basically same thing that happened with sanguinea. i recently remade my species list based on MarBEF data, as i am generally uneducated and not particularly resourceful when it comes to technology, i have to take things at face value more to not waste as much time. its hard to find a consensus on how many chelidonura species there are & any sort of picture to reference.... but here we are!
the original description i found for the orchidaea is from Bolletino Malacologico vol 26, discovered by Perrone in the Gulf of Taranto.
creative liberty was taken here because 1) no reference pictures except for this black & white one, 2) the text is in italian, which i hastily google translated inbetween overwatch rounds, i don't doubt that it may have reworded something inaccurate and 3) a lot of big science words i barely just learned & cant remotely visualize yet. but creative liberty taken especially because there are no reference pictures and im too stubborn to not, at the very least, TRY to finish my list
this one will be tagged as #speculative slug. originals:
my personal list of (most) chelidonura species to draw was previously trimmed down to about 11, consisting right now of all the ones i posted so far.
on one hand, wikipedia lists 17, although most of these were also reclassified, and on the other hand, and much more credibly, woRMS also lists 17. this routine has turned into a great deal of importance for me, so trying to get it a little right matters, i want to draw all the chelidonura species. so here we are:
chelidonura sanguinea does not exist on the web. there are no pictures, no detailed descriptions, absolutely fuckall... the only proof of existence it has is from woRMS' accepted status & taxonomic citation.
the original description of the species is from a journal written all the way back in 1933 by J.K. allan, when it was also falsely classified as aglaia sanguinea. the journal is literally the only reference i had for this gal, and seemingly, was the sole specimen of this species, because i have not seen any other mentions of it.
artistic liberty was pleasurably taken for today’s slug. if i am wrong, then i am wrong. preemptively i have added a new tag #speculative slug in the scenario that i have to make up some bullshit again. her name is carrie.
