Signed and dated 1819, this watercolor shows why Pierre-Joseph Redouté became known as one of history’s greatest flower painters.

Blue asters, a white wild rose, harebells, violas and carnations are painted with extraordinary precision on vellum, a surface that gives the flowers their soft, luminous appearance. Even the tiny water droplets on the petals remain visible more than 200 years later.

The original is held at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. Fine art prints are available at Meisterdrucke.
