What is Your Curse?
Something walks behind you. Something twists through your spine. Something that marks you, mars you– something you can never be without. You bear a curse.
Take the quiz here!
actually, no, i do have something to add. if your work of fanfiction can be easily rebranded and sold as original fiction, then it was never good fanfiction in the first place—and, in all probability, it won’t make for very good original (well, “original”) fiction either. i have a lot of love and respect for all kinds of derivative works (perhaps unsurprisingly, considering my perennial love affair with postmodernism), but i also believe that the superior fics are the ones that actively and continuously engage with their source material, therefore making it all but impossible for anyone—even the author—to simply file the serial numbers off and promote it as something else entirely; at least not without damaging the work’s internal integrity. something something mutualism (the derivative work deconstructing and expanding on the source material and so keeping it alive) as opposed to parasitism (thinking you can simply lift your blorbos wholesale and run but failing to realise that uprooting them from their respective stories will render them but a shadow of a reflection of their original selves).
sometimes, it dawns on me just how incredibly happy i am that fanfic exists as a medium. like, the amount of experiences had, the excitement and thrills and tears and joy—and more—that writers of fic can give to so, so many people... it's immeasurable; it's wonderful.
and just. what an amazing thought, you know? in a world where we're all struggling to get by, recognising this beautiful thing we have created, knowing that we're all sharing in taking some sort of pleasure/lesson/comfort etc from reading and/or writing it?
that's really special.

ao3 authors are literally the backbone of society (my mental health)
if remus lupin and sirius black are not soulmates why scorpio and pisces? why moon and stars?? why dog and wolf?????
everyone’s comfort characters are either gay, mass murderers, mentally unstable or just straight up dead or all of these
honestly give me a thunderstorm, a gothic castle, some candles, a mesmerising ball gown, a tragic love letter stained with tears and a knife strapped to my thigh, and i will be completely content for the next century or so
sometimes you read a fanfiction to distract and enjoy yourself but you end up reading a dialogue or a sentence that fundamentally changes who you are as a person and how you perceive the world around you, and honestly i wouldn't have it any other way
in each of the (too many.) fandoms i am in, i have this one fic that i read only once every few years because it is so perfect that i want to wait until i don't remember what it is about exactly, if only to feel at least a little bit like i'm reading it for the first time again. like yeah now that my memory is a little foggy let me revisit the chokehold this author has me in
