» Ark’s tone of voice caught him off-guard at first... And visibly so, at that: a rarity in of itself. Usually Kain at least managed to hide his surprise...

“I—well, uh... You see... I could assure you that I have a perfectly good explaination for my absence, although that wouldn’t do much good...” Oh yes, Kain, let’s hear your perfectly good reason. “I just wanted some quiet time, is all—as for where I’ve been, though: here and there.”

→ IN OUR FLIGHT.

Spring took to the land readily, and with the thawing frost and longer light hours came ever-more responsibilities for the Captain of the Red Wings – the least of which was certainly not overseeing new recruits. Given the prestige of the corps, rivalled only by that of Kain's heritage, only fourteen were lined up before him, and few of them were truly green. Although a few of them did look like they were barely old enough to formally serve.

Those, his eyes lingered on – though it was never long enough to give any hint to the question that hid behind his cold gaze. And as he looked over them, each in turn, the Holy Dragoon himself may as well have been made of stone; were it not for the slow, even footsteps that carried him down the line, he might have been mistaken for a statue with the way he held his chin up, shoulders back – the posture of a man with military discipline etched into his very bones.

(Perhaps as a result, only a blessed few of them dared to meet his eyes.)

And at the line's end, he let out a sigh so soft as to be barely audible, and an ever-so-subtle smile crept across his lips.

“Welcome to the Red Wings.”

so it's been a while?? sorry about that. also lol psyche that's the end of the writing thing i wanted to make it at least look like i've been productive. i haven't. but at least i have 4 lv60 classes in xiv eh???? (drg nin btn and min! i have no life. but i do have a house so i'm already better off than the 90%.) i'm going to try to be more active here but i can't make any guarantees really, mostly because IV isn't really a super popular game and i... don't really like crossovers at all, and the only reason i kind of allow them is because i'd like to keep the door open for interactions... but at the same time while i love kain i kind of feel like i've written myself into a corner with him. since well my headcanons about his attitudes toward other characters are pretty specific. and all. that said i guess i'll try and make a verses page since i do have some aus for him, but i also kind of wanna throw out the fact that i'm completely open to plan au interactions insofar as it's, like, an au where both our characters fit the setting. none of that "oh i'm suddenly in this world or that world, hi there" stuff; i kind of actually really hate that genre. kind of like "i'm kind of lost" intro threads. tell kain that you're lost and his first instinct will probably be to direct most people to a tailor, kek also insofar as non-general aus go i'm also gonna go ahead and make it a thing that i'm only goign to participate in interactions w/ aus planned between two people... with that other person orz because technically the aus aren't... canon... at all. and i'm usually only invested with them with the other/s i've bounced them around with. /flopstheyre just for fun rly needless to say everything is basically dropped, i mean, i was looking forward to some stuff over here but i k i n d a feel like a piece of shit for disappearing without warning again and i mean i don't expect people to reply to stuff i was waiting on if ive been waitin for stuff for like a million years. at some point its just kinda dropped in my head so....idkidk if people could direct me toward other iv blogs that would be great though?? because i mean other ff games are nice and all but... i get the most out of rping with other characters from the same verse, thats just how it is?? shrug at this point i may as well just stay gone because lol wat is ffiv fandom but i love kain so

"Daddy!" Arms reaching up to the taller man after a hard tug or three on his pant leg. Forget about trying to be stealthy to surprise Kain; it was working too well when his presence went ignored and now he wanted attention. Ark whines at his father, hopping on his toes because he's moving much too slow to stoop down and scoop him up. "Daaaa--"

» A slight smile crept to Kain’s lips at the sound of his son’s voice at the tugging at his pants. Blue eyes finishes skimming over the contents of some letter or another -- from a long-time friend in the Dragoon Corps -- before he folded the letter neatly and turned to scoop up the child in one fluid motion. 

“Here we go--I can’t hold you forever, you know,” he said. But... He certainly could for now, wasn’t that right? Even if the boy was getting a bit heavy for Kain to carry without his back complaining, he couldn’t very well spurn Ark’s pleas for love or for affection; Kain knew well enough how that felt.

Also, he kind of thought it was cute...

» The sun did little to dispell the late-autumn chill that embraced Baron in its entirety. Where some may complained, though, that it was too early in the year to be seeing one's own breath (at least in the dew-speckled early morning, which had long passed) the brisk air was something that at the very least Kain readily welcomed. It was better than the heat of summer, at least, and it was especially nice when the fair weather lasted even long past high noon, when usually the cool spell wore off and it felt more like early September than mid-November, when the days were still comparatively long with early sunrises and late sunsets.

A perfect day for a few drills, a bit of training with the young prince. Kain only took a few moments to descend from his perch atop the wall, landing in a crouch before standing. Missing was the lance that he carried into battle, replaced with the sort that young dragoons trained with: blunted and much less ornate than his own, but similar enough in weight and size that it served as a decent enough aid in keeping his balance upon landing (always the hardest part when he was just learning, given the fact that human bodies and heights generally did not get along very well...).

“Well?”

Perhaps there was a note of impatience... He turned his gaze upward then, focusing on a ledge situated about halfway up the wall he was just on – about as high as Kain expected from someone who wasn't directly descended from dragoons, though not rightfully. Ceodore had a habit, after all, of exceeding Kain's expectations. In a way, it kept Kain on his toes, kept him asking for more (no use coddling the boy, after all), and almost always pleasantly surprised not that he would ever admit it.

i ran coils the night before last and although i tried to channel my inner kain mostly i just ate some serious floor. in iv usually kain is the last one alive b/c Strategic Jumps; i was usually the first one dead. i hate t3. but t4 is my HOOOOME!!! i should work on my fic lol i'm on break now so i can sit down and write-- but for now i do have a starter to do! i'll pass the starter call around again in case anyone else wants one, hah.

today was pretty good for a monday already but when i come home what do i find to greet me? an acceptance letter from one of my top-choice colleges, featuring a $17,000 scholarship—— business to be taken care of a little bit later after a nice session of xiv; this needs time to sink in...
