Remix of TAS' Yesteryear where McCoy winds up going back in the Guardian of Forever instead of Spock to avoid the paradox of Spock encountering himself and meets child Spock out on the kahs-wan.
Does he jump in front of the le-matya instead of I-Chaya and save Spock? Does that screw up the timeline, or have some other effect, giving child Spock a lesson on the best of humanity but also the potential of emotional choices to lead to self-destruction? Does young Spock step up for the first time to help the injured man, telling him, "we go together, or not at all?"
Does he save Spock medically after Spock is attacked (how does he know how to do that, nobody understands child Spock's half-Vulcan, half-human physiology--who is this man)? Is Spock so embarrassed at his failure that he resolves either to be more Vulcan, or stop trying to be Vulcan at all? Does Sarek begin to see things differently after his son's body heals, at the hands of a human doctor, no less?
Or does he give I-Chaya peace in the sehlat's final moments, trying desperately not to think about the last time he offered that kind of mercy, and knowing he'll at least save Spock's father a few decades down the line?
Does Spock figure it out, or does he always think of that mysterious, kindly figure who should have had no place on Vulcan, until the katra transfer reveals a memory of McCoy's he's deliberately kept hidden for a long time--Spock realizing why he implicitly trusts this man with his soul?

Hey, Canada! That’s where I live.
(I realize it was likely the style at the time, but that suit jacket could probably fit two of him inside. He’s a doctor, not a sailboat…)
One thing I treasure about this parallel in TOS is that it reminds us that being a “good person,” while it can ultimately become part of our being, is a series of constant, difficult choices. We are shaped by our experience and circumstances, and choosing to do good is more difficult in some situations and for some people than others.
It’s much more admirable knowing that Jim makes the choice over and over again to do the “good” thing, despite everything that has happened to him, so that he becomes the person the people who know him best think of as having an unassailable goodness, rather than just making a simple claim that some people are born to goodness and some are not. This extends to every character on the show, and into our own lives.
Goodness is not who we are, it’s what we do. Eventually, those actions become “what kind of people” we are. Knowing the other choice was possible makes the decision more meaningful.
Spoils of war from the Starfleet Academy set auction. It’s too bad that Paramount has basically cancelled all the Treks, but that’s a discussion for another time. I will have this in my home and cherish it, which I think is better than it going in the garbage. And part of the proceeds went to DoSomething.org.
I did not buy this item. My home is not that large. (But I had to sneak a pic. Pickup was on the studio lot.)
So, there was one last auction…
A turbolift door handle…
Alfarian Hair Pasta…yummy!
Lab equipment made from a pepper grinder, with Star Trek’s traditional “47” reference
A Starfleet Academy instrument (there is an image inside if you look through the base, but I can’t photograph it)
And, everyone’s favourite, a bottle of triple-brewed raktajino.
I will now stop outfitting my abode in pieces of Starfleet Academy. But I think that turbolift handle is going on my office door.
Bonus:
Take your turbolift handle on the bus for maximum irony.
Happy 20th anniversary to They're Taking the Hobbits to Isengard specifically

(Thank you to Kepi and @markcampbells of the McSpirk Discord for this terrible idea)
So I was finishing up my grading at the end of the semester, and I had promised myself that, if I finally made it to the finish line, I would pre-order the new Exo-6 Wrath of Khan Bones figurine.
As if to taunt me, Exo-6 sent a picture of the new face sculpt, which looked better but...could have been presented a little less terrifyingly. I was forced to make a silly image for Discord.
I then went to paste a comment into a dropbox and forgot that I'd copied McCoy's disembodied head since I last copied that comment.
So anyway, this is the story of how I almost sent a student this as a comment:
...but he's a doctor, not a secondary source.
DeForest Kelley in an interview
closer...closer
...too close
Best type of episode
Jim: Don’t worry, Bones. This isn’t my first rodeo.
Jim (voiceover): What I neglected to tell Bones was that this was my second rodeo. And that my first had resulted in three broken ribs and a concussion, so that one was kind of hazy.
