Dr Allen Menkin has been in the medical field for decades and witnessed the developments in genetic research. Clones are exact genetic copies of other biological organisms, meaning that they have exactly the same DNA as some other being. They were a subject of science fiction novels until they suddenly became a reality and were all over the news. Probably the most famous clone of all time is a sheep named Dolly. Dolly lived from 1996 to 2003. She was cloned by Ian Wilmut and Keith Campbell of the Rosin Institute at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Dolly died from a progressive lung disease. Scientists cloned Dolly using a cell they took from a mammary gland of another sheep, proving that it was possible to create a healthy whole clone from just one cell taken from a certain body part.

Very few people are concerned about ethical issues when it comes to cloning animals. The big question has to deal with people cloning people. People may want to clone humans for two main reasons. The first reason is using stem cells from cloned humans to grow and harvest genetically identical organs. The second one is to allow couples without children have genetically related children.

Human cloning would be similar to conceiving and raising non-cloned humans. A human clone would need to be brought to term in the womb and then be raised just like any other child. This also means that if you were a forty-year-old human who wanted to create a clone of yourself, it would take you forty years plus nine months to raise one.

Ethical problems with clones have to do with explaining to the clones that they are clones, which means that they were raised as copies of someone else and not created as unique individuals such as Dr Allen Menkin.
