heâs used to not showing his true emotions, always hiding behind the image of the player frat boy that people often project onto him. itâs easier to fit into someone elseâs expectations than be himself so he can come off like a douche sometimes. however, jason can tell thereâs been a shift in the air that demands his attention. he could chalk it up to alcohol but heâs also never seen shelby like this before. it concerns him; he doesnât hide it. â hey. â his hand reaches out for her but stops right before he places it on her back. is this overstepping ? does he have the right to comfort her ? despite his brain questioning his actions, his body moves on its own ( as if itâs following his heart rather than his brain ). instead of settling on her back, he reaches his arm around her in a protective one-armed hug. now they really look like an album cover, and in another circumstance heâd probably laugh about it. â i have my car. do you want a ride home ? â he looks at her with sincerity; he can feel the anxiety crackling in the air and there was no way he was going to leave her alone. alcohol and negative feelings do not mix well â jason is very familiar with that concept. â i didnât drink. i can drive. â
shelby pursued jason because she thought it was going to be easy. she wanted someone who knew when to keep quiet, someone she knew that she could vibe well with â jason had piqued her interest almost immediately, & her intuition had been right. she enjoyed playing games & fooling around with him. she enjoyed exchanging pointed looks with him at parties, meeting in closets, & feeling like what they had going on was some kind of big, juicy secret, even though it... really wasnât. everyone in shelbyâs sorority knew about her & jason, & the unspoken rule of âdibsâ was supposed to keep them safe. however, shelby didnât feel safe anymore; she felt like she had overshared, like sheâd made their no strings attached arrangement into something a lot more complicated than it was supposed to. she felt like she had seriously fucked up, & she isnât put at ease when jason puts his arm around her, either. since when did he ever initiate touch like this ? â itâs okay. jennâs coming. â under any other circumstances, shelby wouldâve loved to spend some real alone time with jason... but right now ? the idea of that terrifies her. how much of this is genuine, & how much is him just compensating for all of the information that she just dumped on him ? â thank you, though. â she sighs, laying her head down to rest on jasonâs shoulder, her eyes shutting. she doesnât know if sheâd be able to find the courage to face jason again after tonight, so for right now, at least, sheâll indulge.
