The Final End of Year Show
Statement
In my first project to do with materiality, my work explored the relationship between the process of repetition, sequences, grids and recycling of material. I also looked at linear space and how they associate with negative space. I got to work with material a lot which then fed my second, Subject Matter project. The subject that interested me was the bus, bus journeys and travelling overall. I kind of stuck with the idea of repeated images for a while, joining bus images together into a collage looking figure. Once I started working with mixed media and materials though, I seemed to get lost. I started looking at linear space which went back more to my first project. There was too many directions I wanted to go in and look at.
In the end I decided to explore the aspect of mapping more. I looked at artists such as Kathy Prendergast and Julie Mehretu where they used maps as part of their work. My work overall seems to create an emotional impact while looking at it. The sense of anger ripping through it. The tension between chaos and imposed order, the concrete and the imaginary.
Statement for Show
Initially the subject that interested me was the bus, bus journeys and travelling overall. I began my project by collecting things that reminded me of that such as tickets, bus routes, leaflets, logos, taking photos of the actual bus as well as the people at it. Then I took photos of the bus while it’s in motion. The blurry rural and urban landscapes which followed on my journey home and the people who were unaware. I sketched while moving and ended up with pretty abstract landscapes of whatever caught my attention on the way.
Once I started working with mixed media and materials though, I seemed to get lost. There was too many directions I wanted to go in and look at. I decided to explore the aspect of mapping more. My work overall seems to create an emotional impact while looking at it. The sense of anger ripping through it. The tension between chaos and imposed order, the concrete and the imaginary, the known and unknown. I wanted to show that humans have an impact on the landscape, same as if you stand on the map, you leave a footprint.
As you stand on the map and leave a footprint, the same way you leave a mark on the land..
The wire installation stands for the road lines we see on the map. I wanted it to be random so that it wouldn't be possible to tell what is where..
Some pieces I made in response to the work of Kathy Prendergast and Julie Mehretu.
Feeding back from my previous project, I kind of stuck with the notion of repetition and wanted to capture the repeated journey I took everyday with the bus by making line marks and prints.

Second project: Subject Matter
Starting of with taking a lot of photos, I then printed them out and played around joining them together
Statement for the Materiality Project.
My fascination with letting objects repeat and repeat… shows my belief that we spend much of our lives seeing without observing. My work explores the relationship between the process of repetition, sequences, grids and recycling of material. With the influence of Pae White works and also Eva Hesse’s sculpture “Sans ll”, where her repeatedly created layers of resin hung besides each other. With the use of recycled medium, I created the same thing numerous times transforming it into an art form. I am using repetition as subject matter as a way to see the process. Each recreation despite the same process, have their individual qualities and uniqueness. They’re similar yet they’re different. In my project, I also looked at linear space and how they associate with negative space. I learned not only to see the subject, but also to observe the details
Using materials to show the repeated pattern as well as the process
