reid tūwhare is a twenty-seven year old half-god from hamilton, new zealand and is the son of hinenuitepō, the maori goddess of night and the underworld. he's been at camp since he was eighteen years old and is a little apprehensive about being in the ark. reid is a optimistic, solicitous, and observant kind of fellow. only time will tell what will happen to one of our intrepid heroes !

reid hakopa tūwhare was born of desperation and pity. a soul lost too soon ; a mournful prayer to a god of old and mercy returned a half god made of soul and spirit to the mortal parents of a dead son. from his conception, reid's validity had been in question outside of the community of those in hamilton who still honored the old gods with prayer and worship. reid himself grew up fairly odd, spoken to candidly of his existence and that he was born of a prayer granted by a benevolent god. he looked just like his father too, the young man recently an adult taken too soon. reid had always felt so deeply and had consideration for all life forms in their journey. the kid was genuinely optimistic and even while facing danger , he had no fear. the well of his emotions ran deep as the pacific did to the depths of tangaroa and the boy could spend a lot of his time in consideration and contemplation. it wasn't until he had been recruited to the maori camp that his perspective shifted massively. on his eighteenth birthday, a spectre appeared in a dream which felt more like looking into an aging mirror. here, is where he had first met his father as an envoy to hinenuitepō and an explanation that he was divine as a child of them both. the threat of the extinction of the maori pantheon along with others of the pacific was something that weighed on reid heavily and that's when he decided to answer the call of his parents — with the stipulation that he would return home as long as his grandparents were still alive to celebrate his birthday with them. at twenty-three and twenty-five, they too passed over to the realm of hinenuitepō. the last nine years had been tough with only a handful of half gods being called to defend their parents and with the evils prevailing even more. they would occsaionally rely on other pantheons for support, but they only ever fought if they felt like it was something they could actually change. now with the last few months and this merge to the ark ; reid is missing the pacific more and more and forced to dealing with egos he never quite had to before. he can only hope that with more divinity concentrated, perhaps it will give enough momentum and power for them to collectively make a difference.

reid wasn't the type to usually go out of his way too much but he was always someone who tried to think on the bright side of things, despite being so tied to death. it's why he decided to make breakfast and get to know some of the people who had joined while he was gone.

Dio was right, the beach was a popular place. Not only that, but the morning waves could prove to be a popular resource for more demigods at the Ark than Diego had originally thought. Not that he minded in the slightest. The more the merrier as far as he was concerned. If anything, it brought him back home at the beach, with his surf crew.

Diego had also been at the beach at dawn, as he usually was, doing his yoga, greeting his father as the sun rose, and centering himself. That sense of routine, of normality helped him cope with all of the changes in camp, in his life. It was his time to revel in the peace of the waves, while rising with the sun. He'd also spent some time surfing as well, alongside Reid, though from a distance. The morning beach crew seemed to like to keep their space at first, which he didn't mind. "It's kind of a ritual at this point. Waking up with dad," he nodded over to the sun, still resting on the horizon. "You looked good out there. Surprised you're calling it so early."

" Good point, I forgot you were a sun kid at first, but the immaculate tan gives you away. " He teased, the other looked so glistened in the sun as though he was meant to be adorned by its rays all day long whereas Reid felt the urge to protect his eyes from the intense sun light. There was too much to do still; Reid had wanted to get back into the library and seek out spirits who may be able to share more about the challenges they still faced.

" If I could surf for hours i'd just do that, it helps me feel like i'm back at home. " His mind corrected the we of his thoughts, constantly combining himself with Aleki in the us of it all when he had to remind himself that he was a single entity despite how deep their connection did go. " How's the island been going for you? It was quite the transition when I first got here, still is kind of tough being with so many different demigods from different parts of the world. "

the norse half god was tired, but what was he supposed to do? he couldn't leave these freshly minted warriors to themselves. they'd end up blinded or dead... like some already were. " it may not always seem like it, but the spirits will get over it in their own time. " if they didn't they were dead anyway. the worse that they were going to do was haunt reid and some of the others. " i'll survive. that's the best that i have for you right now. how are you? " a part of levin didn't know if he'd make it out of this alive, but he sure hoped so.

" that's a very valid take, i guess spirits are the same as people; all with their own takes and biases. " he hadn't ever truly internalized that before this moment, unlearning the need to please spirits because they were all so in tune the veil that separated both words. " i'm fine. this place really takes a toll and i'm still learning how to give myself to save the world while trying to manage, well, everything else. " that was as honest of an answer that he had. " does it ever get any easier? " reid asked, already fearing what he knew the answer to be.

aleki finally returned to consciousness as he became aware of that familiar weight beside him ; a soft smile across his features as he opened his eyes, staring at the other man nestled against him. perhaps their feelings might never return to the way they were before ────── but nothing really compared to the familiarity that reid offered. and of course, aleki was angry that reid abandoned him when he needed him most. but he'd rather bask in this solace even just for a little bit before they had to hash things out. " welcome back ... " a tender kiss pressed on top of reid's head, gently tightening his embrace around him. " it's my day off. " now, that was something new. aleki usually couldn't stand just lying in bed all day. he didn't know what to do with his hands if he wasn't fighting or tinkering or making himself or someone else feel good. but there were some days now where it felt like just getting out of bed was the hardest thing. he shrugged it off as his body begging for respite, to recuperate ; but he knew deep inside that it felt heavier than just being tired. " i was thinking of hanging out with tristan later. maybe check on levin. but you're here now so — i guess it can just be a lazy day with the two of us. maybe, forest, too, if he decides to come over. "

was comfort a good enough reason to keep returning into the arms of his best friend? reid hadn't the energy nor the stamina to keep aleki at arm's length after being gone for so long, especially after the surge of yearning he felt after his death. he hadn't wanted to untangle the web of what that meant and so he simply didn't for the sake of ease. aleki's warm body felt like a furnace against reid's chilling touch but often it felt more like he a moth waiting to be destroyed by the son of pele's flame. " thank you, aleki. " his voice soft, perhaps even the softest that aleki had heard in quite some time.

reid had a quip about aleki not taking time off and being a robot but he rather not ruin this moment of reunion, he had missed aleki after being gone for weeks. " don't squeeze too hard. " okay, maybe he couldn't help himself as he attempted to ease aleki's colossal strength feeling like a vice-like grip constricting him in place.

" do you want to hang out with just me? " reid asks directly, turning his head to meet his exes' gaze. " i'm happy to if you want, you can catch me up with all your shenanigans. " a smile; look of desire and a knowingness of hurt, reid attempted to slip out of aleki's arms and sit himself up curious on what he might've missed.

the water had reid feeling both relaxed and connected back into the ark in a way that he hadn't in a long while. there had been such a strong disconnect recently since returning and being in the ocean made him feel as though he was getting re-assimilated back into the swing of things.

he woke up at dawn, taking his time while heading to the beach and spent a few hours surfing alone and appreciating the silence. it wasn't until he was making his way back to his cabin that he noticed another. “ enjoying the beach too? ” he asked, surely he had spent time with the other but not enough for reid to feel as if they knew each other well. @sunkissed-diego

it'd been a while since he'd seen reid, and he'd be lying if he hadn't missed his presence a bit. they shared trauma, and he'd been one of the few allowed to peer into the inner machinations of the shinto pantheon. he trusted him, that much was certain.

"you got it, boss." he smiles gently, slipping onto his stomach and tugging down his shorts just a little bit, giving reid full access the the span of his back. "have you done this before or should i be worried?"

" reid shook his head at the sudden concern his friend was having when he was being so kind in offering this massage to help him put his mind at ease. living at the ark had been so stressful for them all and the pressure to succeed was immense; it's why they needed to find pleasure or content in the little moments where they could simply be themselves instead of these entities of power or strength to save the world.

" i've done this before. my mom was pretty attuned to moving energy and helping and she taught me a little bit. " bringing his hands together, reid rubbed them quickly to generate some heat before he pressed it against the small of forest's back.

aleki rarely had days when he decided he wouldn't train or do anything too extensive. as much as he wanted to be stronger, as much as he wanted push himself to his limits, he knew that he needed to give his body some time to recuperate, too. a broken body wouldn't serve him well. especially when his spirit already felt fragmented and carelessly sewn back together. he would usually be up by now, should already be on morning jog ────── but there he still was, sleeping soundly. dreaming. " no. no. no. you can't take the boat, tangaroa is angry and he will punish you with the tides . . . " aleki murmured, talking in his sleep. but reid's voice seemed to have brought half his consciousness back to reality, but eyes remained close as he tossed and turned ; trying to remain in this dream for a few more minutes. " reid is home . . . " he told whoever he was talking to in his dream. " no, no, it doesn't have teeth. he didn't get that from lady hine-nui-te-pō, thankfully. " a small laugh. but despite continuing to dream, half of him seemed aware of reid's presence, a hand outstretched towards the other pasifika demigod — beckoning him to come to bed with him.

things would always be complicated when it came to aleki lafaele and they had left with reid bringing the other from the pits of rarohenga back to the mortal realm only to decidingly leave him for his own well-being. his first thought was to pull aleki from this dream world that he seemed stuck in, but he wanted to ease himself back the best he could. " aleki... " reid sighed, an eye roll at the reference to teeth and the onrunning jokes that the son of pele often had in jest.

and that was the issue — reid felt like through aleki's highest that he was so important and whenever convenient, he'd throw reid under the bus for the sake of humor, success, truly no rhyme or reason but because he thought it was funny. but instead of fighting, he'd allow this one moment of reprieve and slid himself into aleki's arms and settled in the best that he could. " you're not usually one to still be in bed. "

the sun was bright and high in the sky, embracing the beach in its warm rays. pulling off his shirt, he feels a little bit self-aware that his midsection was less defined than when he first arrived. maybe he was just a little happier now, or maybe he needed to hit the gym a bit more.

"i appreciate you doing this for me." the son of amateratsu grins as he glances over his shoulder at reid, carding a hand through his styled locks. "just tell me how you want me."

coming back was tough for the sheer fact that reid had no clue how the others would embrace him. so when forest had been complaining about tightness in his shoulders, reid was happy to use what he knew to try and loosen up the man. with actual combat and fighting happening, they would really do for an actual masseuse to help them.

truth be told, he was appreciative of his companions. without them, he would've been too weak or slow to have this conversation. something about levin had changed since the last time that reid saw him. although everything that did could have just been attributed to tiredness. " the spirits speak your name when you approach now. " some praised reid, others judged him. " good to have you back. "

reid had a lot of respect for levin, the man through it all continued to offer compassion and willingness to help those chosen continue to grow. the other seemed fatigued, an energy of exhaustion circling the roman demigod. " i hope to honor and do well by the spirits, i know many may have not agreed with my sudden departure, but i'm back now. how have you been, friend? " making that assumption, moving in closer as he manifested some spiritual energy from his hands for levin to sense and to hold, if he would choose to do that.

There was a tinge of embarrassment in returning to camp. He felt ashamed that he needed a reprieve from the chaos of camp, but it may had been absolutely dire if he hadn't understood that within him. The first person he went to go see was Aleki, he needed to see him and understand where they were at. Now, Levin would be the next person and he greeted him solemnly with a mixture of macabre trinkets that he had picked up along his travels. " Levin... " Reid takes in the gaze. there was a mixture of embarrassment and necessity for reid's sabbatical from the ark, days after reviving aleki. his death lingered on him like a haunting melody that he simply could not escape. the son of hinenuitepō felt no other way to escape than to take his time to return back to himself ; refreshed and recharged in the only way he knew how to.

a brilliant ray of sun, a light in the dark, a bulwark from the madness chipped away from all that they had to face.

but now, reid returned resolved more than ever with his typical kindness radiating and a bag of tropical fruits and some new zealand pastries from one of their favorite bakeries from back home. “ you home, aleki? ” the man barged in without shame during the early morning light, expecting the other to be tossing in his bed. reid felt the exhaustion of the last twelve hours seep deep into the marrow of his bones. with armando's help, they had found their way to rarohenga and returned with aleki and a heavy gaze of his mother and father that only weighed heavy on reid's soul.

but, he stayed resting near aleki while he was in the infirmary offering a smile at the man as he weaved inbetween consciousness asking for the time or for an answer he had asked a question to four times before.

he was certain this was a one-time thing but he had been able to save aleki's life and he wouldn't let the man out of his sight. iwa, the morepork finding a perch in the corner of the infirmary where she could gaze outside and doing so every so often while reid was pre-occupied on ensuring aleki was comfortable. this wasn't how aleki expected to see reid ; though it was nobody's fault but his own to expect anything when it came to the demigod of night and death at this point. he thought the other man would be more somber, but he couldn't say that he didn't like this much better. his gaze wandered down the length of reid's body, a slight smile tugging at one corner of his lips when he saw the bulge in reid's shorts. a certain desire spiked up in spine, seeing reid hot and bothered was not exactly a brand new sight and it was difficult for his mind not to reminisce about all the ways this could go ────── but aleki tried not to think too much with his dick. he was just glad that his former lover could still find ways to distract himself from the burdens of war and bloodshed. " you literally asked me to come here. don't get mad at me for being here now, " aleki laughed as he blithely pushed past reid, making himself comfortable on the couch. his worry was often easily discernible, taking the form a deep frown that started between his eyebrows and extended down to his lips. but aleki decidedly forced a reassuring smile on his lips, just so they could pretend that there were starting at an insouciant level and not a sour mood ────── yet so obviously feigned that he probably just looked like a lost fawn. still, aleki tried to speak with as much indifference ; an incredibly difficult task for someone so full of heart. " i'm here to help with whatever you need. i know that we're all going to have blood on our hands, but i can't even begin to imagine how you must be feeling right now. "

Reid was quick to clothe himself from the other's voyueristic gaze. After a huffed breath in defiance, Aleki pushed himself into his room and the other Polynesian half-god let out a hitched breath while his arousal quickly diminished back into the somber mood that he was in before. " i'm not mad, i just thought you would take longer. my fault, really, thinking i could finish quickly. " reid had always been cerebral and his own mind got in the way too much from being present and in the moment of pleasure and intimacy.

" armando is mad at me, levin and i killed her and there's a gecko god half godnapping. " the man let out a drawn out sigh, as he maneuvered himself to the couch and laid himself into aleki's embrace as he took in a deep breath to calm himself down.

" all i hear is luni's voice calling me a weak piece of shit and this dreadful feeling of you thinking i'm not strong enough to do what needs to be done with a huge sadness in the pit of my stomach that i've taken a life and it doesn't feel great. " a single tear ran down reid's face as the words seemed to finally sink in as a visible shift clicked on the man's face as though he was now being paralyzed by his decisions.

Making his way to the shore, a little less focused on his nudity and more on the offer to surf. "The beach is like a second home to me. I love being in the water." Be it still and calm like the lake or rapid like the waves of a beach. Dio was surprised his parent wasn't some fish or sea god. But given how he did love growing things for food or the occasional medicinal purpose made some bit of sense.

He didn't bother to dry off (since he didn't have a towel to begin with) and just pulled on his pants while tossing his shirt over his shoulder and carrying his shoes. "Kind of wish someone told me that when I was recruited. Left my board home."

Once semi clothed he joined the other inviting himself along for the trip to the beach. Would give him a chance to see these waves and if the guy could surf or was just some kid on a board. "Lead the way."

" That makes the two of us, dude. I'm used to being close to the waves and the ocean, so i'm thankful we have this here too. " Reid would be a liar if he didn't take a moment to absorb the other's form and the hard edges of his body before he looked away to let the man put on some clothes and dress himself for public decency.

" Yeah, i've been surfing since I was a kid. It's kind of a huge thing in New Zealand. I'm going to teach everyone to surf here, it's a great workout and good stress reliever too. "

Reid hadn't much else he wanted to ask about in the five minute walk towards the beach and he kept quiet while carrying his board to the half-mile stretch of crescent beach that had the waves swelling in and he noticed the other. " You wanna take the first round? " He offered, board extended out slightly for the other to go first. Reid could see his eagerness and wanted him to experience the joy he did while in the water.

He loved the ocean. Eryx always had a connection to the sea and all its creatures. He had major respect for crocs, gators, and caimans too, but his favorite had to be the sharks. There was this shark, the bull shark, that swam upriver as if the lack of saltiness didn't affect it! They were gorgeous and impressive, powerful! Later in life, he learned why he loved the ocean so much: his real father was the god Varuna.

He had loving parents and he never stopped calling his dad, dad, he just had a new dad! Not confusing. At all. Still, he did his best to make do. He survived the normal world and now lives in The Ark. He still had to make deep connections with others, so he found himself training and writing on his blog, or just feeling nostalgic. Sometimes he wondered what would it be like if he just was normal and not a half-god. It was still weird to think about.

As he swam, he noticed someone approaching and watching the waves. There weren't that many. "Reid, right? I can make some waves for you if you'd like?" He offered. Maybe he could make a friend today!

Reid had made a grand effort to surf daily. It was the only way he felt connected to his home and the water felt like a homecoming despite it being the Altantic. His gaze watched the shoreline, a bit bummed that the waves seemed choppy and lackluster. Set after set, he thought he timed high tide appropriately but it seemed like he'd have to turn around until a friendly voice cut through the ebb and flow of the beach and he turned and spotted Eryx.

" Oh, hey Eryx. Yeah, do you surf? Honestly, surfing's way more fun with more than one person. Happy to teach you if you haven't done it before. "

He hadn't known the other that well but every quest they've been on he'd been a pretty strong ally with an incredible weapon. This was the perfect opportunity for him to get to his know his comrades better, what better way than in a place they both felt comfortable.

its a strange, comforting thing to be held in a moment like this. physical affection, especially during times of distress, weren't exactly commonplace in forests' life. he'd learned to take it amicably, to let the tears fall in private. now, here he was, openly seeking the comfort reid brought him. it felt strangely peaceful, despite the strong emotions surging through him.

"we could've lost you too." he murmurs, face buried into reid's shoulder. "i dunno what i would've done, honestly. probably banishment or something." he grumbles half-heartedly, a weak attempt at lightening an otherwise dark moment.

" forest, you're so dramatic. " reid couldn't help but laugh at the other while giving him the tightest squeeze he could muster. " if i'm to die, i will do what i can from the other side. death doesn't scare me, i'm born of grief and strife. to die is to return to my father and my mother, when i'm wanted and the time is right is when i will pass over. okay? "

he rubs forest's back, the man was so much like sunlight that he was impossible to catch or to know what it needed. the only truth was that he spun himself endlessly and if not careful, one day he would combust. " c'mon, just relax. we have no reason to mourn what hasn't happened, friend. we are alive, let's celebrate that. "
