I WOULD DO IT! I WOULD KISS A FROG! I WOULD KISS A HUNDRED FROGS IF IT MEANT I COULD MARRY A PRINCE & BE A PRINCESS!
closed event starter for: @dreamtlove location: summer solstice ball, post-chaos.
tommy had been doing sweeps of the room as best he could, trying his best to focus on damage control rather than his usual knack for creating the damage — it was an adjustment, he thought about the fact a couple of tommy-made explosions could probably clean out some of the plant life or animated knights, but there were probably enough things combusting for one evening. so, tackling and punching it was.
there was a flash of pink in his peripheral that caught his attention during one of his circuits around the ballroom and he halted to a stop, using one of the knights as a means to slow down — two birds, one stone. “hey, are you alright … ma’am?” his mouth, one of the only parts of him visible, scrunched slightly at his wording. tommy stepped closer to her, offering her a helping hand in case it was needed.
“can i get you somewhere safe? take you to someone?”
simply put, charlotte la bouff is not having a good time. at a ball, no less—which is embarrassing for a woman of her class. though, at this point, she would hardly call it a ball anymore; more like a haunted mansion. she’ll swear she’s seen a few demons running around, one giant skeleton, and a malicious tree that's been tossing guests through the air. lottie claims a spot behind an overturned table, crouched low beneath its cover. mostly to keep out of the tree’s reach—but also to avoid the occasional empty suit of armor that lurches her way. in response, she’s taken to hurling abandoned champagne flutes at them. her aim isn’t particularly good, but there are plenty to spare, and every so often one finds its mark. unfortunately, all she’s really accomplished is leaving the floor glittering with shattered glass. “ do i look alright to you? what the hell is goin’ on here? ” more of a growl than a question, a mix of frustration and fear. she throws her arms out in a sharp, exasperated gesture; rolled ankle & hair falling out of its once-perfected updo. “ and just how are you gonna do that— ” she gives him a once-over, her gaze lingering just long enough to size him up. “ captain tight-pants? ”
honestly, he was kind of a mess with events like this. dewey had been to dances before in his lifetime, but it didn't feel like this one. he thought maybe this would be something he could focus on not causing a scene for once, blend into the background, slow down a bit. so far that seemed to be the case, but the night wasn't over. he still had plenty of time to cause problems, even if he was doing his best to have a nice relaxing night. "that's easier said than done. i mean sometimes people tell me things and then it's in one ear and out the other cause there's a million other problems happening around me." he hadn't been overstimulated in a long time. ever since leaving the mcduck manor and taking some time away from that lifestyle, he wasn't used to the overstimulation of being around big crowds of people.
"i'm used to other types of chaos," he shrugged. "you don't know chaos until you've got to fight off a bunch of robots that have turned on their programming." or looked for answers to questions that he shouldn't have been looking for. "oh, thanks." he looked at her dress. "your outfit is very pink." dewey wasn't good at figuring out what to say in these situations. "it felt right for the theme." there wasn't much of a theme, people were in all sorts of different outfits. "and of course i wanted to stand out among my siblings." but they all stood out for their own reasons.
“ i don’t think tonight’s gonna throw a million other problems your way. ” she offers him a reassuring smile, waving a hand dismissively. “ if anythin’ goes wrong, it’ll probably just be somebody spillin’ champagne on the dance floor. nothin’ to fret over. ” mouth falls agape, unsure of how to respond to rebellious robots, before promptly shutting it with a slow nod. “ that’s… somethin’, all right! must’ve been a handful to deal with. ” not anything lottie has remotely any experience with; at most, she’s had to call tech support about her wifi router running slow, or how she had short-circuited the generator at home—which, admittedly, had been partly her fault, seeing she ran every salon appliance in the house at once. “ i’m just glad you made it out okay… only story i’ve got that’s even close to that is my best friend turnin’ into a frog for a little while.” an absurd comparison, considering it hadn't even happened to lottie herself, but she offers it without a hint of embarrassment. “ oh, siblings! were they right there with you through all that? ”
sylvie had watched the resources drain from the coffers of her people over the years. she watched her step mother take and take from everyone until they had nothing left. she didn't let sylvie keep a penny to her name in anything other than making sure sylvie was well kept. wealth was not something that she was accustomed to, regardless of being a princess. her father and mother had spread the wealth they had with their people. living in a protected castle was enough for her parents. as long as they were safe, sylvie was safe, their money went back to the people, to the kingdom. but when her parents were gone, sylvie watched that disappear from their lives, the steady flow of money they had from their king and queen instead hoarded away. now, she wasn't accustomed to a fruitful life, only saved some money from her job, making sure she contributed to the household. she still knew that she wanted to look nice for the ball regardless.
"they can't help it," sylvie shrugged. "that's all they could find." sometimes she knew best than to argue with a gift that she was given. she'd make sure to wear the earrings and necklace they'd made her another time. surely this wouldn't be the last time a fancy event was held in elias. "you have to have something that works with this," she hummed, spinning around in her dress not for the first time this evening. she had promised that she'd go to the ball with lottie, instead of showing up with her roommates, knowing that it was already difficult enough to get them to get out in the first place. "i didn't have time to order anything."
“ didn’t know the mines were like apple orchards, ” she hums. “ though i s’pose if it’s only rubies in bloom… ” then the thought makes perfect sense to her. the gifted jewelry is lovely, a scarlet that she knows will glimmer under the light of any chandelier. now, lottie would approve it for any other choice of dress, but it is simply just not what she would have paired with a butterfly gown painted in soft grays and violets, dusted with little hints of blue. “ well, you shouldn’t have to worry your pretty little head! i’ve always got somethin’ that’ll work—we just need to find it. ” emeralds, maybe? her skirt sweeps gracefully behind her as she crosses to another cabinet tucked into the corner of the room. her attention catches on the bounce of sylvie’s skirt, layers of tulle lifting as she twirls. “ now, that is just the loveliest thing. you look like you stepped right out of a portrait. how’d you ever decide on butterflies? ”
The second Kate heard that voice, she didn't even have to turn around. The grin arrived first, followed by the relief. A total opposite from disgust and shutting down; the 'usual' when someone were to call her anything but Kate without prior approval. Just more of an emphasized nod to the two's dynamic. "Lottie." The young woman barely got the name out before she was being swept into a hug, laughing as she wrapped her arms around her long-time friend in return.
Oh, thank God. She pulled back just enough to look at her, as if it were some delusion and the blonde would disappear the second she pulled away. Luckily, this wasn't the case. "A person." Not a playboy billionaire. Not a out-of-touch royal. Not someone about to explain the economic benefits of yacht ownership. An actual person. One's of Kate's persons. "You have no idea how happy I am to see you right now."
Kate caught Lottie's hands where they rested on her shoulders and shook her head. "Uhm, excuse me, rude. You make it sound like I disappeared into the mountains and became a skin-walker or something." A moment passed where she thought about it, though it was mainly to continue her sightly jocular way of realizing she was quite envious of the folk creature. "Which, admittedly, is more appealing every year."
Her eyes drifted briefly around the ballroom before returning to Lottie; a habit. She needed to make sure she had eyes on everything at all times. One would say it was a false sense of control, but really it was just the whole 'being a superhero' thing. "And, just for the record, I did retire. Spiritually. Emotionally. Professionally." She gestured vaguely toward the crowd. "I'm only here because apparently every time I swear off fancy events, the universe hears me and says, 'Interesting. What if we made her attend another one?'" The sigh that followed was dramatic; a tiny crack in her armor to show slight vulnerability. Upon noticing, she ran back to the humor-covering part of her personality segment.
"I've been here for, like, an hour and a half and I've already had four conversations about philanthropy, one conversation about competitive ballroom dancing, and somebody asked if I was considering joining a yacht club." She leaned in slightly, following that last part. "I don't own a yacht, Lottie." If it wasn't evident that she had cut ties from whatever 'family' she had left before - it had to be screaming right then. "I barely own matching socks."
The grin returned immediately afterward. "But enough about my ongoing battle with high society." Her brown eyes swept over her friend's attire for the ball. "You look incredible, by the way. Which is annoying because now you've raised the average attractiveness of the entire room." Kate nudged her friend's shoulder affectionately. "How have you been? And don't give me the fancy gala answer. Give me the real answer."
“ retired? you can thank the universe all day long, but the stars ain’t draggin’ you inside! no, you put on your prettiest shoes— ” eyes dip to the other's footwear, and lottie pauses just long enough to catch herself. “ boots—and walked through those gates yourself. ” she cocks her head, a knowing smile tugging at her lips. “ so... was it somethin’, or someone? ‘cause, as fun as these things are, i just know you didn’t wake up missin’ it. ” gaze sweeping the ballroom, she gives the room a once-over before shrugging. “ the world needs its philanthropists; their yachts, less-so. but still. always needs ‘em more and more—especially in old elias. bit broken-down, that one, but all anybody can do is try. ” she checks over both shoulders before whispering, “ between you and me… some of ‘em are more crooked than a dog’s hind leg. buuuut, every now and then, they write a check for the right reasons. ”
and mental note: order kate some matching socks later. one of those right reasons.
“ honey, i’m always real. ” but how has she been? there’s the dr. facilier problem: how she has to spare a glance over her shoulder wherever she goes. she’ll never know when the magic man will come back for their deal. it’s a paranoia that follows her, even tonight, surrounded by all these people at this ball. but worries have their time and place, and she smooths them away as easily as she smooths the skirt of her gown. “ and i’m just peachy. keepin’ myself entertained and everybody else on their toes. you know i do love me a good ball. and those little mini quiches they’ve been passin’ around? ” she presses a hand to her chest. “ heavenly. ”
ariel steps into the ballroom and, as expected, it feels like a fresh breath of air. she inhales deeply, grin spreading across her face from cheek to cheek as the aroma of flowers fills her senses. this is where she is meant to be - no question, no doubt.
the princess twirls around with glowing curiosity at the sound of her name, smiling still at the sight of lottie running towards her. this was a woman who had made a point to introduce herself right away when they met and now ariel thought of her only fondly. "oh, hello dear! you look incredible." but before she could say much else, she's being led astray. ariel waves sheepishly to the gentleman she had just been speaking to before turning to her friend with a giggle. "and don't you dare speak on the wish, miss lottie. we want them to come true!"
“ i won’t! ” lottie lifts her free hand, an imitation of taking a sacred oath. then, scarcely a heartbeat later, she gasps & her eyes sparkle with a fresh curiosity. “ though i bet yours is so grand—adventure? wealth? romance? ” she leans in closer without realizing the contradiction, expression brightening with anticipation. the irony of her questions doesn’t register—not out of malice or any desire to pry, but simply because lottie is a social woman & conversation feels as natural as breathing. the evening air hits her face the moment they spill out of the ballroom, drawing a delighted laugh from her lips. she tugs ariel along toward the fountain, barely slowing until she takes a pause at its edge. “ i know what i’m gonna wish for already, ” she announces. “ and when it happens, it’s going to be absolutely wonderful. ”
krit is walking with a bounce in his step when the aforementioned step found itself in a pile of crushed pink. so the fabric didn't have much give after all. ever cool and quick, his smirk is swiped away with a shocked gasp.
"oh! i beg your pardon," krit lays a hand on his chest, as if to still his heart. "so caught, was i, by the design — i've seen this somewhere before. spring 2025? how on earth did you get your hands on this?" he asks with a smile.
“had it flown in straight from abroad—wasn’t that hard! now, if you can tell your designers apart, i’d say you’re a gentleman with mighty fine taste; though maybe not the best sense of where you’re puttin’ your feet…” a gloved hand lifted, her index finger pointing squarely at his polished dress shoes. she gives them one long, unimpressed look before her gaze wanders back up at an almost leisurely pace, one brow slightly arched; her recognition of designer labels mirroring his own. the corners of her mouth quirk up into a knowing smile, equal parts amused and equally unconvinced. “one more step like that, and i’m liable to start chargin’ a walkin’ fee. and somethin’ tells me you can afford it, sugar.”
"I'm sure she has a whole list of connections she keeps for occasions like this." The princess gestured to the room before them. The opulence of the ball was something only Minnie Mouse could pull off. Her grace could be felt throughout the entire room, like sparkling crown jewels reflecting in the sunlight. Aurora had almost forgotten that Elias had once been like this: dazzling, sparkling, and full of hope. "Oh, of course. I can only imagine how much energy they are using to perform for us. Truly a feat!"
A faint pink blush stained the princesses' cheeks. Her hands moved to run through her curled hair. "I don't quite dress up anymore." Her job and motherhood didn't leave room for much more. The beautiful ball gowns she had were collecting dust in her closet at this point. She felt like the girl who lived with her aunts in the woods rather than a princess most days. "And I do love seeing you there. Our conversations are always so wonderful." Lottie had become a regular that Aurora sought out on her shifts. She was always happy to engage the heiress in conversation. "You're too kind, Lottie. Thank you so much. I do feel quite beautiful tonight. Everyone here looks incredible." She turned to take in Lottie's appearance. "You look dazzling as ever. You're always the most well-dressed person in the room. A beautiful diamond."
lottie preens under the flattery, shamelessly & without even the slightest attempt to hide it. her shoulders lift slightly, pleased and glowing with the confidence of a woman who has never once questioned whether she deserves nice things. “ well, thanks, ” she says, almost sing-song. “ you should! ” delivered with all the certainty of someone stating the sky is blue. aurora’s always buzzing from one thing to the next, isn’t she? they’re the same age, but somehow the sleeping beauty has a whole life balanced on her shoulders—two little boys, waitressing shifts, responsibilities lottie can’t even pretend to understand. it’s not like lottie spends her days twiddling her thumbs either; there’s always something to do for charity, someone whose opinion she needs to hear. but MOTHERHOOD is an entirely different beast. which, to lottie, means the solution is perfectly obvious. in her experience, problems are meant to be solved. usually with the right person, the right favor... or the right check. “ oh! i’ll beg, beg, beg tia to give you a night off, ” she declares, clasping aurora’s hands between her own. “ and i’ll find the best, safest sitter in all of elias for those boys of yours. they’ll be so spoiled they won’t even notice you’re gone. ” her gaze narrows playfully as she studies aurora, trying to paint a picture in her mind: “ you don’t exactly strike me as the clubbin’ type, though. ”
if there was anything that dewey was, it was unaware of the setting he was in. other people were probably better at being aware of where their feet were. there were people that had been to balls before where they had to be aware of where their feet were. dewey wasn't used to being at places like this and he'd gotten himself into plenty of trouble being around this many people at once. dewey knew that there were people from all over elias here tonight. he had been scared that scrooge would show up, but then he saw his uncle was going to find some artifact... or something.
so he wasn't paying as much attention as he should. dewey immediately moved off the dress as he heard the voice. he looked down at the dress, sure that he hadn't torn it or something. "sorry!" he looked up. "it didn't tear and there's no dirt from my shoes or anything." he looked at lottie, embarrassed. "i'm not used to these events."
hands dart down to smooth her skirt, swishing the fabric around for careful inspection—once, twice, then a third time, even when he says nothing happened. you can never be too certain. the tiny crease between her brows disappears almost instantly, worry melting into relief, as she springs back to herself. “ whew! you sure had me worried for a second there. but it’s no worries! just mind where you’re steppin’ next time, alright? then we’ll be RIGHT AS RAIN. ” i’m not used to these events. “ the way you’re movin’, i would’ve known. ” she teases, hands settling at her sides now. “ but you clean up nice, so you’d get the benefit of the doubt. ” her gaze drifts to his shirt and tie, lingering on the cheerful scatter of florals against the blue; she supposes that’s his equivalent to her pink ribbons and bows, and lottie can’t help but respect someone so committed to their own sense of style. “ you can never go wrong with a little pattern. ”
⸻ 🌻 THE SOLSTICE BALL HAD ALREADY BECOME AN smearing-blur of golds &. silvers by the time an voice cut through the music.
While without her glasses ⸻ smokey-quartz couldn't distinguish exists ⸻ melted shapes ⸻ wounded lights ⸻ or where she was going in the first place ⸻ let alone stepping. “ I'm incredibly sorry ⸻ ” as she feels her stomach tighten lifting her foot immediately. “ ⸻ I can barely see where I'm going. &. I didn't mean to step on your dress. ” Unfortunately . . . stepping on there blurred unabashedly-pink dress was not the only piece of her that has found its way onto there dress.
As heat gathered beneath her cheeks ⸻ suddenly embarrassed ⸻ slightly ashamed ⸻ what's even worse than her sudden blindness was the suffocating presence of the Opaline Wisteria. Starting with its perfumed fragrance that sticks to one ⸻ as an creamy coconut-honey warmed by molten amber &. smooth vanilla. While the strange sweetness of an midnight-summer that never reached morning. But its the long-white blossoms glowing softly above them was the bigger problem.
As the mutation has been shedding loosen petals above her that dissolve into cold ⸻ white-glitter from the falling blossoms tracing icy-constellations on the polished-marble floor of the ballroom . . . trailing &. blooming behind her every uncertain step she took. While cold-white glitter was drifting over the stranger ⸻ &. getting . . . in there tulle to. An soft sigh escaped her ⸻ as an blind wallflower ⸻ the one that didn't want to bloom in time to matter right now.
Was heavily from head-to-floral-growth covered all over in that cold white-glitter. “ &. that is . . . also mine. ”
her gaze softens when she lays eyes on the person, who is just a girl—the poor thing is almost trembling in her boots. lottie’s expression melts into something gentler, sweeter, sympathetic. “ you’re tellin’ me you’ve been goin’ ’round blind as a bat? ” her brows lift, lips parting in genuine disbelief before her expression crumples into pity. “ oh, honey ... don’t you have contacts? ” it’s not the aroma of coconut honey, amber, and vanilla that particularly bothers her; in fact, quite the opposite. lottie wears her own vanilla perfume, and she’s spent plenty of time in rooms sweeter than a candy shop, filled with expensive fragrances handcrafted from the finest ingredients money can buy. she’s never been one to shy away from smelling like dessert. this is naturally made, but in a different way, one that even lottie can distinguish as magic. she moves the skirt of her dress back toward herself when willow lifts her foot, blossoms catching on fabric turning to glitter, which lottie is most definitely not opposed to. her attention drops to the petals scattered beneath them; with all the care one might give fine lace, she stoops to scoop a few into the palm of her gloved hand. “ well, would you look at that, ” she breathes, her voice full of wonder, turning one petal delicately between her fingers. “ shoot ... i should’ve called you when i needed floral arrangements. ” a bright smile finds its way onto her face as she looks back up at willow. “ i haven’t seen much like this before. ”

lottie’s always known there’s something elitist about these kinds of events; the same rotating bill of faces, the same industries. her father, though, at least back in new orleans, has always held a different place in their city. the LA BOUFF FORTUNE was built in hospitality, after all—a kind of wealth meant to be shared, and generosity that has cemented itself as a fixture of the community. but some of those more exclusionary circles are simply unavoidable, especially when invitations arrive for her and big daddy to cross state lines and attend galas in NEW YORK, where the northern attitude has always felt just a touch colder than the southern hospitality she was raised on. looking back, though, those galas were just fine, because lottie had— “ katie! ” she chirps, her face lighting up the moment she spots the other a few feet away. lottie is quick to close the distance, heels clicking across the floor in a brisk, practiced rhythm without so much as the hint of a stumble; a pace that would sent someone else sprawling, but second nature to lottie la bouff. arms sweep the other into a warm, tight embrace before drawing back just enough to keep both hands resting on her shoulders. “ i didn’t have the faintest idea you were comin’ tonight! last i heard, you’d all but retired from these typa functions, ” she gushes, giving kate’s shoulders an affectionate squeeze. “ but that was in new york, and now we’re here, so—how’ve you been? ”

lottie remembers a time when fairy tales were fiction. they were the standard by which she measured so many things, of course: how she wanted to live, the kind of love she hoped to find, the prince she always imagined. the third, at least, had always seemed tangible enough. but the years have brought more than a few magical mishaps & lottie can happily admit she’s been proven wrong about what belongs only in storybooks. the same applies to wishes, too; once upon a time, wishing on stars was for babies. now, lottie just has to go when she catches sight of a wishing well just beyond the ballroom windows, tucked away on the grounds outside. “ ariel! ” she chirps, slipping up beside her landbound friend and happily looping a gloved arm through hers before she has much chance to object. “ you’ve gotta come with me! there’s a well right outside, and i just know we’re s’posed to make a wish tonight. ”

with its old-time grandeur, the la bouff estate in new elias is nothing short of impressive—maybe paling in comparison to scrooge mcduck’s, objectively, though comparing fortunes has never been something lottie’s particularly cared to do. her doors are almost always open, whether to friends dropping by for the afternoon, or family, should her daddy ever decide to hop on a plane. today, though, the visit comes with a purpose. well—half a purpose. there’s style consulting to be done, but that doesn’t mean the afternoon can’t double as an excuse to dine, dish, and get ready together in the comfort of her dressing room. “ now, sylvie—i know your roommates may be miners, but that does not mean they know the first thing about color-coordination! RED RUBIES? with that dress?” she shoots the suggestion a thoroughly skeptical look before turning back to her jewelry dresser, sliding out velvet-lined trays one after another. lottie carefully inspects each piece in turn, plucking a ring from its slot to hold between two fingers in the light before nestling it neatly back into place. every few seconds, her gaze darts between the jewel in her hand and the shade of sylvie’s gown. “ mm-mm. absolutely not. ”

The dessert table had become Donnie's unofficial headquarters. Not because he had a particular sweet tooth. Okay... maybe a little because of the sweet tooth. A small plate balanced easily in one hand while the other reached for yet another chocolate-covered strawberry. He'd already decided that whoever catered the Summer Solstice Ball deserved some sort of award. Or at the very least, a raise. His attention drifted back toward the dance floor as another song began. A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as he watched a man struggle to keep up with his partner.
He popped the strawberry into his mouth, chewing thoughtfully as another couple glided past. Donnie wasn't judging. Well...maybe a little. Ballroom dancing had always fascinated him. There was something satisfying about two people moving so seamlessly together that they hardly seemed to think about it. He'd spent enough time learning to dance with Jasper to recognize good technique when he saw it, though he'd happily keep that little fact to himself. People tended to assume the engineer couldn't dance. He never bothered correcting them. It was funnier that way.
His eyes wandered toward the entrance for what had to be the fifth time in as many minutes before returning to the dancers. Another couple spun across the floor. Donnie nodded approvingly before reaching for a miniature éclair. He thought to himself before finally noticing someone nearby. Without missing a beat, he offered the dessert tray in their direction. "Help me settle an argument with myself." His smile widened. "Who's the best dancer in the room so far? Because I'm keeping score, and I think I've found the current frontrunners."
“ excludin’ yours truly— ” she begins with an easy grin, light enough to keep it from sounding boastful; though, for the record, lottie means every word. a girl doesn’t spend years taking ballroom lessons just to hide it at a ball! she’s practiced the art since she was little enough to stand on her daddy’s shoes. but this isn’t about her. it’s about judging everyone else’s dancing, a pastime she’s happily devoted a good portion of the evening to. she hums thoughtfully, using the edge of her tiny fork to separate another bite of tiramisu on the dessert plate balanced in her hand.
“ the royals usually have that title in the bag, ’specially the ones born into it. ” her good friend naveen, naturally, falls under that umbrella, though she hasn’t caught him on the dance floor tonight. and around here, there are charmonts everywhere—kings, queens, their consorts, cousins, distant relations ... goodness, may as well bring out the whole chessboard while they’re at it. “ i would say queen ella, but didn’t she have that little mishap where her partner spun her right into somebody? ” she winces sympathetically before her hand hovers over her chest. “ bless her heart; those things just happen … actually, katie’s been doin’ awfully well tonight! ” she says with unmistakable pride, brightening at the mention. “ she’s always been a beautiful dancer—even when we were younger. ” lottie points a gloved finger toward a figure across the ballroom. “ there! dressed in plum. ” her head turns upwards to face donnie, an eager and curious smile across her face. “ but what about you? who were you thinkin’? ”

a gown this heavy is not for the weak. but lottie, the dedicated woman she is, has spent years training for ballgowns twice this size. and when you dedicate yourself to something the way lottie has committed herself to always looking her best—the way she does in this dress & in all of her dresses—you learn to stride with ease and glide with a practiced grace, even weighed down by pounds of tulle. that ability, of course, is interrupted when she feels a sharp tug backward as she tries to step forward, her head snapping around toward the source. “ ex-cuse me! ” she huffs, gathering handfuls of fabric at the hem of her gown, ready to lift it free. “ you’re on my dress. ”

The feeling of a ball was bittersweet for Aurora. The last time she was here, she was dancing in the arms of her beloved Philip. Now she remained on the dance floor, floating in space with no tether. She had gotten used to the feeling. The emptiness, the sadness. Moments like this opened old wounds, but tonight she would persevere as she always did. "I wonder where Minnie found all these acrobats. They're spectacular."
“ wouldn’t put it past miss mouse to keep connections with a bunch of high-flyin’ showfolk, ” she says, sidling up beside aurora to watch the performers. another acrobat lands a flawless flip, and lottie lets out an impressed hum. “ just watchin’ ’em’s enough to wear a girl out. ” her eyes wander from the crown of aurora’s hair all the way to the hem of her gown before lighting up. “ well, would you look at you, rory! i don’t think i’ve ever seen you all dolled up like this, ” she beams. “ then again, i usually only ever see you over at tia[na]’s palace. ” and those times consist mainly of waitress uniforms. she reaches out to smooth an imaginary wrinkle from aurora’s sleeve before pulling her hand back with a satisfied nod. “ you look absolutely precious. no—DOWNRIGHT GORGEOUS. and i’m gonna go out on a limb and say you’re feelin’ just as pretty as you look tonight? a night like this deserves a girl who knows she looks beautiful. ”
the summer solstice ball, 2026 : when lottie received the invitation, she thought less of how ominous it was, with no return address, and only considered it mysterious; its lack of identification made it seem all the more elegant. a socialite is invited to many things, after all, and every invitation should be treated with no less importance than another—especially in appearances. so she sifted through her collection of ballgowns and knew, in her heart, exactly which one was summer-solstice ready.
if you wanted proof that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, you’d look to charlotte’s earrings—a chunky pair of pink and white diamond dangles, each one real and, not to mention, ethically sourced! she’s accessorizing with satin gloves, and as for her hair, she’s opted to pin her blonde locks into a neat bun. make-up wise, she’s chosen glittery purple eyeshadow paired with a nude lip. and finally, her gown follows the unofficial staple she's set for herself: glamorous and UNABASHEDLY PINK, this time in an almost-mermaid silhouette, a pale pink confection patterned with white bows and finished with one larger bow at the front to tie it all together.
