Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead. The consciousness of loving and being loved brings a warmth and a richness to life that nothing else can bring.

(30.8 x 53.6 x 5.1 cm.) Stella had more than 1 work called Ouray, on which this 1 is based as appropriated by Pettibone. โ๏ธโ๐ถ๐๐ป๐จ"Pettibone is considered to be a pioneer of Appropriation Art that was popular among several artists during the second half of the 20th century. Appropriation Art is the โpractice of quoting, copying or deforming objects or pre-existing works of art,โ & became quite popular among his contemporaries. The irony in Pettiboneโs work was that he recreated works of famous avant-garde artists who themselves produced works that were a replication in some form. After graduation, he worked on a series of miniature replica paintings that were painted on handmade stretcher bars. These paintings were of the same proportions as the ones found in the Art Forum magazine. This creation mirrored his interest in craft, construction and model making that included toy trains & airplanes. At the age of 26, he made a two miniature replicas of โCampbell Soup Can (Pepper Pot)โ by Andy Warhol, one in gray & the other in green. He stamped his name as well as Warholโs name on it. This along with the life size replica of Duchampโs 1913 โBicycle Wheelโ made Pettibone a figure that couldnโt be ignored. It was at this time that he appropriated the paintings of famous Pop Artists such as Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Jasper Johns & Roy Lichtenstein." As many members of the rising West Coast art scene of the sixties, Pettibone followed the latest trends from New York City through exhibition catalogues and magazines, in particular Artforum, a then recently launched magazine in which Pop Art was regularly illustrated in color spreads. He did not directly respond to the printed reproductions per se: it was, rather, the gap between these reproductions, the expectations created, & the experience of viewing the actual works that interested him.
