I really enjoy drawing the guys from Apocalyptica, but also have to work on new pieces for my visual development portfolio. Then one day I said to myself… Why not do both things at the same time? And so this happened.

At the beginning I was very enthusiastic, but when I started to make the first sketches I felt kind of intimidated by the amount of research I had to do in order to make the designs resemble the real guys. This project wasn’t like designing original characters, where there is more creative freedom since it’s something you’re taking out of your mind. The real challenge of this little project was to depict the guys in a comic/animation-like style without making them a caricature, and to synthesize their features while maintaining their resemblance to the real life guys.

This was particularly hard because even though I could use photos and videos from concerts and interviews as references, I was still lacking the life experience of watching them in person, since I’ve never had the chance to go to any of their concerts so far. Luckily, my friends from the fanbase who have met them several times helped me with their stories about the concerts they have been to, so I could get their expressions and overall nature more closer to how they really are. 

Maybe one day I’ll finally meet them in person and see for myself if I got their characters right :P

#ThankyouApo

Hey there guys!! Seems like the band’s 20th anniversary is next tuesday according to Eicca while talking on the Yahoo livestream a couple of weeks ago.

Let’s give the guys a nice gift for 20 years of awesome music and beautiful experiences by sharing our favorite moments in the fanbase, our stories of concerts and meet & greets, how the band’s music helped us to overcome our fears and worst moments, and the things we make inspired by the band, with the hashtag #ThankyouApo this tuesday. 

Although all social media posts count, if we want them to see something of what we share it’s a little bit more guaranteed that could happen if we use the hashtag in facebook, twitter and most importantly instagram. 

The hashtag thing might stretch out by the whole week, since we want to give chance to most of fans to share their content. Even if the guys don’t notice the hashtag, at least we could do this for ourselves, because it feels nice to share about the things we are so pasisonate about <3

This is the project i’ve been talking before that i made along with the inktober (yeah i’m taking too long to post)

Sooooo… I’ve been invited to a fanbook for the band, Apocalyptica, made by my good friend, the talented Larissa and our friend Sarah the editor in the UK and this project’s starter… with the thematic of their new album, Shadowmaker

also… this was an experimental illustration set.. this is mixed media, watercolor and markers on paper, and then colored in photoshop and sai

I promised myself to post it when the book’s ready so… i hope you like it now that you saw ;)

This time last year, I made a promise to Eicca - that I would “be brave” in regards to art. I certainly took it as a challenge at the time, because it’s what inspired me to want to put together the “Shadowmakers” art book for the band. But now since I find myself facing another shadowmaker pretty similar to the last, the memories of the journey that my promise took me on will serve as the courage I need to kick this shadowy fucker in its ugly face. Honestly I’ve never before received such heartfelt gratitude as I got from Eicca either, and remembering that has also helped me not lose my shit over the past few weeks. If I had money I’d honestly throw it at him just to fly over and give me a big old hug every other week/month, he’s so good at that shit!

Anyway, I’m rambling. Basically - I think Eicca is a top fucking bloke. That’s not news to anyone I’m sure, but it’s why I painted this specifically right now. Yeah. O3O Enjoy!
