My favourite thing to do in a forest is lie down and look up! The southern rÄtÄ on Auckland island is moulded by the wind into a very even canopy. Itâs beautiful in the evening light.

Wanted to share this with you guys as this photo shows a great example of crown shyness! Crown shyness is the phenomenon in which fully grown trees of the canopy grow so thereâs always some distance between them, creating these channel-like patterns. Nobodyâs quite sure why this happens, but damage due to wind, and prevention of shading are the leading hypotheses.Â
why are we here? just to suffer? every day the Avatar destroys my cabbage cart
I love this.
Listen, Iâm part of the generation that uses humor to cope, I love all the memes about 2020 just as much as you guys do. I laugh at the âwe got the real roaring 20âČsâ, âwe wanted 2020 to be a movie but we got the wrong genreâ, âwe really thought 2020 would be our yearâ sardonic tweets.
But to the people like me, who really thought 2020 would be their year?
Love, Iâm so sorry. Iâm so sorry you walked into this year with a smile and hope, and that smile immediately fell, and that hope was immediately crushed
Iâm sorry that every day thereâs something else, Iâm sorry that youâre scared, Iâm sorry that youâre angry, Iâm sorry that youâre tired.
And I know, I know that youâre having a hard time hoping again. Trust me, I know.
But this year, Adam Castillejo became the second person to be cured of HIV
This year, James Patterson art up a fund to help Indie bookstores
This year, scientists finally managed to record the narwhalÂ
This year, White Storks have hatched the first wild chicks in 600 years
This year, the worlds largest open-air gallery was opened with paintings by individuals with learning disabilities
This year, an eleven year old skateboarder landed the worlds first 1080 degree turn
This year, scientists mapped the entire surface of the moon for the first time ever
This year, Sweden and Austria closed their last coal plants
This year, White Tailed Eagles are spotted flying over England for the first time in 240 years
This year, NASA launched astronauts to a US space station for the first time since 2011
To all the people like me, who thought 2020 was their year: Weâre here. Weâre alive. The world will grow. The world will heal. Maybe 2020 isnât our year of stress free fun and memories, but it can be our year to learn and stand up and fight, so that next year? We get everything we hoped for.
Donât give up, donât leave. Thereâs a world waiting for you.
âPerhaps one of the biggest challenges of life is creating the perfect balance between all aspects that exist with in your world.â

Important
your relationship doesnât have to be toxic to be a bad one. it can be unfulfilling, exhausting, loveless. and someone doesnât have to be terrible to you for you to leave them. if you arenât primarily happy in your relationship, you have a valid reason to not be in it. donât beat yourself up because your situation âcould be worse.â if it isnât what you want, you donât have to stay in it.
This is great advice for all kinds of relationships.
âLike the difference between night and day, a particular mindset can truly make all the difference. How does your mind see things?â
â Nicole Addison @thepowerwithin

tender quotes:
1. âThe number of hours we have together is actually not so large. Please linger near the door uncomfortably instead of just leaving. Please forget your scarf in my life and come back later for it.â (mikko harvey, from âfor m,â)
2. âI still feel like the world is a piece of bread, Iâm holding out half to you.â (eileen myles)
3. âWherever you are itâs okay. You can come back from it. Whatever happened to you down there, whatever the world looks like now, thatâs not how it always looks. Thatâs not how itâs always going to look. Thereâs more. Thereâs always more.â (patrick ness, from âmore than thisâ)
4. âI was making dinner and I got a message. Go look outside, she said, go look at the sunset. My apartment is small, with four rooms and two windows that donât see much light so I had no idea. I pulled my coat on and hurried out. I was running to this sunset, suddenly the only thing that mattered. I hurried past the taller buildings to the park and the sky was leaking shades of pink and purple. It was beautiful and fleeting, there one minute and gone the next. I wouldâve missed it; I almost kissed it. And so I started thinking, how great it would be to get a nudge, a tap on your shoulder, a moment or two before your life changes. Stop what youâre doing and look around, youâll want to remember this later. In a minute, youâre going to fall in love.â (kelsey danielle, from âunexpected sunsetâ)
5. âToday is a day like any other: twenty-four hours, a little sunshine, a little rain. Listen, says ambition, nervously shifting her weight from one boot to anotherâwhy donât you get going? For there I am, in the mossy shadows, under the trees. And to tell the truth I donât want to let go of the wrists of idleness, I donât want to sell my life for money, I donât even want to come in out of the rain.â (mary oliver, from âblack oaksâ)
