I literally said basically this same thing to a man.

At my job, a small local business, there are only 2 hole-in-the-wall-gas-station style restrooms. They are labeled "men" and "ladies", which absolutely short-circuits the wrong kind of people.

There are dudes will NOT use the ladies' room no matter HOW LONG they have to wait for the men's, and vice versa -but it's rare as rocking-horse shit for the ladies- even though the rooms are literally identical on the inside.

I say to the man, "you can go ahead and use the ladies room. I don't let a sign stop me when time is of the essence. They're exactly the same inside. It's just like a bathroom in your house."

He says, "In my house, I don't have to worry about some (air-quotes) "trans-woman" man in a dress coming in while I'm in there."

Ok, first of all, there's only room for one person, and secondly, there's a lock.

He goes OFF. All the same BS talking points that you'll hear in right-wing propaganda media.

So, when he finally ends his rant, I say to him, "so we agree that the problem is men, then?"

And he just left. No longer did he need to use the restroom.

He. Just. Left.

the wuthering heights situation really is a great example of how much power a producer has on a set or film.
