Star Trek craft book, I am begging you to describe this craft project in literally any other combination of words
this scene felt very,,, insensitive, and I don't know why?
Reagan has a talent for calming down mentally ill men with glowing eyes under the influence of some mind altering plot device
@amanda-519 this is an excellent point.
There is an interesting similarity between Ron and Brett in that both of them seem… to not really know how to confront their own feelings in a healthy way? Or at least, not in the healthiest way for THEM. Ron and Brett are so different, but that is one defining trait they both seem to share (in my interpretation of course). Like, both Ron and Brett kind of try and dance around their own feelings, though they both express it in different ways.
Ron LITERALLY withdraws when he and Reagan reach a crossroads in their relationship; he leaves her on read for days and only comes back when he’s created a solution on his own. This is an aspect of their relationship that I find the unhealthiest, but it’s clear Ron isn’t doing it to be manipulative, but because he fears confronting Reagan in a conversation without having his eggs in one basket. Ron has mentioned fearing getting close to others and seems to struggle with relationships as a whole, and this stems from his intense guilt-complex and dislike for what he has to do for a job. I think this guilt tends to manifest in Ron being very solution-oriented; he only messaged Reagan back when he came up with a “plan” (the Appleton idea), but this also makes him avoid difficult and very needed conversations.
Brett has the opposite reaction; he doesn’t physically pull away and puts his all into his relationships, but he also tends to be kind of avoidant of his own emotional needs. Rather than stemming from catholic guilt like Ron, it stems from emotional neglect and abuse. Brett sees his own feelings as less important to others, and tends to push them aside. This is also a trait he’s working out of by the end of the season.
But, in both the Nostalgia Max incident and the Rome incident, both guys are confronted with their worst instincts; Brett is consumed by his desire for a healthy family to the point of turning into a literal monster, and Ron is consumed by his own guilt to the point that he can’t focus on the present and can’t do anything but wallow in his own misery. All of the negative feelings both of them try to not think about too much come bubbling to the surface.
But Reagan really isn’t the type of woman to be in denial, or at least not excessively? I don’t feel like she tries to really pretend that things are a certain way, or really lies to herself. When she realized Rand had erased her memories, what did she do? Declare war on his ass and disown him. When Buzz Aldrin turned out to be nuts, what did she do? Yell in his face and call him a psycho. Like, Reagan is so frank about her reality that, when she learns something new, she IMMEDIATELY learns from previous mistakes and moves on. This is why I think Reagan is so good at talking them down when they were kind of losing it. Not only is she close to both of them, and both Brett and Ron care a lot for her, but I think she’s just so real with people when she tells them things. When Brett had turned into a Nostalgia Monster, she reassured him by insisting that she and the gang were his family. And when Ron is riddled with Catholic Guilt, she reassured him that he shouldn’t be ashamed of himself.
I just want her to be happy
Colored it in :)))
Ron and Color Symbolism (spoilers)
One thing I noticed (and it might not have been intentional by the Inside Job team) was that Ron has a bit of a color motif going on.
So, the first time we see Ron, he’s wearing the purple Illuminati robe. It’s very ornate and covered in gold, and honestly feels very flashy and dramatic for a guy like him. At this point in the story, he’s still entrenched in the shadow government and fulfilling his given role, but to Reagan (and the audience) he’s just another Illuminati asshole whose giving her grief.
When we later see him, he’s still wearing purple, with his tie and goggles, but unlike before, he’s not covered head to toe in it and looks more comfortable, if work-appropriate. Coincidentally, this is also the point in the story when Reagan and Ron first get close to each other, and later become intimate, and also the point where we meet the other Illuminati heads for comparison to Ron as a character. Both purple items are also the easiest to remove (the goggles can simply be pulled off and the tie can be loosened).
Ron’s later outfit when he and Reagan go to Rome pushes this even further. He and Reagan are wearing purple, but Ron only has a hint of it in the handkerchief of his pocket. The shade of purple also leans more towards blue, which is a calm, soothing color, and arguably much more fitting for Ron’s personality than the gaudy shade of purple that belongs to the Illuminati. I would argue that I’m this context, purple is a color associated with the illuminati, and blue is associated with emotional openness and Ron’s true self. I’ll go back on this later.
In the Halloween episode, Ron, for the first time, forgoes the purple completely. Instead, Orange is the primary color. Orange is near opposite purple on the color wheel, and is a complementary color that’s often paired with purple. It makes sense that Ron is wearing a different, warm toned color when he first truly interacts with Cognito and is trying to join them; he feels out of place. Reagan is also wearing a hint of orange, so the two of them are matching again (though it’s unintentional this time). Reagan is also being dishonest in trying to portray Cognito at its best (when it’s still terrifying and chaotic as hell).
The last outfit we see Ron in is much more casual, with a blue open shirt and loose pants. I’d argue that this outfit feels the most authentic to Ron; it’s not a costume like the “I’m here for the Boos” one, and he’s not dressed to impress like his date with Reagan or for his work. And not a hint of purple. It’s at this point where Ron has completely forgone the Illuminati in favor of pursuing a completely different life with Reagan. This outfit is also the one he wears as he finally sheds his old identity and embraces a new life as Martin.
By coincidence, today's the day part 2 is released. I'm soooooo hyped right now🔥🔥
inside out or smthn
I just think they're neat
I would vote for him tbh, even if he is awful to Brett
IM SO SORRY
The outfit from the Myc episode and I wanted to draw her happy for once
