Reginald-10

My name is Reginald. I'm Jerry's wooden bookshelf. Or rather, I used to be Jerry's wooden bookshelf. Though I am only ten years old, I've gathered an amount of dust that one would expect of an old, grumpy grandfather clock. Books continually weigh me down; my burden never eased by Jerry's graceful hand reaching up to grab a book, eager to read the adventures that lay in store for him. Alas, he has probably long forgotten me, having left me in this dark attic nearly seven years ago...

Monday-Hundreds of Years Old

Everyone’s looking at me. I glance down at my yellow sweatshirt, the most comfortable thing in my closet, and gently tug at the hem. My Uggs plod down the street and I reach my hand up to my hair to check for shark fins in my ponytail, but it’s smooth. I don’t know what they’re looking at, what’s wrong. I look over and see a middle-aged woman in a suit, carrying a briefcase, there are bags under her eyes and as I get closer her glance transforms into a glare, “Ugh, Monday”. I quickly look away, and shuffle on. My eyes meet a young boy’s, his clothes are disheveled and his hair is sticking out in every direction, a black backpack is slung over one shoulder. “Get lost Monday” he growls.

As I walk by he spits at my feet, and I freeze. My mouth dropped open, as I look down at the bubbling mound sitting inches from my feet, my head whips up and I see he is looking at me with disgust. I reel back and start running, plowing past more and more angry people, contending their brazen hatred towards me. Tears fill my eyes, but I keep running. Slowly the angry looks fade to tired ones. And as I slow I hear them whisper that they wish I didn’t exist. I know after all this time I should be used to it—but I’m not.

Echo Goldfrost-19

Echo is a compulsive thief. She steals small trinkets from antique stores and hides them in her attic. She orders these trinkets by size and shape because she is very particular about how she wants things. However, when it comes to speaking up about what she wants to others she can’t make a sound. Echo is often overshadowed by peeple around her. She doesn’t mind to be looked over, because she hates the spotlight. Echo is very considerate (apart from the whole stealing thing). She loves bugs, and she can probably name all of the species. She is very caring towards bugs, and could literally never hurt a fly even if she tried. Others would call Echo quirky and weird, but Echo doesn’t give a hoot.

Benedict Potato-Age Unknown

My name is Benedict and spoiler alert, I’m a potato. I’m a misanthropic spud full of self-hate, bad puns, and more sass than even the sauciest of salsas. You see, some people say that I have it easy, that I could always have it worse. I guess I could be a mudstain on Jennifer Lawrence’s red-carpet dress and be constantly ridiculed. I could be a toilet, constantly used and just left to be alone. But no, I’m a boring, raw potato. A snarky one at that. Everyone wants to change me. Even I want to change me. No one wants to eat a gold old potato. No, you have to mash me or boil me or fry me. I don’t even do anything all day. I just sit there and wait for people to inspect me and all twenty-two spots of mine. Living in a grocery store only has the perks of being able to watch humans and antagonize them for even the simplest of things (I bet you’ve never met a more cynical potato and if so… I worry about the spuds you’re associating yourself with.) Every day, from store open to store close, all I do is watch people and pick every little detail about them apart. Sometimes, I get rattled around as a human clumsily tries to grab me to cook but there’s always a better potato than me. Always. The life of a potato is a boring life.

Sneaker-Age Unknown

Yesterday was horrible. She stepped in a puddle, and she didn’t tie my laces, so they got all wet. Do you know how it feels to be a shoe with wet laces? It’s disgusting. Well, enough about yesterday! Let me introduce myself. I know this may seem weird but I’m a sneaker. I’m a blue, Nike, old, dirty sneaker named Nick. The girl who wears me is a total jerk by the way; she only uses me for gym class! Can you imagine being drowned in a constant pool of teenage sweat every single class? Well that’s my job, and it’s been my job for two years, ever since she picked me and my pair up from that warm, cozy shoe shelf at the store where all my friends were. That monster took me away from my home!

Bitter? Of course not! Like I said that’s my job, and I knew that sooner or later I’d have to leave the store. Now that I think about it I guess there are some pros to being a sneaker used only for gym class. I don’t get used at all during the weekend or any school holidays, I made a ton of new friends in the other gym lockers, and I’m much more fit than those lazy house slippers (who never even take a step outside). And it’s not like I’m the only one who feels like this, my pair, Nikki, goes through the exact same thing I go through every day. She’s nice, and keeps me company when I’m bored. And every day when the girl takes us out of the locker for class, we both await an adventure that’s different every single day. Sometimes it’s awfully dreadful, but sometimes it’s just plain old dreadful. Anyway, that’s the life of a sneaker. Well, that’s the life of this sneaker.

Kirkland-3.14

Kirkland is an adventurous little Antelope that enjoys eating grass and searching for wild berries to eat.  He does not like it when humans leave their trash in the woods and mostly does not like wild fires because they always end up destroying his home and eliminating his family members.  For instance, one day Kirkland had caught sight of a biker throw his plastic water bottle off into a bush while biking.  Kirkland became very angry and told himself, “Why are humans too lazy to just throw their trash into designated trash cans! I cannot stand seeing humans being foolish!”  From that point on Kirkland refused to travel to the highway where the dispersal of trash by humans was the greatest.

Choo Twins-1 year

Being fancy brand shoes, the Choo twins are quite self-absorbed, and selfish. They are quite confidant in themselves and are very cocky. They LOVE being worn, praised and admired. So understandably, they hate being neglected and criticized. But NOTHING is worse for the Choo twins than being broken and having to undergo corrective surgery.  “We look FABOLOUS!” It’s the 20th time I’ve looked in the mirror but I can’t help it. We look so good. I turn around to look at the dress that’s coming with us. No, there’s no competition. All eyes will be on us. “Who needs corrective surgery when you look this good.”

Pin-Age Unknown

My name is Pin. Bowling Pin. The one thing I hate the most about being a Pin is that we are always pushed around by the Bowling Balls. My brother is a Ball and he is ALWAYS knocking me down, as if I don't have feelings or get hurt. When he comes after me, he rolls as fast as a cloud in a hurricane; he hits me with the force of a wrecking ball.  Sometimes, I think that the other Pins, who are also oppressed by their brothers, can stand a chance against them if we stick together. But I know that hope is futile. Unfortunately, one of them can easily overpower us.

Oliver-6

Oliver loves seeing the world. That's why he loved being a pair of glasses. He sat on the shelves waiting for the right pair of eyes for months. Finally, a mother from northern Virginia picked Oliver from all of the other glasses. He got to meet the family and was headed to the beach. Right as he was looking at the ocean, he plunged into the ocean, knocked off of his owner's face. Oliver hasn't been seen since.  Oliver doesn't like acne, unibrows, or makeup. He says they inhibit his view, which really bothers him.

Rock-Age Unknown

Rock is a rock. Rock is not a smooth rock; no, rock is a grey rock with a lot of edges. Somehow rock became sentient, rock is not really sure how, to be honest. All rock knows is that rock now realizes how nice being a rock is. Rock simply lays there; rock does not have to do anything. But then someone always comes along and has to try to throw rock or kick rock and rock is like,  “Really guys? Rock is just trying to chill here.” Rocks only other complaint is that rock has no legs. As much as rock enjoys laying in one spot all day, rock definitely wishes that rock could go for a walk once in a while. Or at least move away from the screaming kids. Or the homeless guy who sometimes sleeps on the bench near rock. Or the dog who thinks that rock is his personal property. Other than that rock doesn’t have a lot of complaints and is pretty ok with laying in one spot all day.

Genesis is a 16 year old girl. Her real name is Susie, but she wanted something more edgy. She wears all black and considers herself an expert on body piercings and tattoos. She is very moody and full of angst, always wanting to write in her poetry book that she hides from the rest of her family. She is known for her hair that she always dyes a different color.

Name: Wendell

Age: 27 (Male)

“Huh… that really didn’t hurt as bad as I thought it was gonna.”  “Leg’s broken though… definitely broken.” Wendell’s mind raced after falling off of his spooked horse in the middle of the Mojave.  The horse was long gone, his leg hurt like none other, and he would have sworn up and down to you that he heard a rattler not far off.  “Hopefully she’s runnin back to the hutch, though I can’t quite fathom why she spooked.”  Not knowing what else to do, he lay back and admired the moon, simultaneously pretending the pang of hunger didn’t just hit him like a brick in the face.  It hadn’t exactly been the smoothest couple of months Wendell had ever had.  In fact, you might even say they were the absolute worst 6 weeks of his life.

James walks down the hallway, humming to himself, all alone. He passes his classmates who point at him and laugh. In return he waves at them with a smile and continues walking. He walks to his classroom and sits down. His classmate in front of him turns around. "Nice haircut James," he says with a snicker. "Thanks," James replies with a smile. He doesn't pick up on the fact that his classmate was actually mocking him. As a matter of fact, James doesn't pick up on much. He sort of lives in his own little world, experiencing everything, yet comprehending very little. He has plenty of "friends", everyone is always so nice to him. He's never felt anything other than happiness and complacency. James is blissfully ignorant.

I am uncertainty. I am the feeling you get when you're anxious and also the nervous jitters. I am the butterflies in your tummy and the one that pounds on the inside of your head until the beads of sweat crawl down your face. I am only a few seconds old. Or a few minutes. Or a day or a month. Or even a year. I am only as old as you allow me to be and I am only allowed where you let me. I sit in the core of your brain, numb, waiting for a chance to escape and wreak havoc. I am the angel and devil on your shoulders. I am the pros and cons on your notepad. I am the "oh forget it. no regrets." I am your eyes darting around the room, your leg tapping the ground uncontrollably. I am the anxiousness that makes you chew your nails or spin your pen. I am the crease between both brows in concentration. But I am also the wrinkles at the corners of your mouth in the moment of surprises. I am the groans of frustration and indecision but I am also the screams of adrenaline. I am uncertainty and I am not in control- you are.
