Econ Assessment Part 4:
The minimum wage and whether we should raise it has become one of the pivotal points for elections this year. It is believed that Trump does not hold the belief that wages are too low, and that they should be increased, rather he believes that the states should hold the power to control their wages. Meanwhile the popular opinion is that the minimum wage should be raised mainly for the purpose of making life more sustainable. They offered complaints about how some people have to work multiple jobs and long hours just to make it every month. It also tries to manipulate the reader by describing why they should not trust any politician running for office that has stated that they will support a raise in minimum wage because most likely they do not support a substantial difference in the increase of minimum wage.
A raise in minimum wage will definitely affect the unemployment rate, either in a positive or negative manner. By increasing it, job openings may begin to decrease due to the raised amount that companies now have to pay a single worker; therefore, resulting in a higher unemployment rate. On the flip side, increasing the minimum wage may get people that are unemployed to start working once again, believing that the work force is stable once again. Also, the opportunity cost to raise the minimum wage would be high, but helpful in the long run, and would definitely advance our economy. There may be other alternatives to raising the minimum wage, but by selecting to raise the wage, it would have a direct influence to the work force. Lastly, the economic inequality between the rich and the poor may begin to lessen its gap. Owners of companies will now have to pay their workers more, resulting in a higher income for them and a lesser income for the owner, decreasing the difference in economic well-being between them.
