DHrFavorites Day 1: Favourite Antagonist
âShe is nothing to me, my Lord.â
âIs that so?â Bloodless, spiderlike fingers twirl around the length of a bone-white wand. âLegilimens!â
A blank white slate for the barest of moments, and thenâ
And then the corridors of Hogwarts; Densaugeo, Granger growing fangsâspitting insults at her in the snowâwishing her dead in their second year (he pushes this to the forefront of his mind but swallows every ounce of guilt heâd felt when sheâd actually almost died)âlaughing at her whenever Snape had put her down in Potionsâ
âHmmmm,â murmurs the Dark Lord, as he withdraws from Dracoâs mind. âYou know, Draco, the mind is truly a remarkable thing,â he says, almost conversationally.
âYes, my Lord,â says Draco, as he pushes himself to his feet.
âYesâŠ, he drawls. âYes, quite remarkable⊠No two are alike. And yetâŠâÂ
The room grows cold.
âAnd yet,â he continues, âyours is quite like anotherâs.â
A scarlet gaze locks on his and itâs as though everything else in the room has disappeared. Before he can help it, Draco gulps.
âSeverus Snape failed me, Draco. Do not fail me.â
Dracoâs eyes snap to the terrified amber ones across the room. She gives him the barest shake of her head.
âO-of course, my Lord. I live to serve.â
âNo, Draco,â says the Dark Lord, turning away at last. âYou serve to live.â
