O‘ahu Island, Hawaii: Oahu is the most populated and third-largest of the Hawaiian Islands. The island of Oahu and the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands constitute the City and County of Honolulu. The state capital, Honolulu, is on Oahu's southeast coast. The Island of Oahu in Hawaii is often nicknamed, as "The Gathering Place". Before the day ends on the west coast I wanna say it’s the 156th anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad!!! On May 10, 1869 Central Pacific 61 “Jupiter” and Union Pacific 119 met at Promontory, Utah to drive the final golden spike into what would become the first railroad to span the US coast to coast. I decided to pair them with SP 4449 and UP 844, their spiritual successors as the last remaining iconic passenger steam locomotives from each railroad. Jupiter and UP 119 are preserved in Promontory to this day, SP 4449 is in Portland, Oregon and UP 844 is in Cheyenne, Wyoming in operable condition. Happy promontory day!!!
