYMBOL! Where it represents the inherent strength of that bloodline?

Consider: a tundra that was breed-changed to a mirror. Still has poor eyesight, but rather than identifying people by smell, it tells them apart by taste.

Had a blast with this! It was a great excuse to play around with some of the brushes I’ve been using mostly for sketching lately.

Frames for what, you ask?

The battlesprite images of your dragons from the coliseum. Just follow this method:

Top image, return.

Leftborder, battlesprite, right border, (no spaces in between), return. 

Bottom image.

It makes for a very fancy, pretty frame, like so. 

Which is V useful for self-updating spreadsheet bios, as you can just swap out dragon IDs rather than making new graphics for everyone.

Molten Scar (fire/mighty)

From above, the Molten Scar appears as a fiery, violent wound gouged relentlessly into the landscape. It reaches eastward and is comprised of disjointed tectonic plates that crash thunderously into one another as they drift on the liquid rock. Rare metals are revealed in this back-and-forth exchange, and the open gaps are alive with dragons eager to plunder the veins before the next collision knocks the unclaimed ore into the melting pot below.
